PSP-3000 - Image 1

So you all probably know about the rumors and speculation surrounding this whole LittleBigPlanet PSP reincarnation, in some form or other - but what does Sony PSP brand manager John Koller have to say about it? Talking to MTV Multiplayer, he didn't deny it, he didn't confirm it either; but quite frankly, he says it's possible because LBP is PlayStation-friendly, overall.

LittleBigPlanet is so expansionary. I think the developer’s really concentrating on right now making sure that the launched product is everything it could be and can be. We’re watching the UGC [user generated content] and seeing how that’s playing out. But for the future, I think certainly, we’d look at a wide variety of opportunities. Whether that’s the PSP or not, I can’t really say. We certainly look at LittleBigPlanet franchise as a going forward franchise for us, and that speaks to the PlayStation brand overall.

Don't blink just yet. Aside from that, Koller also dropped some hints stating that the Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises may also find themselves on PSP gamers' hands in the future.

It’s of huge interest to us. That’s something you’d really have to talk to the developers on that side [if] it’s going to happen or not. For us, we look at the music area as being critical for PSP and the social area of interest as well. PSP is a lot different than your traditional handheld product and music is the number two use on the PSP, behind gaming. So, the marrying of those two concepts is of huge interest to us, and if there’s that opportunity to launch a title like that or even a new title that utilizes music in some way, then obviously we’re very interested.

Now we have express opinion from the Sony PSP brand manager here - he's welcoming all three games on the handheld. At least in their (Sony's) side of things, it's pretty much a green light to get LBP, GH, and RB on the PSP. Now it's just all a matter of the respective developers getting their act together.

Media Molecule seems to be busy with PS3 content support for LBP - but maybe Harmonix and Activision may allocate some resources of theirs to other more portable reincarnations of their rhythm titles, eh? And no, by saying "portable", we're not only talking about DS versions.

how would you be able to play it on a handheld? is there going to be a guitar add-on? if that will happen, you can say goodbye to the word 'portable'. it doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Truthfully I think the DS version of it is crap, but what if Sony developed some patch for the PSP that would let the Wireless Guitars connect to the PSP.

It would still be portable. Wherever you're at, set the PSP on a sortof stand and then play the instrument. Now you wouldn't be able to play it while walking down the street, but how often do people actually do so? Not very.

Who's gonna carry a guitar hero guitar with them at all times? You'd look like a freakin IDIOT as well as its inconvenient.

I'm surprised this hasn't been released years ago. We don't need a gimmicky plastic addon to play these games. Just make a solid game with a lot of good songs, let people download new songs or even create there own and share them on the network. Some PS3 connectivity would be nice. Let us download the songs from our PS3 version to the memory stick on the PSP and play those also.

The game will still be enjoyable with any type of cumbersome adapter. Just holding the 5 buttons and strumming with the analog stick would be better than the awkward DS controls.

It wouldn't be that hard for them to have a snap on guitar piece that plugged into the audio/video port on the bottom of the PSP.
