great job
well your almost there, you'll soon be able to release this as a homebrew game! when you have some way of restarting it, without going to xmb and back.
no seriously, this is a cool little game, nice apt graphics, but this should have really been your first release.
good luck with it!
can you include a difficulty level when the menu is put in??
and maybe a maze/walled version??
1st
lol@rc94 +)
always with that 1st post eh? +)
you really show us how to make a quality game
make a sort of demo with no lives and that makes no sense with more affort putten in the graphics and then slowly building up your code till you get great quality games... btw have you actually made this to look like flow or was it pure coinceddince...anyhow great jow dude
does this work on 2.71 SE-C?
Yes it works, but I have problem with the snake disapearing and just leaving the background nett visible ... is this a bugg MrMr[iCE]?
then perhaps its not compatible on 2.71se, you think??
works fine on 1.5.... hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
ya it is a bug...and its one of those "cant catch me" kind of bugs that is just really difficult to find...im still trying tho.
This has happened to me quite a few times, in fact, i think i had one build that would bug out exclusively. Unfortunately i deleted it.
However, it seems to happen more when it is patched with PatchSFO, though i'm not sure how much this changes it.
It earlier builds it could be chalked up to the snake running off screen while you looked away as it loaded, but that doesn't hold much weight in this build.
For me, the snake would be gone, but the game would continue as if nothing was different, ie. the food will disappear and move around and whatnot, but no snake was visible.
Hanscats..i had that problem the first time i opened the last version released...i exited and went back in and it worked fine. :)
MrMr[iCE] just want to say you are truely showing the love of homebrew! All these 'requested features' non stop updates, and beautiful work!
YOU DA MAN HOMER...I mean MrMr[iCE]
Keep up the good work!
too great the idea of playing it with the headphones !!
Hey man first let me congratulate you on your success of this AMAZING game.
This version is so close to perfection but there is a bug.
I'm on 2.71 SE-C and whilst playing the game the snake suddenly vanishes off the screen along with all the icons (lifes, score etc) a circle flashes (the same circle you get when you get a bonus thing) and everything goes.
It comes back after about 30 seconds but sometimes longer.
Its very random indeed.
I will play around with the settings on my psp to check its not just me.
I have reinstalled it again and again but no success yet.
OK back to the game.
Its almost perfect
All you need now is.
1. MENU :D
2. HIGH SCORES!!!!! (PLEASE!!!)
3. Possibly an option so you can change the color of the snake? - nothing major just maybe you could change the shade of it to red or yellow due to player preference, i think that'd be awesome. Dont go over board though keep it simple.
4. DO NOT have an option where you can change the speed. it'll make it more complicated for the scoring system and what not. The speed, physics, scoring system are perfect i wouldn't touch them.
5. Maybe make the bonuses load up a fraction faster? I find myself scrolling around waiting for a bonus sometimes. (not really that important but it would be nice :-) )
6Thats it!!!! Great game i cant wait for future releases
Good luck!!
i agree, definetly need to have the 'snake food' reappear a lot quicker, like as soon as you eat it? - nice game mrmrice
is your name mr m rice?
it happens on 1.5 or any other fw you people manage to run it on...its something to do with way psp caches stuff in memory, its just very difficult to pin down when theres so many things going on at the same time.
good suggestions - classic game looks great on the psp
this is a great game, love it, hope for updates :P
i get the same problem as chickentimes.Im am too running 2.71 SE-C please fix this :)
The graphics are stolen from a snake like game which was made by the guys at spore and stuff, basically he didn't make any of those good looking graphics and he stole the concept as well
And I suppose you have screenshots to prove it too. Let me save you the trouble:
http://rafb.net/paste/results/7xIdLb42.html
thats a portion of the code that sets up the shapes used for the snake head and body segments. As you can see, theres no images, its all built on the fly when the game starts.
Nice try buddy. Next?
Oh great MrMr[iCE], now he's definitely gonna steal your code now that you pasted it :P
hahah, nice Zing!
When you do update and have a MENU i think you should definently scrap the whole 3 lives thing...
