Killzone 2 - Image 1

Former Producer of Killzone: Liberation and now Test Lead/QA Manager for Guerilla Games Sebastian Downie recently sat down with website Killzone Unit in an interview about the success of Killzone on both handheld and console, and what the PS3 sequel to the PlayStation 2 FPS is all about. We give you the skinny on all things Killzone.

In the interview, Sebastian Downie talks about the difference between Killzone for the PSP and Killzone for the PS2 - one major difference being that the switch from first person to an isometric gameplay view. He explains that the change was necessary to give the game a pick-up-and-play aspect, for those of us who pull out our handhelds during daily commute or while going number two. He also points out that the camera angle gave players a peek of what lies beyond their characters, which in turn allows them to plan ahead in terms of strategy.

When asked if players should look forward to more downloadable patches and content for Liberation, Sebastian replied with a firm no, stating the difficulty of a company running a development team to make free patches month after month - it would drain the company as a whole. Another reason is that the whole team is now preoccupied with developing a PS3 game, there wouldn't be enough manpower to go around.

Finally, when pressed for more info about Killzone for the PS3, Sebastian Downie merely restated what we all already know: that it's going to be an FPS, and there's going to be a Public Beta later in the year. Other than that, he kept mum, and we can't blame him - Killzone 3 for the PS3 is definitely going to be big.

Updates as we get them. In the meantime, you can check out the full interview at the read link below.

I would just like to point out that you made a mistake. Its actually Killzone 2 that is coming out for the PS3, not Killzone 3.

Killzone 3 is a looonnngg way away.

How bout they fix the existing patch? There is definetly a need for improvements online, from the horrible lag to adding more options for the host (please, i need a vote out/boot out button! Im tired exiting then reentering a room cause of some gay ass noobs!!!)

Seeing as through he didnt really have much to say this might rule out Killzone 2 on june 11th but then again him saying nothing might also mean it is the "big" suprise on june 11th. I put big in quotes because I thinks its going to be something stupid.

 » I dont own a Playstation 3 but

I can say that this game is probaly going to be what is going to get a lot of its sales from. Gears of War is fun but im bored of it and the story mode is very short. I unlocked all of the achievements and played online about 100x. If this game is as good as it looks then I will buy a PS3.

yea killzone will be awesome as hell, but i disagree with you about gears of war, you probably suck

» .......I unlocked all achievements....get on my level yayo

Yo you aint unlock all the achievements I will rape u in gears of war with a damn smoke grenade. 4 vs 4 gets boring no matter what they do. Its all about wars n sh/t people want to have wars online. Im talkin about 20 vs 20 or more not some wack weak ass 4 vs 4 bs on some small ass map. One day when your playing killzone2 and your going to look at gears and say that 4 vs 4 ***** was weak as fu/k killzone2 is the real *****. watch......Unless in gears of war 2 they have like 20 vs 20 but it would only be possible on the ps3

"Im talkin about 20 vs 20 or more not some wack weak ass 4 vs 4"

If you can't see the difference between the two games and understand why there's a difference with the number of players online, then you're dumb.

So tell me, why aren't ALL PS3 games online offering 20 vs 20? Think about it.

"Unless in gears of war 2 they have like 20 vs 20 but it would only be possible on the ps3"

Last gen, Black Hawk Down on the OLD XBox supported 50 players online (compared to just 32 on the PS2). That's right, 50 on XBL.

So the number of players supported depends on MANY factors, and it's not something to brag about or attack a console for when you're clueless to the reasons why.

Resistance could perform equally well on the 360, and Gears of War on the PS3 would also be limited to 4 vs 4 (since the game is optimised for close combat action, hence smaller maps and less players in a richly detailed environment).

KZ2 will PWN Halo and all the other suckers out there.

 » Uh huh

Well since we haven't actually seen Killzone for the PS3 yet (besides a CGI trailer), the only sucker here is you. :P

   Re: Dodo - 2007-06-09
 » ..

A close source of mine in the who has seen the game's tech demo behind-doors tells me it looks just as good as the trailer. If the finished product looks even 80% good as that trailer, it still kicks Halo's butt. So the sucker is you.

Re: MS Squared (Unregistered) - 2007-06-09
 » :D

A close source of yours? Oh, you mean little Jonny from next door! LOL!

Killzone was seen behind closed doors a few months back, and the feedback from those who saw it was that whilst it looked very good (with destructable environments), it was no better than many other forthcoming next-gen titles coming the 360 and PS3. No-one reported it as being something REALLY special.

And even if it looks as close to the trailer as you hope, it still wouldn't "kick Halo's butt" unless it had the GAMEPLAY to match. You know, g-a-m-e-p-l-a-y, that little detail which doesn't seem to matter to gamers like you who type with one shaky hand whilst staring at pretty screenshots of games. :P

So no, Killzone doesn't kick ANY GAME'S BUTT (PS3 or 360) until it's out there and proves itself to be worthy of such praise and rewards gamers like you for your blind unquestioning loyalty.

They should just release a map creator and then the PSP community will keep the game alive for ever!!
