PSP2...Or not - Image 1 Another rumor goes the path of the Aurora bomber, Crysis 360, and the cure for baldness. If you guys are having too much fun ogling over the PSP2 concept art made by Emre Husmen, look away - as Sony says there is nothing of the sort cooking up.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has just announced that "There is no PSP2." in the works, and that rumors circulating about a PSP successor are just that - rumors.

Among other features that the PSP2 would carry was an obscenely large 60GB HDD, a built-in camera function, Bluetooth capabilities, and a cell phone. Of course, there are far more features circulating out there, which carry over our best hopes for the portable. For now, we resume the daily homebrew grind with the console that's already here.

60gb hard drive's never going to happen just now, on any device, when the typical flash drive for portable devices is 8gb. Hence the iPhone's only going to be 4gb & 8gb when it comes out.

   Re: J Z (Unregistered) - 2007-01-19
 » well...

They've already got 60 GB iPods and Zen Vision MP3 players. But those are micro harddrives not flash mem, though they could put a mini drive in a PSP if they reworked it a little.

   Re: john (Unregistered) - 2007-01-19
 » but

As you say, they're not flash memory. *If* anything was done about a new PSP, SCE should hopefully only think of non-moving parts i.e. flash storage to maximise battery power.

   Re: J Z (Unregistered) - 2007-01-19
 » yeah

True, plus there's less of a chance of shock damage. I guess they could put multiple modules of mem in a PSP.

But anyways, at "??????????". Homebrewer devs like DaX is not why there's no PSP2. There would be no point in releasing a PSP2 anytime soom even if they WERE making one. There's nothing wrong with the current PSP. Anything that can be wanted can pretty much be made via USB.

Just a thought, but it'd be cool if Sony made a dual analog add on that mounts somehow on the bottom of the PSP and attatches through USB. Imagine the increased possibilities for games with simply adding another analog stick.

PSP(one) will be good enough for a long time. With custom firmwares and homebrew, and the much anticipated 32gb proHG, PSP will be here for a long time. :)

 » I wouldn't count on it...

Japanese manufacturers *always* play their cards close to their vest. The reason is obvious. They want you to buy their current products as opposed to sitting on your bum waiting for the next offering to come out.

A certain amount of time before the product comes out, Japanese manufacturers will make an official announcement of its release. Up until that point, they will deny that the product exists. This is just how Japanese companies work.

Another fact about Japanese companies is that they are very hush-hush even with their foreign counterparts. If you *did* want to get accurate information, you don't ask European affiliates.

Some of the rumors circulating about the PSP2 are certainly made-up but I have no dount that Sony is working on the PSP2.

Sony arn't Nintendo - They don't bring out new designs every year.

True.

   Re: PurpleShadow (Unregistered) - 2007-01-19
 » Yup

That's right. But that's also what worries me. A new design, I don't mind. But if a totally new console comes out, then I'll be VERY pissed off at them for making me wasting £180 on a console that would then be obselete, with no new games on it.
So, despite my beliefs, I'm still hoping that they will bring out just a new design.
With a TA-082mobo :D

there will never be a psp2.. why?
cause the current sucks ass, no games to play...a few are over rated but boring...
games are not about graphics but gameplay..

and if it wasnt for D_A OE fw my psp will probably be still collecting dust like alot of other ppl's psps's :P

Usually $ONY (or other giant companies) doesn't respond to *any* rumor. Mostly they respond to say its not true but days/months/years later they'll gonna release it. Its just part of marketing strategy after all.

what if for the psp2 (if there is ever one) they made it so the d-pad, and otherbutton (cross, circle, square and triangle) were also the analog sticks? Like so you could be using the analog stick, and whithout moving your fingers you could also press square for instance. that would be tight

   Re: deaq (Unregistered) - 2007-01-20
 » fdasdwq

there was a mod that used 2 analog stick that the up was triangle..... But if u mean using 1 analog stick i donno how they going to do that... what i think would be tight is if they used that touch pad thing (mouse pad in laptops/ipod scrolls) things somehow

   Re: J Z (Unregistered) - 2007-01-20
 » actually

I configured "PSP Dungeons" (the homebrew FPS game) so that Triangle was up, X was down, Square was strafe right, and Circle was strafe left, and the analog stick was to turn/aim. It worked really well and I think the PSP could have more FPS games released if they were configured this way. To activate other functions in-game they could just use key combos, sort of like how SOCOM FTB2s inventory selector worked.

Doesn't mean no PSP redesign. But then when things aren't bound to a NDA like the PSP redesign that's already been confirmed by someone I know from Famitsu to come out later this year. So it's we'll see type thing.

Good point, TMT. Its debates like this that get you using your brain. :)

I still do believe there will be another Handheld Playstation, and I believe there will be a firmware update for the PS3 for compatibility. But for right now, lets focus on not remodeling the PSP, but changing up the way it works.
