SCEA's Director of Hardware Marketing John Koller once again gives us the rundown of what Sony has in
store for the PlayStation 3 and the PSP. Some of what he said are stuff we heard before, but all in all, it sounds like gamers will have a lot of reasons to be really happy pretty soon. PlayStation Home First off, about Home. Although Koller can't give an actual release date, he does say that its release is "imminent," and that he strongly feels they'll be able to launch it before next year. So what's with the hold up? We want to make sure that it's the best, so a lot of what we're doing in the closed beta is fixing some of those loose ends and making sure that the final launch product is fantastic. Everything that we're seeing right now is that it's going to be everything and more that consumers have been asking for. He also addresses info that's been leaked not very long ago, indicating that the new Home interface isn't a PSP anymore. He doesn't give specifics, but he does say that "The PSP's always been part of the integration plan, so we see that as valuable, but we should probably give you more direct comments later on." More PSP games next year While we're on the subject, Koller also mentions that they are working on strengthening the connection between the PlayStation 3 and the PSP, and will be an area of focus next year. PSP gamers will also have more games to look forward to next year: We're going to have to get beyond the holiday before the announcements from third parties; they want to sell their products for this year. [...] You notice that on any board you go to online, it's like there's always that discussion of "Where are the games?" and "Will we get them?" and there's always that answer of "Yes, they're coming" and we can say unequivocally that in '09 games are coming and they're going to be rewarded. [...] When the games come in the quantity and quality we'll see next year, I think it's going to be a real strong tidal wave for sales. Hybrid Blu-ray discs Finally, he mentions that there is a possibility that we'll see hybrid Blu-ray discs next year: You could have games that have maybe a movie or a trailer attached to it on the disc. The space... [laughs] 50 gigs is a lot of space, so there's... many games can accommodate that. Games like Resistance or Metal Gear which are bumping up on that top end may not have as much space, so it really depends, but the ability to have a Blu-ray hybrid disc is certainly available and I think we'll see some of that next year. see all the good things to come when stuff dont get hacked and cracked
yes but do you see how long it took them to do all of this?and if you knew anything you'd know that even hacked consoles are going to be able to use this stuff when it comes out.thats why DA gave us the ability to use the playstatiion store in the latest cfw.its ignorance like yours that does nothing but hurt the homebrew scene.
now dont you feel like an ignorant idiot? I thought so.
oh and one more peice of data for ya...it has been proven that custom firmware helped boost psp sales and kept the console alive because it was so great.sony admitted it.so yeah...
you're so misguided.
PSP has been neglected forever. PS3 has been getting constant support. New stuff comes out like every month for ps3, and the games are great.
Hacking/cracking is an issue because many (NOT all) who use homebrew also pirate games, and it seriously discourages devs from making good games. This discourages Sony from supporting it.
Sony makes its money through the games, not the hardware. In fact it takes a loss for each unit sold so it can get the price low. So even if they sell 10 million psp's, if only 4 million games are sold they are at a loss.
well i agree with your statement of the psp getting neglected.thats actually what i was getting across. homebrew is our best resource and probably whats kept the system alive entirely(dont flame it).
but my views on pirateing are that theyre not losing money if the game umd never existed.
They surely want to pop it for the holidays, or at LEAST that's what I'd do. I'd do a ratcher and clank + resistance + motorstorm bundle and put home online (write it on the box also, dah) for the same price. That would be great.
For the guy that talked about cracking. I must say that cracked or not, it changes nothing. The ps1/ps2/psp/ds/xbox/xbox360/wii are cracked, and they had or are having a great time! The ps3 cracker would be cool in a way, but loosing online would kill it for me anyway.
dah + being gay?
The plus sign was meant to e an equal sign.
QJ screwed my comment.
Booo...
But it was a total stroke of luck. A friend of mine for some reason had a us ps3, and a uk ps3. and somehow got closed beta invites to both. he have me the us code, and i've been on since last night.
I wish I was allowed to tell you guys some things about home. But if i do that. I may get kicked baned or never invited to another beta again.
I will say this though. home is what it looks like it is. a 3d chat like environment. if you dig things like second life you will like home. but if you don't, nothing home can throw at you make you like it.
friends are easy to find through home though. So those friends listy people will love it.
You're allowed to say anything you want about Home, I think thats the point. At the offical website they even want you to leave comments about Home so they can improve the services. Anyone can go there and learn about what homes all about. I'm in the betta too along with half the people on my friends list. They sent out a ton of invites its almost like its released already. Still, a lot of the features aren't turned on yet, but you can see what they are going for and the service looks amazing.
Yay more PSP games finaly!! I mean its a great device and all they just to get to work on the games for it etc :)
Based upon what Koller attributed to being a "Hybrid Blu-ray Disc", then those are ALREADY out. The Special Edition of Quantum of Solace is a Hybrid Blu-ray, with both movie-data content (accessed through the Video bar on the XMB) and game data.
If that's the definition, then it's more akin to the concept of an "Enhanced CD" ("CD Extra"). I thought hybrid was going to describe something like HD-DVD Combos (which had DVD on one side). I recall JVC even put out a Hybrid BD prototype which was BD/DVD.
