While their identities are pretty elusive, you have to admit, the Japanese developers behind Snes9xTYLsmcm are doing good work. The team recently released a new version of their homebrew application, labelled Test 5 27/5/08.This application, in case you're asking, is an SNES emulator for the Sony PlayStation Portable. Based on the information we've gathered, this new test build carries wireless ad-hoc support and improved overall performance. Some of the users over at DCEmu noted that games like Mario Kart run well on frameskip 1, while a bug in Final Fantasy 2 was also fixed. That said, we remind the readers that this new release is labeled as a test build, meaning that you'll want to keep on the lookout for any possible bugs. Enjoy the download, and be sure to visit us again in case we receive word regarding any possible updates. Download: Snes9xTYLsmcm Test 5 27/05/08 |

» Does it still have this bug?
The last one had the bug where the home button wouldn't work if you were on anything other than Accelerated or Approx + Accel.
Did they fix this bug or is it still there? I don't care that you can change it within the emulation to get home to work. I want to know if the overall bug is fixed.

But I figured out a workaround. Define "menu" to "start+select" and it'll load up no matter what rendering engine you're using. For some reason, no other key binding works besides "start+select"...

My key is set to HOME
and I use accelerated+accurate soft.

» that's not it
With accelerated, it works fine. Using *just* accurate or approx, home key doesn't work. Must be binded to start+select. A few games are faster with acceleration off, F-Zero is one of them.

» Its an old bug, which was in the PHAT version of the software
I hope the next version atleast comes with sleep mode, I don't care about waste of battery life, I like to continue my games, when I turn my PSP on, thats why sleep mode was created.
Sleep mode is in almost every single PSP emulator except for some of the GOOD SNES emulators.
When will sleep mode be in? NO THATS NOT A WASTE OF PROGRAMING, I FIND IT USEFUL!
Many people find it useful, plus you really just have to push the frameskip up a little for this to work.
I know speed is everything to you guys.
Sleep mode has its usefulness, even you guys have to admit that.

If you like the occasion freeze and like playing most games at below full speed. I've had Zelda freeze on me three times which made me stop playing it on the PSP. Most games don't run at full speed either and some still don't run, so improvements are always welcome.

Just tested a few games. Power Rangers: Fighting Edition runs alright on I believe 3 or 4 frameskips. Its still slow in the beggining when choosing Thunder Megazord and Whitetiger Zord; however, you can at least fight this time. :p And the X series runs a bit better on Auto (Even in the first levels of X2 and X3. Minor lag but, No more slow down !! XD). Thanks for all you guys do. Hopes to see future releases, as well as patch up work on Earthworm Jim 1 and 2.

» Getting better....!
Having played nearly 400 games on SnesTYL .42 I have to say this is an improvement and a step in the right direction. I don't read Japanese so the README is gibberish to me.
Don't forget to CHANGE THE CPU from the default 300Mhz to 333Mhz. It helps a bit. I also recommend changing the Sound from 44KHz to 22KHz.
Differences from 4.2TYL I've noticed:
The menu is much faster which takes a bit of getting used to. I like using the Home button to go to the menu. Overall an improvement.
Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage NOW WORKS without the annoying video glitches when he jumps.
Super Mario Kart is a bit faster.
The great Claymates game unfortunately still DOES NOT WORK :( Maybe next time...
Can anyone understand the readme.txt? Do they hope to achieve full speed on upcoming releases? Playing an FX chip game at full speed, 44.1Khz sound, 0 frameskip would be great :)

» StarFox is ALMOST playable...
An optimization would make this playable. As it is now I am seeing around 5-8fps @ 333MHz, 2 frameskip, 22KHz sound. Also getting StarFox 2 (final beta, english translation) working would be great.

» Anyone know how to customize the eboot?
When I use PSPBrew to add my own bg image/icon and music and start it up snestyl reports that it can't find the eboot on the memory card. When I browse for the folder it doesn't even show up anymore.
I am saving it as a 2.0> PBP and putting it in GAME380.
Any ideas?
thanks