Its ok for now because we have no menu and it would take ages to have to load up all the time.
But once you get a menu you might aswell just have one life because when i mostly hit myself i take off nearly all of my tail anyway and just start again.
Please just have one life!!! it'd be allot easier too.
I will happily email them the entire project, with all source and resources needed to build this project. send an email to sgalatis@gmail.com and its yours.
keep up the good work! I am looking forward to the updates with game menu, and high score keeping.
and any additional gameplay will be awesome.
MrMr[iCE I have a serious suggestion.
Ok this game is incredible.
ONE major problem is the scoring.
I'm on.... 2093283 x 36 and i still have 2 lives left.
I think you should keep the ratios but lower it down so "snake food" gives you 1 point for a small bonus and 9 points max a for big bonus.
Also i think you should scrap the "x23" its sorta confusing. Do the purple ones add to the "times x?"
Keep the colors, there great just make it simple and make the purple ones do what the same as the normal ones do.
Oh yeah i like the RED one which slows you down thats handy but keep it at that.
I also love the design. The big ones have 9 small dots around the circle and the small ones only have 1 small dot. Thats great just get rid of the damn Xtimes thing!
keep the purple color tho, thats funky
Thanks so much if you can pull this off i think alot of users will appreciate it.
Especially if people want to compete there not going to remember 10 figures, it'd be so much easier to just say "my top score is 340" rather then "my top score is.... wait let me check, 203849039x93.
I really hope you see this
Thanks again for a great game!
oh yeah i agree with the guy above about the 3lives thing.
i get the same problem as chickentimes.Im am too running 2.71 SE-C please fix this :).Great game though good job

This homebrew is truley amazing, one of the best "Home Made" homebrew games on the psp since squarez. Keep it up, i am a big fan so far.
P.S
I know there are other good homebrew games ;) .
I'm using this on 2.71SE-C and it works brilliantly, and I still love the little sounds lmao, it's a brilliant and very addictive game, keep up the great work MrMR[ICE]
Your bug just popped up that you mentioned in the previous release, the screen when blank, but it was after i got so long, then it came back on again and I was smaller and lost a life, so I obviously ate my tale.
So, I see a lot of suggestions about not having a life count and i'm really wondering why people are saying this. Think about it, if you're score is 1,000,000,000x93 or some insane number - obviously the game isn't quite hard enough now is it? That's where I think levels will come in handy in future releases - were you can feel accomplished by getting so far and not like a fool just trying to dodge 90% of the field because your tail is wrapped up and doesn't even move anymore. It's a great game - the evolution of the game is proof that this is a homebrew to keep and keep watching for.
Suggestions for future additions:
1. Obviously a menu system
2. Levels with increasing difficulty
3. The often suggested "maze" type levels
4. Background music (possibly linked to how well the player is doing (faster the snake, faster the music)
5. objects with a negative effect - speed up, lose multiplier, lose tail segments and points.
6. a standby mode - whenever I put the psp into standby it crashes the game - which sucks because i'm really used to putting it on standby when someone starts talking to me, etc.
7. When the game is paused I think that your snake and the position of food objects should disapear - currently the pause feature can help a player 'cheat' into figuring out the best path to take thus countering the point of the snake speeding up.
THIS IS THE BEST GAME =) NICE JOB.
It needs more food, im addicted to highspeed games, and this is moving pretty slow (mind you that i hate playing snake but i like this game, and i just started playing this one today).
i really like the way that the boundary is set up (i read it just got fixed), thats perfect, but the bakground is too dull, i can understand that an overzealous background detracts attention from the snake (good looking snake too), but something has to be done. Maybe in the future there will be a plugin background that is animated (who knows, snakes on water where the snake constantly leaves a ripple effect, but my programing skills are garbage, itll stay a suggestion)
rather than having 4 difficulties or more, why not be inovative and have "fat snakes' and "little snakes" ?
i can think of more crap, but i'll leave it at that
great game, best in a long while
is everyone here comenting on this release or an older one???
because some of you guys sound like your talking about the older one where you CAN go off screen, and if you didn't steer the snake back it would appear to have disapeared.... dumbasses!
