PSP - Image 1Don't let the name fool you, guys. While the SNES9xTYL SNES emulator for the PSP is indeed going to be updated courtesy of homebrew coder Yoyofr, this particular variant was created by Japanese developer Ruka, whom the readers may recognize for creating the NesterJ emulator.

We can't really say what's new in this Beta release due to a lack of a proper changelog (the README's in Japanese), although other people online have been giving mixed reports.

On one hand, it was reported that games like Super Mario World, Mario RPG, and Donkey Kong Country appear to be running smoothly, if not faster, on version ++ Beta. On the other hand, some testers noted that games like StarFox and Starfox 2 didn't appear to work at all, and that some games ran as they did in version 0.4.2.ME.

The file bundle is available below, although in light of the mixed reactions the app's been getting so far, we strongly advice would-be users to be careful. With that said, we hope the guys enjoy the download. We'll let you know in case we pick up word on either Yoyofr or fruitval's latest additions to this highly-coveted emulator project.

Our thanks goes to palyons for giving us this hot tip!

UPDATE: Due to your comments, we re-checked the README file of SNES9xTYL++ (BETA). Apparently, Ruka didn't want the file to be re-distributed. And because the wishes of the developer comes first, we have removed the download link to the emulator. We thank you for pointing that out.

 » AWESOME new emu.

I've been using this for two days and my experiences have been nothing but positive. Chrono Trigger which once would really obviously slow down when entering and exiting battle is now super smooth (with AUTO frameskip on) and Earthbound is mind blowingly perfect.

This IS worth the download.

The QJ article does not mention the fact that the developer Ruka has over 30 versions of this emulator on his website and also doesn't mention which one they are posting (I'm using 32, the most recent). If someone would maybe like to compare results with a couple different builds of it it might be really helpful.

I just did a checksum on the version available here and it matches version 32 on that site.

Surprising that no one noticed Ruka's work before.

It's great, the only complaint I have is the number of frames being drawn in the top left corner. I can't get rid of it.

   by Byte (Unregistered) - 2007-05-13
 » Do not re-distribute

From the readme included with the beta builds:

**This version is private build Version! Re-distribution isn't!**

It should be obvious this means that Ruka requests the ++ beta builds not to be re-distributed (his english is still better than my japanese).

How did you get SMRPG to work full speed in battle? I got the game to run great, but it slows down to unplayable once more than 3 characters are on the screen, or it enters battle.

Great emulator btw.

is that even what i need to be doing to get this to run? I've tried copying and pasting the eboot over my old SNES 9x 0.0.42 ME eboot. It freezes :

Don't copy and paste it over the old one. Delete the old SNES9xTYL folder and cut and paste the new one into GAME150. Or just keep them both on your memory stick at the same time.

   Re: Demonsweat (Unregistered) - 2007-05-14

Basically, you just need to switch from Frameskip:0 to Auto Frameskip. Most games run fine with it on.

   Re: Demonsweat (Unregistered) - 2007-05-14
 » Updated speeds hack file

Also, it helps if you use an updated snesadvance.dat file. The one included in the last SNES9xTYL was over a year old. Go here to download a recent one:

http://boards.pocketheaven.com/viewtopic.php?t+3366

Download and put that in a folder named DATA in the emulator folder.

 » hey

I have 2.8 firmware and im using e-loader, first I tried replacing the old eboot in the snestyl emulator with the number 32 build and after the emulator acting like if it's gonna run the screen turns black. Then I tried removing the Snes tyl folder and putiing the new eboot in the game folder inside a homebrew folder (so the e-boot can be reconized) but after trying to run it the same thing happens. Help?

"Ruka didn't want the file to be re-distributed. And because the wishes of the developer comes first, we have removed the download link to the emulator. We thank you for pointing that out"

QJ.net, you *****s. Where the ***** am I supposed to download it now? A Google translation of that *****ty web page is all I have to work with. And I can't find where the hell to download it from that *****ty, slow ass Japanese web server.

***** you Ruka, maybe if your site wasn't a poorly designed piece of ***** you would deserve the right to not have your emulator hosted somewhere else. But as it stands, I fully support the re-posting of this emulator because I can't wade through that messy web page to find it.

 » nice update

emulation is a bit better in some aspects, but the menus tend to have problems. I could deal. This version also seems to leave 2 to 3 numbers in the top left corner of the screen which don't seem to be removable. I'm sticking with the old 4.2 for now

   by Unregistered_Coward (Unregistered) - 2007-05-14
 » An improvement

The sound bug from loading states seems to have gone in my testing so far. For anyone who thinks there is no performance increase with this version I recommend you try games with 0 frame skip and maybe you will see. Hell I even have Vsync enabled for some games and this is known to cause slow down. I also have an up to date snesadvance.dat.
