Excerpt of article on Sony Magazine about PSP Phone - Image 1

If you've taken a look at the latest issue of Sony Magazine, you might have noticed a little clause under one of the articles that might have sparked your interest.

SEfanatics noted that the article mentioned a "PSP-style phone" which is currently in development, and thus resurfacing the rumors of a video game platform and mobile phone combination once again. It was also mentioned in the article that the device could be "in shops as early as February".

While this rumor isn't exactly new, it does help that the source is slightly closer to the mark with its connection to Sony than the previous instances that the PSP Phone was supposedly sighted.

Might this finally mean the arrival of the fabled PSP Phone that's been the talk of the town last year? Who knows. What we are sure of is that we'll be keeping our eyes and ears open for more information on this supposed "PSP-style phone", so keep coming back to this space for more updates as we get them.

My first, first post yey!

Anyway, how long will this rumour pop up for. It's a FAKE!

 » Which bit is fake?

Angelo what are you saying? That this particular issue of Sony Magazine doesn't exist, doesn't have that tagline on it's cover, or that Sony are just lying?

   Re: jbardi - 2008-02-16
 » a fake?

You know, I can never understand where self-proclaimed experts like Angelo come from... little, pathetic people that need attention, because as far as I know, the ONLY way someone can know if this is a fake is if they work for Sony. And since Angelo, posting for the first time, is very unlikely to be intelligent enough to have such a position, it must be rooted in either their love for the iPhone or their hatred for Sony and the PSP... because frankly, why on earth would you come on here, state its a fake, with no facts to back it up. Rumor is rumor, but Sony magazine, having a bit more inside information than Angelo probably has about anything in his life, would be more likely to more solidify the rumor.

Sorry, but your plans were foiled by "advertising", who has a habit of leaving blank posts :P

Anyhow, not saying that I do believe this rumor, nor that I don't believe it, but do remember that the PSP2 was a fake, too. Until it actually came out as the PSP 2000 ("slim/lite"). pwned.

Also, when the phone psp comes out, I'll be sure to get one using the free money given to me by

www.swatcash.com/admin

Those guys are awesome. In addition to over $300 in checks, they've given me a free DS Lite, a wii and a PSP 2000. Sure you might not believe me, but go ahead and join in (you can register through the link above), and try it out. I'm glad I did! :D

Could new Skype application included in FW 3.90 be part of the PSP Phone rumors?

LOL oh I'm sorry it's not about the iPhone I don't care :)

 » How sad!

I, for one, like Apple. I have been a software developer since the VIC-20, Commodore 64/128, Amiga, and the early BSD Unix systems before Linux existed for the fanboys to play with as well as working with Windows since Windows 3.1. Many of these names may have some people scratching their heads, as they only first heard of them from the emulators released of those computer systems for the PSP.

I have also been a Web Application Developer since the early years of the Internet and worked with Windows throughout that entire time, yet 2 Christmas's ago, I changed all the workstations in my company to Mac Minis and Macbooks and all of our servers to XServe. I love the iPhone, I love Leopard and adore my Apple TV, however, I am not married to any of them and would always hope for a new challenger to the iPhone.

You see, just because I worked with Windows for so many years, doesn't mean I embraced the piece of crap called Vista. I found something better in their competition. And just because I now moved everything to Apple, does not mean I am stuck with them and think nobody else is worth my time.

What you fail to realize, raggedjimmy, is that without good, solid competition to fuel the market, the iPhone would quickly become stagnant, as Apple would have no motivation to better it with new features if there is nothing in the same category from another company.

I look forward in great anticipation and hope for the release of a phone from Sony that could combine all the features I love about the PSP with all the features I need in a daily phone for my business.

The problem is, I suspect that 90% of the forum members on QJ, and possibly many of its writers, are too young to know much about the beginnings of computer and tech industry, and frankly may not have a stake in where it goes beyond the next cool game to be released. So sad.

 » eh...

I believe raggedjimmi was making a joke. Note the happy face at the end. This can go in one of two ways though. He could be mimicking a fanboy, or maybe he really is a fanboy, but admits that he knows it (as opposed to the generic fanboys, who don't realize they're fanboys).

With that being said, I too remember the days of windows 3.1. Many, many millenia ago (I believe it was 2001), my windows 98 computer had issues booting, and even when it did, it'd not read CDs (even the computer was old, from 1997 I think). So, my only recourse was to use an old windows 3.1 computer I had lying around. It was a nightmare... 4 mb ram, 60 mb harddrive, no external media (except a floppy drive. Thank God it was 3.5 inch and not the 5.25!)... Oh, and the drivers for the sound card were screwed up, and it'd remind you this EVERYTIME YOU BOOTED...

In the end, (being 2001 and all), since I couldn't find any compatible DOS programs, I settled with only one program: LOOPY NES. Ah, the good old days of back when I'd bring a floppy disk to school, download 2-5 nes roms (that's all that'd fit :P), and then bring them home and HOPE they'd work with LOOPY NES. Ah, it feels so nostalgic :P

Come to think of it, I DID (and still do) have my NES, with quite a formidable arsenal of games... Why didn't I just hook it up directly to the TV and play it with sound?! Wow, I'm such a geek.

Anyway, during that time I read a lot about computers, and finally figured out how to build a computer. You can imagine how awe inspired I was by the graphics of Windows 98 (and the "high" resolution of 800*600 as opposed to the 120 by 240 or whatever it was that I was running prior :P) when I finally finished building the PC.

Anyhow, with that long story out of the way, just wanted to tell you that if any of you are desperate to get an iphone, go to

www.swatcash.com/admin

After I get my free 360 elite in April, I'm expecting to have enough free credits by Julyish to get the free iphone too! :D

Well, I'm sure your site is awesome and all, but it can't compare with www.swatcash.com/admin

They give away free stuff. For example, there's a contest for the EVERY DAY in the month of February, where an admin will randomly post a picture of an ipod nano (the new version), and the first person to say "I want an ipod nano in [your choice of color]," will get that ipod, no strings attached. I got a few free stuff in similar contests (though admittedly I've been too slow to win the nanos, but hey, there's like 15 more chances to win :P).

Anyhow, after joining www.swatcash.com/admin be sure to go to www.swatcash.com/chat, and chat with the members to get a feel. Just remember that most members are on after school hours, so if it's deserted, that's probably why ;p

Oh, and speaking of chat, they do hold chat contests once in a while. Everyday this month, the admin is doing a contest where he'll randomly show up, and say "Post your numbers!" (referring to your member number). Anyone to post their number within a minute of him writing that chat message (you get your number by registering at swatcash.com/chat) will get $5. No questions asked. I actually won one of these contests, so I can verify it's true :D

Anyhow, sorry for being slightly off topic. Regarding this psp phone, I agree that maybe it was just a hint towards the advent of the skype thingy. After all, considering how you have to pay for a cellphone plan anyway, a cheaper skype plan is a great alternative, so what else does a cellphone need?

Ok, I concede that working on different bands instead of just wifi would be nice, but still :P
