Sony Japan to release new high-cap battery for Slim (with extra-large cover) - Image 1Finding it a little annoying having to buy a new cover just to be able to load the PSP Fat's higher-capacity battery on your Slim?

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is sending word that they're preparing to release a 2200mAh Battery that comes with its own extra-large cover.

The expanded battery will give your Slim nearly double its original run time, with up to seven hours of game time, or 7 to 9 hours of movie viewing time. The colors provided for this battery's cover are piano black, ceramic white, and silver ice.

For those who are wondering, the Blume series covers are expected to arrive later on. Sony will be releasing this new Slim peripheral in Japan on March 19 for an expected retail price of 5,500  Yen (US$ 51).

There is still no word regarding a release in English-speaking markets.

I'm more excited about the cover than the battery, the cover on my PSP feels so cheap, it just wobbles about. Hopefully this will be tighter.

Oh yea and more battery life is nice. Handhelds need at least 7 hours battery life IMO.

I bet they will be pandora-proof.

Of course they will be, aren't some new PSP batteries already pandora proof in that they don't let you change the EEProm or some jazz like that?

Odd they should take this course of action yet didn't have any new protection from 3.80 to the 3.90 f/w. Hence DaX uploading his CFW so quickly.

I have this exact battery and I turned it into a pandora's battery that works.

there's already a 2200 mah battery and it fits with the regular cover. Unless they make a bigger battery with even bigger cover, which they won't.

no lie...

I swear to GOD I bought this exact same set at Bestbuy a week ago.. I returned it because I thought it was a SLIM battery... its the same PHAT battery with a cover that fits on the slim... and there was no white cover in the box... Just black and Silver.

 » Might pick this up

7-9 hours on a PSP is great, maybe that'll give up to 4-6 hours on a PSP that is running @ 333MHz which is better than the 2.5-3 hours I usually get playing on mine.
