Silent hillNot a few gamers have learned to love the videogame Silent Hill. Not surprisingly, Hollywood tried to grab a bit of the spotlight by making a movie based from it. Well, we loved it as well... loved to forget we ever watched it (and wasted good money on it), that is. If you're one of the rare ones who find this flick worthy enough of having UMD, DVD and Blu-ray copies of it, you're in luck (or are you?). That's because come August 22, Silent Hill will be hitting stores in UMD, DVD and Blu-ray formats.

Silent Hill, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (that explains why it made it to Blu-ray and UMD), follows the story of a mother (Radha Mitchell; perhaps the only good thing that happened to that movie) who lost her daughter in a mystery-riddled town. In her mission to find her child, she encounters hell and all the creatures that goes with that dreadful place. The film itself will be presented in anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround track.

If you're the masochistic type, prepare to shell out $28.95 and $38.95 for DVD and Blu-ray copies respectively. Of course, the Blu-ray copy costs higher - there's a price to pay for higher features you know (same reason why PS3 is priced that much). No word regarding the price for UMD formats were mentioned, but in cases like this, would it have bothered you if there is?

 » Ugh.

I just watched that movie a little while ago and I thought it was terribe. There were very few edge-of-your-seat moments (like two) and by the end when the girl was telling the story I just wanted her to shut up. Very drawn-out.

 » Hollywood? I don't think so!

Gans, the director of Silent Hill, is a HUGE fan of the games. This is very obvious after reading and watching interviews he's done regarding the movie. He has wanted to make a movie since playing the original classic on the PS one. He has stated time and time again that his goal was to make a film that pays respect to the Silent Hill universe and it's legion of fans. I think he hit the nail on the head on both counts.

The movie wasn't horribly dumbed down like some other videogame-based movies that have to rely on sex symbols, big guns, and explosions to sell. This movie has the least hollywood bull***** out of all the videogame movies I've seen.

Anyway, I can't wait to get my PS3 so that I can play the Blu-ray version of the movie on it!

 » hard to understand

I didn't undestand the story, some critics also didn't undestand it, if a critic doesn't understand a movie story t hen there must be something wrong.
