The PlayStation group dodged the axe that fell on Sony a few days ago when it was announced that the mega corp will lay off 8,000 employees. The European division, at least, will not be part of the big scale down. Explains SCEE bigwig David Reeves: We're certainly not planning to cut back in personnel at all. Half of our personnel are in the development of the games, that's an investment. We're not scaling down at all. [...] To my knowledge, no one is cutting back on the R&D side of the projects we're working on now. Sony live and die on the innovative
projects they bring out. In our division we're still continuing to develop the products which we put in our mid-range plan six months ago, one year ago. Speaking of long-term plans, Reeves also talks about the PlayStation 4 - or the lack of it. Taking from the timespan between the releases of the PSOne, PS2, and PS3 (around five years between each release), some may assume that we can expect the PS4 to be released sometime in 2010, but Reeves suggests different: I'm not even sure if that's being considered. It's certainly nothing I can talk about. I have absolutely no knowledge of it whatsoever. Not even sure it's being planned No surprise there. We don't want another "Riiiiiiiidge Racer!" happening again. Related Articles:

uh sounds kinda fishy... of course there will be a PS4.

» Hopefully...
The PS4 will have a much accessible price point. Hopefully it will launch at 399 (or better yet, 299 but not too gimped). Let's pray Sony has learned something from the failure of the PS3.

» ps3 a failure???
Approximately 17 million sold worldwide and counting a failure? A piss-poor launch yes, but in the last several months it has definitely picked up. With more to look forward to than the other competing consoles combined and since HD is tthe future and Blu-ray being the main storage medium, the PS3's sales and support will grow.

» HAHAHAHA
ps3 is just barely getting started.
Xbox is done, wii is a gimmick and most people already have one and realize that it sucks. Seriously, is there anything good coming the future for 360? And now that devs have finally figured out how to use the ps3, its going to make a huge comeback. Remember, it was only in its 3rd year the xbox truly dominated. Well, the ps3's third year is just beginning. I guess 3rd time really is the charm!

» @Sting @Pimp
Sting, i truly hope you're right with the 3rd year prediction. Because to be frank, i would have expected the devs to truly "figured out how to use the ps3" after TWO *****ing years. I agree with the Wii gimmicky that sucks, btw. But as for no future for the 360, come on... just look at the planned releases for the PS3 vs the 360 and do the math.
Pimp, with such a huge install base as the PS2... Yes, i consider the PS3 a failure. Truth is, the PS3 had so many marketing mistakes that it hurts to think about the days when the PS2 smoked the Xbox.

» I'd rather see...
Plans of a slimline PS3 by 2010 rather than any for the PS4.
But thats just me ;)

Why is the media trying to create so much doubt?
I mean I know all media outlets have higher popularity when people are worried but this is a little ridiculous. The ps3 is like 2 years old. Why would they be planning another console already?
