PSP-3000: Piano Black, White, Silver - Image 1

Eeny-meeny-minee-mo. Think you can pick out which of these are PSP Slims and which are PSP Brites? Following the strawberry comparison photos we found the other week, we now have a whole bulk load of side-by-side shots of the PSP-3000 and PSP-2000 from Famitsu today.

As you may all know, the PSP-3000 is everything the Slim is (in terms of physical dimensions), but with A) a brighter/sharper screen due to its higher contrast ratio, and B) a microphone at the bottom center of the face. After seeing more comparison photos though, we can now add more differences to the list:

C) the PSP-3000 has rounder/smoother edges on the left and right sides of the PSP unit,
D) the back has a thinner circle circumscribing the PSP logo, and
E) as already seen in the previous strawberry shot, the switching of the Sony logo from the right side of the screen to the left

Say hello to the future of the PSP! With exception of the first photo below, all images have the PSP-3000 on top, PSP-2000 below. Look at those jellybeans! And to borrow the description from Famtisu, human skin now actually looks "healthier". Click the thumbs for an enlarged view (make sure the page has full loaded first though)!

The following pics (from GameWatch) also show the top, bottom, and side comparisons of the Ceramic White and Ice Silver models for the PSP-3000 and -2000, as well as a screen comparison (from ITmedia) of what the two models look like in the dark:

 » yea, better screen?

If you see, the screen only shows differences in the pictures, nothing in the LocoRoco game.

 » you must be blind

You can tell on LocoRoco as well. All the colors are more vibrant and you can tell just by looking at the letters.

Anyways. I've noticed this a long time ago when playing my PSP Phat on my PC with RemoteJoy. It shows you more of the color rather than the like the Phat being a shade or two lighter.

"If you see, the screen only shows differences in the pictures, nothing in the LocoRoco game."

So, what, are you implying that it's only a better screen when they program it to be?

AMAZING, Sony has overcome the limitations of mere physics!!

   Re: core2kid18 - 2008-09-02
 » true that, sorry

I completely missed the details of the pictures, i was only looking at the LOCO ROCO logo.

» is it me or is Sony...

ripping customers? the Slim hasn't even been out for a year or so, and they already released a MUCH better psp? this is supposed to be the improvments made on the Fat psp. does that mean they couldn't do it last year for the same price? errr..or is it because of Pandora and the "new features" are just a facade? hmmm...

   Re: akadewboy - 2008-09-02
 » .

Personally the 'new' features aren't that big a deal to me. It will be homebrew proof for a long time, so anyone who has a phat or slim should be happy cause they can still play homebrew.

 » Go Us Fattys!

Personaly i think the fat is the best PSP released. If it wasnt for the limited ram it would be perfect.

I couldn't agree more!

This is gay. Its like buying a new slim with a built in accessory. They really know how to get people to upgrade.

» THIS ONE BELONGS TO ME!!!!

I am DEFINATELY going to get this Ice Silver PSP-3000...

Should be a GREAT upgrade from PSP-1000 Black.

   Re: papajag - 2008-09-02
 » I agree

I MIGHT not hack this one and just use it to play Monster Hunter 2nd G online when released in America...it all depends if the MHP2G online can read if u r using CFW

I think I'll get a silver one too!

 » the biggest question

will Pandora work for this PSP?

   by DeathAngel666 - 2008-09-02
 » Wait Everyone!

I suggest everyone should wait until a developer like DAX gets ahold of one so he can figure out if its CFW compatible. So you dont have a useless lump of sony. Thats my opinion anyways.

   Re: Silver-Tiger - 2008-09-03
 » ...

it looks like the "old" batteries can be still used. If Pandora works is another question, though.

   Re: DeathAngel666 - 2008-09-04
 » Nah. I doubt It.

The reason why there is barely a new feature is probably because they put all there money into producing pandora proof software and hardware
   by pspablo - 2008-09-02
 » Only game pic?

Seriously. If the brightness difference is only noticeable in PICTURES, then don't count in for this model...

Ok, so the girl is not so pale and the apples are more red... But the locoroco logo stays almost the same.

Show me some Patapon pictures (very colorful game btw) and then we'll talk

A screen that is 5% more bright? OMG, I'm so gonna fork out 300 bucks for it!!!

Is it just me or does the PSPs look cheaper and cheaper for every generation?

I mean honestly, the PSP-3000 looks a LOT like that cheap PSP ripoff that floated around on youtube a few months after the PSP phat release...
