Tri-Ace's Star Ocean is slated to be remade for the PSP according to scans from Famitsu - Image 1Probably because it's the "in" thing, remakes seem to be making such a big impact onto the new generation of handhelds nowadays. The Final Fantasy series has already made their much awaited comeback for the Nintendo DS with Final Fantasy III. Now, another old-school RPG series steps onto the PSP handheld with upgraded cinematics, voice acting and much more.

Star Ocean is set to receive a facelift when it finally upgrades itself onto the PSP platform. Scans from Famitsu have confirmed that the first two games of the Star Ocean series will have all new cinematics and redrawn character art, as well as voice overs and whole dialogues written into the new games. Star Ocean First Departure will follow the story of Ratix from the original Star Ocean released on the Super Famicom, while Star Ocean Second Evolution will be based on Star Ocean: The Second Story (PS2) with Claude as the hero.

Old players will be able to relive the adventures of Ratix and Claude in their respective Star Ocean games, while new players can acquaint themselves with the humble beginnings of this engrossing RPG series. Tri-ace, the developers, want more than creating a remake for the games. They want to make players feel like they're going through completely new games.

People will have to wait a while for the these new incarnations to hit the shelves as they are still in development and so far have a TBA release schedule slapped on them. When they do come out, however, they'll definitely be games that hardcore RPG gamers will want to look into. So until then just stay tuned for any more updates we may have on them.

Second Story was a PS1 game, might wanna fix that. A great game at that too. Rena looks... different, I don't mind it though.

Never played much of 1 so that'll be something to look forward to, they better come out in English!

Star Ocean 1 pretty cool, I hope they fix the music to be slightly more uplifting instead of lulling though. I really hope they have enough sense to release both of these stateside.

I knew they would come out with a remake sooner or later. The sound in the PS1 was pretty bad :( but still a very fun game.

SCEA seems to have this problem allowing RPG remakes outside of the mega sellers and the unreleased so Second Evolution may take a little bit of divine intervention but First Departure will probably get released.

i like tri ace games!
i finished the star ocean 2nd story for ps1
but the screens above is star ocean (original not 2nd)
and will be using the graphics style of 2nd story, it was only available in japan and was for the super famicom (snes for you non japanese).
it only playable in english via emulator and english patch.
i wonder why they did not go for the engine of "star ocean 3 Till the end of time" which is way way better.
this a great game and i will not miss this.
hope they remake the whole series and or just port the second and third version even without enhancement on PSP.
