When manufacturer GEAR4 first announced their speaker system earlier this year, it didn't cause a stir. It is probably more of a financial constraint rather than reservations about quality. To be quite frank, I've been dying to have one of those since August. Now that Christmas is just around the corner, I just might try to get one.

Anyway, it's hard not to pay attention to an accessory dubbed as SonicBoom. The system actually comes in with two speakers and a powerful sub-woofer; enough sound power to make you feel as if you're playing GTA in a full entertainment system. Aside from being compatible with the PSP, SonicBoom can also be used with almost any other MP3 players.

We mentioned "PSP compatible" and you may be wondering what exactly that means. Of course, it is a given that this can be used when playing music in your handhelds. But the fun doesn't stop there. Whenever you're playing games, you could actually use the two-metre-long cable connectors to play remotely. In other words, you could charge your PSP while playing.

SonicBoom costs £49.99 or just US$ 98. The read link below would take you directly to the online retail store of GEAR4. But before you do, you might want to check out SonicBoom's other features for a while:
  • 2.4W per channel from 2 x speakers; and 9.6W from 1 x sub-woofer
  • ActiveBass 2.1 technology
  • Docking station
  • Multi-system compatibility
  • 2m 'FreeStyle' cable extenders
Hey, don't confuse this with one of those shameless-ads-masked-as-an-article post. This looks a good deal for me, but for any other regular joe, it may just be an overpriced paper weight. Whatever floats your boat my man.

Wouldn't mind having that for all the Family Guy episodes. : P

What I still don't understand is why people are spending $100 US on mini-audio systems when you can buy killer pc speakers with a real sub for the same price range - and then your neighbours can hear your Family Guy episodes too?

Why buy this over, say, a Creative sub and speakers?
