If you were able to play Sierra Entertainment's SWAT series on the PC, you can't deny the fact that it recreates a lot of great action our armored boys in blue go through whenever they go on a raid. In an interview conducted by IGN with the game series' consultant, ex-SWAT member Ken Thatcher talks about some the changes in the new SWAT game, SWAT: Target Liberty for the PSP.One of the most obvious changes, of course, is the handheld version of the game will be a third-person shooter rather than the standard FPS that SWAT 4 follows. Ken Thatcher fills in the same role he had in creating the previous SWAT games, where he tries to make the operator's movement as authentic as possible. In terms of the realism the weapons have in the game, Thatcher says that they were trying to get a good balance from the game's arsenal with real life weapons so it wouldn't look like every bad guy could be taken down with just one shot. He also discussed the fact that bullet penetration for SWAT: Target Liberty won't be focused on as much as the PC version. So if you think you can snipe terrorists behind wooden walls like before, then think again. Because of the high amount of realism the game takes from real-life SWAT experiences and operations, there were some concerns expressed whether or not criminals will learn SWAT tactics from the information used in the game. Thatcher explained that this wasn't that big a deal, saying: We are always concerned about how video games influences our fans but in this case SWAT: Target Liberty is very much inspired and incorporates the everyday roles of what SWAT officers are trained to do. The game in no way provides enough detailed tactics to train an untrained person. However, we do try to give some insight into the real life training process through the bonus videos included with the game. SWAT: Target Liberty will be hitting stores this October 16 exclusively for the PSP. |

Sierra Entertainment has revealed new videos for SWAT: Target Liberty, featuring authentic weapons you'll be taking baddies down with and snippets of the game's mission briefings. After watching the trailers, we'll have to say SWAT: Target Liberty for the Sony PlayStation Portable is locked and loaded with all the SWAT action you'll ever need.
Like other SWAT games, there's a plethora of weapons to choose from. The Benelli M4 Super90, Sig SG552 Commando, and other sweet firearms are present to make the gun savvy swoon. We see them being used a lot, while keeping tactical squad-based elements intact. The Mission Briefing trailer gives us a glimpse at how missions roll in SWAT: Target Liberty. Objectives are laid out, and you'll find out which ones you nailed when the operation is over. Instead of more teasing, we'll just leave you with the video below.

Very intense and deliberate gameplay headed for you in this E3 video update of SWAT: Target Liberty for the PSP. We get you the skinny on what's new with the tactical squad-based game that's all about intimidation.
In the first video, Stronghold infiltration, we get to see the squad in action as they infiltrate deep into enemy territory - and from the looks of things, it seems that controls are quite intuitive, as we see all three squad members working in unison with no messy menus popping up. Graphics are smooth, detailed, and very sharp. We also get to hear the squad's colorful vocabulary in terms of persuading potential hostiles and civilians to surrender. The second video shows more of the same gameplay, as well as a very well-animated breaching of a secured door by way of two shots from a shotgun rifle, and a well-aimed mule kick. It's to note that your squad members talk and chat with you throughout the mission when they're not shouting the usual profanity - it lends realism to the game, as well as a sense of tension. Enough spoilers from us, enjoy the videos. |

Still remember the last trailer released for SWAT: Target Liberty? Well, with the E3 Media & Business Summit around the corner, Sierra Entertainment just released a rewound and remixed version of it just for the event. The new trailer practically features new sceneries and situations you can get into, with the same SWAT 4 antics on a top-down, squad-based tactical level.
3G Studios is probably planning a title showcasing of the game next week, although official announcements are scarce, and none have identified SWAT: Target Liberty as listed in Sierra's or Vivendi SA is a video game developer; formerly known as Vivendi Universal">Vivendi's feature lineup. The game is slowly edging its way to release this fall, probably by the start of Q4 2007. |

