Ó

PSPWe've seen USB pen drives going up to and above 32GB for quite some time now but with the demands of modern gadgets for more storage space escalating, we need more space than ever. For this reason, Sony and SanDisk have teamed up to offer the 32GB Pro-HG memory stick format.

This is based on the memory stick Pro which is a larger version of the Pro Duo you can find in your PSP (and commonly used in digital cameras). The Pro-HG technology though will extend as far as the memory stick Pro Duo, giving us the option of yes - you guessed it - allowing 32GB storage on a PSP!

Not only does the new format offer a huge storage increase, it also uses an enhanced, 8-bit parallel interface in addition to a conventional serial and 4-bit parallel interface with the interface clock frequency also on the increase to 60MHz from 40MHz.

In plain English, this means that maximum data transfer speed increases up to 480Mbps, or 60MB/s - three times as fast as that of Memory Stick PRO media. This makes it much quicker to transfer GBs of data to your memory stick from a PC or memory card slot and then effectively make it more of a portable hard drive, storing your videos, photos, and music. The
Memory Stick PRO-HG format media can be used on conventional Memory Stick PRO compliant devices as well as Memory Stick PRO-HG compliant host devices, so it'll work fine in your PSP.

This all sounds good, but I'm afraid we've led you on a little bit here. The Sony press release stated that the "development of Memory Stick PRO-HG compliant host devices is scheduled to commence in January 2007", with the recording media available in 2007 which basically means you won't be able to utilize the full benefits of this on your PSP. You should be able to get the increased storage on a PSP, possibly through a firmware update, but the transfer speeds will most likely not apply.

However, on a slightly more optimistic note, there has been much speculation that a "PSP2" device, or maybe just a different model of PSP with uprated hardware could be in the works. Who knows, we could be seeing a PSP with memory stick Pro-HG Duo support in 2007.

the price will be way to high

Re: Price Freak (Unregistered) - 2006-12-13
 » Well..........

The problem is with this new memory stick is......

1) Firmware update. The PSP will need a new way to read the memory stick. This will be solved when the new firmware comes out.
2) Price. Who wants to pay 300 dollras JUST to get a dam memory stick. I would pay 150 dollars for a 10 or 20 gig, but 32 is WAY to much.

Hmmm.... $300 for 32 GB of games?
That's like every 'good' PSP game to date.

they went from 256mb to 4GB within months and also the price drop like crazy. WHY do u think the 4GB is $70 anywhere righ now? because they already have the 8GB ready to let out and the beginning of the next yr we should see 16gb and 32gb very soon. btw they already figure it out how to make hundreds of GBs on a memory stick.

Remember the best things come to those who wait.

That was the problem chowder head, he used spellcheck which recognized uprated as a real word - oh wait, IT IS A WORD. It even means the same thing. thanks for proving your clever.

so................... you mean that this isn't the size of a memory stick pro duo, and that they will have to remake the psp so that this thing will even go into it.........

wow what a fricken waste. period

wake up sony, all we want is a memory card that fits in our psp no strings. hell i dont even care if it sticks out an inch or two. OMG. just give the psp memory and we give you money. period

   Re: databoy2k - 2006-12-11
 » Upgraded Memory Stick Duo's

It sounds like it'll be upgraded (or uprated) TECHNOLOGY within the duo's, meaning it will be the size of a duo with the extra space...

If you read the article it says that it wont be bigger then the pro duo.

 » hmmm

I wouldn't be suprised if there will be FW version with 8GB+ support next year (or in 2008)

and as it goes for PSP2, there's huge chance that they will use PRX's there - that means some PRX's could be converted to PSP1 ? neat theory :P but hell we all would take PSP2 probably, wouldn't we ?

   by baseballboy (Unregistered) - 2006-12-11
 » lol

yes i know he said it would be the size of a duo but i mean compatibility and the way the memory runs aka /the power where the power wiring is how it saves/ and all that other electrical crap. I know this stuff i have modded my psp multiple times. lol i also know how computers and memory work.

