Getting pimped

Sega has signed an exclusive advertising deal with Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions to run a themed Sonic the Hedgehog viral (oh, Sonic, you poor hedgehog, you...) on Windows Live Messenger. The agreement is part of an integrated campaign to promote two new games, Sonic the Hedgehog on the Xbox 360, and Sonic Rivals on the PSP.

Amusing bit about this deal? We'll see ads for a Sony PSP game on a Microsoft service. Nothing groundbreaking, it's all business anyway. But it does lead one to imagine that some fanboys and their extreme loyalties will have a brain-breaking fit over this odd reality.

This is an example of those rare situations wherein press releases can possibly amuse you.

cmon, since the sonic adventure games on dreamcast the franchise has been going downhill. even those two games were sad. hopefully microsoft's quality assurance will redeem the iconic hedgehog. Mario made the 3d transition seamlessly, while sonic lost his rings and died.

Microsoft has clearly stated at a number of time that they have absolutely no intention of entering the handheld market in the near future. Therefore, Sony is of no threat to them in that market - why the hell not make money off the advertising. Microsoft is a buisness orientated solely around money - their care for their consumers conserns (or lack thereof) is a huge indicator of this. I say this is a victory for Microsoft.

Sonic has come a long way, but in a depressing way. I was a Sega Genesis kid and loved all the Sonic games (Sonic 3 & Knuckles is still the best). It just seems that after the death of the Dreamcast Sonic has failed to progress. It was cool to see games like Sonic Advance, going back to the 2D roots, but it was sad to see games like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Riders. Even the Sonic cartoon brought the Sonic down by getting rid of the old vioce actors. Looks like the blue hedgehog is ready to slow down.

i dont know what everyone is complaining about the only bad sonic game was sonic 3D blast, ive enjoyed the franchise through and through from the first time i picked up a sega controller i honestly think everyones expectations are way to high sonic wasnt just about speed it was also about exploration and yea S3&K is still one of the best in the series, but the new sonic the hedgehog is cool too, i even enjoyed the level design in shadow the hedgehog, and the character selection in heroes, riders did suck though it was more of a time killer. and for people complaining about characters, think about it Sonic the Hedgehog 2 had tails, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles introduced Knuckles and Mecha Sonic and Egg Robo, cd brought you Amy and Metal Sonic, Knuckles Chaotix gave the series Charmy, Vector, Espio, brought back mighty from Sega Sonic, and gave you Bomb and Heavy, the jap manual reads like an rpg and has always taken place on earth so not much has changed if ya dont like it dont play it