1.Add a menu
2. fix the bug for 2.71 SE users
3.Add different levels like 1-10.The higher the level the faster the snake and higher score.
4.Remove the x34 part by the score
5.Make the snake colors customizable
6.Have the option to change the background. Not too many fancy backgrounds of course. So there is no distraction.
7.A little music not too much so the file size will be under 15mb
8.Add high scores
9.Let us be able to use the L & R shoulder buttons, d-pad,analog stick,or the remote for the controls.
10.Allow us to use our own mp3's in the game.Like load the music from the psp/music directory. (if possible)
Now remember these are all just suggestions that will make the game better to most people. If they are even possible.Well goodluck this is an awsome game hope to see great things from this :)
Will this work on male pattern baldness?
We are all commenting on this version dumbass. If we were talking about an older one we would comment there not here.Do you have 2.71 SE? if not then shut the f4k up because there is a bug for 2.71 SE users noob
It would also be sweat if by pressing [X] you can go into like a fast mode, and then back to normal when released
I often miss the food by a couple pixels, opening up the hit zone on the snakes head would fix this
i just thought more about "fat snake" and "little snake", itd be sweet to have segments of the snake acting that way based on food, that way youd have a big section that will also pose as an obsticle
im going to try to not make any more, but when i see that the ppl making it might read, i cant help my self... well, its all for the better ain't it?
good work n-e ways
The one about the snake speeding up when you press X is a great idea.
Especially for the start of the game where it can get a bit slow.
If you do decide to do this make sure its not just "hit x go faster hit x again slow down"
make it so when you hold X you speed up then you let go to slow down.
The missing the food by a couple of pixels is also a common problem i get, open up the hit zone just a tad, not to much though.
First off I think your game is awesome which is very rare for homebrew games (emulators not included) and I can't wait for your next release.
If you want some more suggestions then here's my list:
Already requested:
*Fix the bug
*Add levels
*Menu
My own ideas:
*Traditional steering (left, right, up, down), as an option in the menu
*Saving, possibly autosave at the end of each level
I don't know if this can help with the bug issue or not but I will post it anyway.
My Setup:
PSP w/ 2.71 SE-B''
32mb Sony MemStick
Standard XMB, No Shell or anything else.
When I played the game the first time I had the objects on the screen disappear 4 different times before I died. They seemed to only disappear when you have just eaten something and it is ready to load another (hence the circle artifact that appears - obviously the next piece of food appearing). Then I launched the game again, played through perfectly. Launched again, good. Launched again, good. Launched again, good.
For some reason, it only happened in the first run. I have yet to play it longer but I thought that maybe some input would help with the discovery of where the bug lies.
i just remembered that ir shell lets you play music during some applications, this is one of em!
you guys are hammering me :)
but have no fear...menu system is almost done.
what is done and ready for next release:
the 'zone' for detecting when snake eats a food item has been increased.
X button will give you a speed boost, and it scales with the snake as it gains more speed.
food items show up faster after last one was eaten
3 lives system will stay...because now theres a 1up system in place. youll see a value next to the life indicators showing score you need to get next 1pu. First 1up is fixed at 1 million..all 1ups after that will be based on how high the bonus multiplier is...so the higher you get that xNNN number, the more points you need to get to get another 1up...so be prepared.
red powerups are tweaked too. before they would just drop snake back to lowest speed..not so anymore..they take a fixed amount off now.
btw: the way scoring works now, theres a bonus multiplier that increases by 1 every 4 new segments. You can also increase the multiplier with the blue food items, from +1 to +8. you lose 1 multiplier point if you miss a food item. its possible to have a 0 multiplier, meaning no points until you grow another 4 segs or grab a blue food item. new segments add to the score with this formula: score += (numsegs * 21) * multiplier. so obviously having more segments will boost your score like mad.
thanks for listening to the people!
your doing a great at this, keep up the good work
im really addicted to this game.

No, that's not me mocking MrMr[iCE]'s release, that's what he actually calls this quick update to his homebrew game
