At the Playstation Business conference yesterday it was announced that Sony would be changing the price on the official Playstation Portable Development Kits. Development kits for the PSP typically cost $6,400, the equivalent of 750,000 yen. Now the development kits have been slashed in price, down to a cool $4,200 ( aka 500,000 yen). Sony hopes that the drop in price will lure more development houses and studios to take a chance and start making games for the handheld.

This is probably a good move on Sony's part. We can all agree that there have not been many new games being released for the system, however as we all know Sony has also had problems with "hackers" unlocking the PSP in order to "play games that they do not own". Hopefully this does not offset the flood of developers that Sony is hoping for. To date over 5,400 PSP development kits have been shipped to developers.

im tired of people *hinting* that psp has all these people using it to play games they dont own.....they make it seem like the psp is the only console/handheld
that has a "pirating" scene.....truth is most of every console and handhelds can be used to play pirated games.....from psx,ps2,xbox,gba and more too come....i dont like how the psp always get the brunt of all the finger pointing....EVERYBODY needs to stop pointin out the fact that psp has a "dark" side....cuz if its too offen talked about then developers will be more heistant....plus i love the psp and i dont want it to die or even get more worst firmware release just cuz people can't keep their mouth shut.

agree'd, never cared for the HW specs. Battery life is *****. But I could easily look past that if it ment axx to some portable classics.

Disappointed in the lack of a decent Mame to this day tho...

That difference in price is nothing to a game developer.