I think we really need a mod that gives us hardive space. AHEM as in memory stick built in. MUCH more conventional mod. I tried it, SIGH it didn't work for me.................. but at least i didn't brick my psp

   Re: comedy - 2006-12-11
 » well..

i dont' know, if you've ever used 'hi speed' memory in something not as high speed usually it simply runs at the lower speed without complaining.

if it still uses the same set of shiny bronzed bits then it's possible to make it work. the problem is the psp's memory format thing, basically it doesn't support volumes of over 4 gig.
so yeah, a major firmware upgrade would have to be made, or some seriously clever prx work.

would be nice to have 32gig on my duo (could have every final fantasy on there!) but the cost will be astronomical.

sony waits til people start on a psx emulator then they copywright that now people are looking for bigger memory and sony is right on top of it and im sure sony's waiting till we think of something else cool and wala osny;s new product i dont see how they complain cause were not only there basis of harware modifications but also test dummies were there ears if a game sucks or rocks we opened there eyes on there own creation and bam i *****ing hope this works on old psp,s cause this 1 gig aint cutting it

If a 4gb started off as $220... well, 32 / 4 = 8, so its 8x more memory than 4gb. Meaning what Nick, you`re asking? Well, 8x the price too. 220 x 8 = ...

$1,760. Mmmm.. I know what mommy`s getting ME for Christmas :D NOT! Who the @#$% would pay that much for memory? Hardly anyone is paying 600 for a PS3.

   Re: LOL (Unregistered) - 2006-12-12

you're right, they're paying anywhere from $2000-$9000.

your point being?

   Re: Your a dumb Fuc.k (Unregistered) - 2006-12-12
 » wow stfu

Thats not how they decide the price 512 mem $39.99 so by your logic the 1 gig would be 80? Nope its $50... double the space 10 more bucks? applying that to the 2 gig it would mean its a 100? nope $90. kthx so stfu

   Re: Nick (Unregistered) - 2006-12-13
 » Actually...

^^^ YOU`RE thedumb fuc.k :D

See, 1 gig WAS $80 when it first came out, just like 4 gig WAS $220 when it first came out, just like 2 gig WAS $120 when it just came out. See, you see the prices now 5 months later when they went down, I was talking about the prices when they first came out.

Do a little research and stfu ;)

300 would be a steal for this i would buy 2 or 3 for that price

So, if they make a better psp model and include new faster tech and so on - are they going to leave us in the dust if developers want to produce games on that format with plenty of speed and better battery wear than umd...

I think I'm going to throw out my psp if I get forgotten only a year and half later - ugh

 » THIS CRAP

look all i'm saying is holy fricken christ. You guys, just read. This "thing" is gonna cost around 5,000. OMFG thats a crapload of cash most gamers don't got including myself to get for a psp memory. I'm gonna work on the USB FLASH MOD. Instead of hopeing for something ican't afford. And for more retardation lets just add that 60gb IPOD IS 400 DOLARS . YEAH I AM SURE GONNA BUY A PSP FOR 200 THEN GO BUY 32gb FOR 5,000 AND HELL YEAH IT MIGHT NOT WORK. Whoho we must be rednecks. LOL. i'm sorry but i for one think sony is beggining to restrict the psp. LOL i mean they vetowed the keyboard idea and i *****ing wanted it. I love you qj, srry if i flamed

   Re: BULL3TPR00F - 2006-12-11
 » wow

ppl calm the ***** down, you know nothing about marketing. the price of a product is NEVER just a direct multiplication of lower versions to create the equivalent of what the new product is. and plus this is completely new tech being used in these memsticks. yes that will influence the priceing. but the main thing is how much it costs sony and sandisk to actually MANUFACTURE the sticks. then they just inflate the price slightly.

we will just have to wait and see (and plus prices for memsticks are dropping monthly and very steady rates, its easy to grab a 4gb now for about 8gb where at first when it came out it costed about $300.

but another main point people are missing. Two competitor flash memory making companies (well technically sony dusnt make then, samsung dus, just with sony's name on the case) are merging (merging isnt the right word, but ica nt think of another one) to create a joint project. that is great news

   Re: BULL3TPR00F - 2006-12-11
 » wow typos lol

"dropping monthly and very steady rates,"

meant to say dropping monthly AT stead rates.

"grab a 4gb now for about 8gb"

meant to say a 4gb for $80

sir, you are an idiot. stop telling lies about how you are working on mods for the PSP memory as it is obvious from your poor choice of vocabulary and ridiculous assumptions about pricing that you are too stupid to figure anything like that out.