In the acronym "SWAT", tactics is probably the most important part (special weapons are fun, too, but that's beside the point) so they can take down the suspects efficiently. In SWAT: Target Liberty, team coordination is just what players need - especially when you're up against smarter AI.
We have the first trailer for SWAT: Target Liberty for the PlayStation Portable. You've seen the gameplay montage and the interview with the dev, now it's time to see the trailer. It feels a lot like a police TV show like "Cops", then we realized that the video game's script was written by Scott Rosenbaum (The Shield) so that was probably intended. SWAT: Target Liberty from Sierra definitely shows promise. We'll have to wait a number of months before its fall release. So while waiting, might as well check out the video. Enjoy! |

Coming this fall from Sierra Entertainment and Vivendi Games is SWAT: Target Liberty, the first PSP entry in the popular tactical shooter series. Firing Squad recently had a chat with the game's producer Paul Pawlicki to get some inside info on the game.
SWAT: Target Liberty is a shooter, so of course it has to have an impressive array of guns. "No need to worry about firepower," said Pawlicki. "SWAT: Target Liberty has plenty of it." Sierra lucked out on getting 3G Studios, who had physical access to each of the weapons used in the game, as a developer. Pawlicki noted that 3G's authentic representations add "a really nice touch" to SWAT: Target Liberty. Alright, so the guns look real, but what weapons will the players have access to? "Players will get to select from authentic SWAT weapons, like the SIG's SG 551-SWAT, a gas-operated weapon conceived specifically for Special Forces and elite units," said Pawlicki. "There's also the SSG 300, FN303, Benelli M2 and tactical grenades to choose from but as a player progresses through the game's unlockable weapons are made available including the FnH P90 and the Benelli M4 Super 90 to name a few." As for multiplayer, 3G has designed a random level generator to keep up to four players on their toes in the game's head to head multiplayer mode. SWAT: Target Liberty's AI also look impressive, with the inclusion of a morale system for the enemies. "Take too long in a firefight and they will begin to flank you and become less likely to give up," Pawlicki explained. "If you take out a few of men out then you will see them retreat and start to give up more easily."
Pawlicki also assured shooter fans that SWAT: Target Liberty is right on track for its fall release. There's currently nothing in development at the moment, but Pawlicki said that "could easily make the leap from PC to next-gen consoles and provide a fun, tactical shooter experience unlike any other game out there." |

We have a good reason to believe that Sierra Entertainment's SWAT: Target Liberty is going to be an exciting title, and there are some good reasons for this. First, in case you don't know, 29-year Los Angeles S.W.A.T. veteran Ken Thatcher has been enlisted as the video game's consultant to make sure that all combat scenes will be as real as possible. Then, the story behind this title was written by Scott Rosenbaum, the man behind the TV series "The Shield".
SWAT: Target Liberty actually takes place in New York City and a part of the players' mission is to thwart several international terrorist threats. In terms of gameplay, Target Liberty has an ad-hoc multiplayer system that allows various game modes. "Sierra Entertainment has a rich history of creating SWAT games that are immersive and full of the intense action and we don't intend to disappoint with this upcoming version for the PSP system," said Cindy Cook, chief strategy and marketing officer for Vivendi Games. SWAT: Target Liberty is scheduled to be released Fall 2007. If you want to know more, the video below is actually a gameplay montage of the title. |

The video embed above shows Radical Entertainment producer Paul Pawlicki delving into the details on their tactical shooter title for the PSP, SWAT: Target Liberty. He basically talks about a lot of interesting stuff about SWAT, such as why they chose to port this PC original onto Sony's PSP, and what are the new stuff that PSP gamers may expect from this version. For one, there will be 12 missions for you to engage in here, as well as some new scenarios such as hostage rescue. Deviating also from the previous SWAT versions where there are four playable characters, SWAT: Target Liberty for the PSP will have only two playable characters. But, the multiplayer mode can host up to four players. Anyhow, if you wanna know more about what else is in store for you here, just check out the vid below. SWAT: Target Liberty is set to come out this Fall. |
