Ó

Arena Nikkei BPnet had some pictures of Sony's booth during CES 2007, in particular this little diorama of Memory Sticks through time.

Do your eyes deceive? Oh, just zoom in to the last part on the right. - Image 1

In case it's barely readable, that's 32 gigabytes of Memory Stick stuck there in 2009. This might conflict with the last time we saw a Memory Stick hitting 32GB, under the Sony/Sandisk Pro-HG Format, which had the Pro-HG format hitting the production lines this year. There is a difference, however.

It seems that the regular Pro DUO format will also hit 32GB, scheduled for 2009 (the last Memory Stick in the line doesn't look like it's stamped with "HG" in its name). Now before that, we'll see what looks like 16GB of Pro DUO memory storage next year (if all goes as planned). Parallel to this, the Pro-HG format will also take its place in the market, offering a high-density storage option for their Sony devices (It's quite conceivable that as the regular Pro DUO lineup packs in more and more bytes under the belt, the HG lineup will also grow along the same lines).

And with this (not to mention the nearby PS3 display), the boys at Arena Nikkei BPnet decided to play their own little PSP-next guessing game. They're predicting dedicated downloads for the PSP-next, phasing out UMD (and maybe even eschewing flashcarts) for the PlayStation Store. They're also predicting that expanded storage options for the PSP will translate to a bump up in the quality of downloadable videos.

In addition, if capacity increases, the high picture quality which minds PS3 and the personal computer also animated picture sale becomes possible. With CES demonstration of the new format of the PSP animated picture which increased bit rate to like DVD was done. Higher picture quality than MPEG-2 which is used with DVD MPEG-4 (H.264) is used in record of animated picture because, from, in the high picture quality which got near to hi-vision record of animated picture has become possible. If the new format the mass memory stick is used, also cheap animated picture transmission and rental become possible.

Excuse me, Mr. Jobs, but you were saying something about the PSP? You might want to take a rain check.

yes but ipods use harddisks, and if the psp would use a harddisc the battery life would be extremely low!

Only the ipod nanos use flash memory!

Also they have alot less hardware then psp's thats why they can use HDD's...

The PSP will be obsolete by 2010 when the 32GB sticks will actually be a reasonable price.
Pointless to even mention it in conjuction with the PSP, maybe a PSP2 by then, but seriously.

The psp will take longer than that to become obsolete remember there are many people supporting it not just sony. I mean come on psx, psp, snes, nes, on the go.

Sooner but it seems it will come in by the time I'm old and working everday. I wanted to get it now and enjoy it this year but oh well, who needs 3.85 cheap extra gigs anyways......I'm fine with two 4gigs.
