Is there an actual risk or are sony just trying to get people to buy thier battery packs instead
(PS hopefully ive denied a n00b the ability to say OMFG First post !!!!!!!)
just to spite you #1...
SECOND POST! ZOMG! :P
Ah well, another ploy in sony's vast armament to lock down people into fear of blowing up their technology if/when they're not using their own so-damnexpensive-ny batteries.
Then again, age old adage "buy only from trusted, proven worthy sources". Nothing wrong with 3rd party, just make sure you did some research into reliability.
What's next, using non Sony memorysticks can make your wifi fail?
that's what i thought too... prolly sony is just trying to make ppl buy their hyper expensive products and not the 3th party ones. shame on urself, $ONY!
sony tested their batteries to be 100% comptabile with the psp. other brands were not supported by sony, so sony can say their brand works 100% and other brands don't. In reality, any battery should be fine. this is just popping up cause sony wouldn't replace someones psp who had a different battery pack.
Please only use our expensive batteries. I've had one of the extended power batteries for a while now without any problems and it's not a Sony brand battery. I think it's just Sony trying to fool people into buying their overpriced batteries.
(P.S Every time they are denied the first post ability somewhere a n00b dies)
After only some months of use, the connections that the battery uses (using only the official sony battery) are becoming corroded (at the mainboard/soldered connection itself on the positive lead) and have that nice white grit associated with battery leakage and corrosion between 2 types of metals.
"our more expensive, shorter life batteries are better and wont damage your PSP".. yeah, sure, anything you say Sony...
Use only official batteries? Ha Ha, wait for the unofficial Firmwares...........
I can hear them crying already.
One must know that battery tech is sometime difficult to master correctly.
It happened that battery in mobile phones exploded already... and more than one customer.
That's why all big makers of battery (most of them japanese) take care of their building process to avoid customer trouble.
But for "small" makers trying to make money out of the mobile market, I bet quality test, quality of process is most likely to be weaker than big makers with huge customer base.
Personnally, I understand why Sony would issue such warning. But yes, it is still better for them that you buy their battery instead of competitor ones ;-)
While the risk is may be 1 over millions with a known brand company. It may divided by 4 or 5 with small makers.
Sounds like they want to avoid lawsuits to me :O
In other words, 'We don't want you buying cheaper batteries from other companies buy ours so we get the profits!'
USE OF NON-SONY HEADPHONES WILL DAMAGE YOUR HEADPHONE PORT QUALITY OVER TIME DUE TO USING CHEAPER, MORE RELIABLE AND DURABLE HEADPHONES THAT SOUND BETTER
and yes...the fake firmware warnings will be simply splendid to hear.
btw, laxer3A(TYL) , if that is really you, then just for *****s and giggles, i love your work.

I saw Sony's 'new' battery on ebay once, yeah that one with 20% more capacity (2200mAh)
It looked real and was cheap ($25) (the seller was from china)
So I bought it, when I recieved it that package looked real
but when I used it, my psp turned off after a while but without warning (the green light blinking)
So I recharged it and used it watching the 'Battery Information'
I saw that the battery emptied just before it said 25%
So, my conclusion is that MY PSP BATTERY IS FAAAAAAKKKKKKEEEEEE!!!!!
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING ON EBAY COMING FROM CHINA!!!!!!
EVERYTHING COMING FROM CHINA IS 100% FAKE!!!!!!!!
(i also bought some 2GB mms from china, all fake)
They just want more money.
Now I woudl onyl trusts sony batteries anyway. Not because sony is so great, but because the only other PSP batteries are either chinatown ***** or datel and datel sukks monkeyballs, so i gotta stick with sony
Does this mean that if I put a duracel in an energizer bunny doll, will it explode?
maybe.....the battery it has a hole security in this systeme for all psp version... hahahahahhaha lol
i bet most of your house's appliances are made in china...unless your psp was from japan it's prolly from china too=] nice its a fake=].
i haven't tried any third party batteries, i just use the original, the batteries have short life=[
Seriously though, remeber the 3'rd party battery that was recalled about 2 months ago? (pelican? I think) There were issues with them exploding during a recharge, and from the pics I saw, the PSP came off second best. ( well, the bits I could see....)
Personally, I use Sony's 2200mAh battery and keep the original for a spare. Simply for the reason that it fits inside the PSP, not like some of the cheap external "booster packs" that are available.
Yeah but the chinese will even make knockoff of their own items. there was a post letting users know about the knock off Memory sticks a while ago... they look just like the real things... very hard to tell. I was a victom of the fake sony battery, but i got a full refund ^_^
i wonder if my battery (exactly the same one in the picture) is compatible (or a fake) from ebay (japan)
HAhHAhAH uhhh...anal.
Milking the cows, eh Sony! >=D
u cows love T3H S0NY.
ZOMG BBQ WTF U 137 S0NY S1A5H U!
Sony has no other option but to only support their own products. They have no/very limited control over what 3rd party products are out there. From a liability standpoint, they cannot be held responsible for the failure of someone else's products. Someone here mentioned that they were trying to dodge lawsuits. And why shouldn't they? Just because they are Sony doesn't mean they should stand in front of every legal freight train that comes along.
They're simply saying they're not going to cover damages from SOMEONE ELSE'S PRODUCT.
Here's a scenario for you: Let's say you run a store of your own. Someone buys a cheap-ass knock-off accessory from someone else and it breaks. They come to your store, complain, and ask you to replace it. What would you do? Hand out free stuff to every jerk that walks in? I doubt it.
when paying $20 for one gives me more. I've been using rechargeable batteries for 10+ years, I've never had a probelm with any of them.
Both psp batteries put out the same power, both are the same size, nothing leaks, sony is just trying to get us to buy their ever expensive non-selling batteries.
Hey sony, offer an internal battery that's 3000mah or higher and I'll buy it, but only if it's not higher than your current batteries.
... yeah, bs, get whatever- I'm sure a sanyo battery pack is prolly better than sonys.... Ive never had a battery blow up on me- and we all know how sony are money grabbing gets :P
LEAVE OUR HOMEBREW ALONE! (FREEEEDOM!)
uh-oh, i have a sandisk memory stick. Does that mean my warranty would be voided if it didn't expire already?
actually 3rd party stuff is far superior to $ony's cheaply made, expensively sold sh*t
i bought fake battery and 2gb mms the battery at 20-25% go at 0% in like 10sec...

hey i did this and my headphone port really broke haha!the right side of the port was pushed in and the left platic snaped and now i cant use sound (i used headphones because my speakers broke too :@)
As we all know, all china does is rip off our products. Why you ask...simple they are all thieving yellow bellied tards that couldn't actually come up with an original idea when it comes to hardware. No offense to some of the talented homebrewers out there but we have to relize that were selling out to china and we should start bringing back our jobs to our country both here in the US o A and Canada. Some 3rd party companies are good including the ones here in the US so why not buy a good home grown product from your own country instead of a oppressive theiving country like china!
Support your country and support the soldiers
Come back home safe!
From Gamerush, though it seems so many people either don't know about what Gamerush is or simply don't have one in their area.
I don't know if the sale is still going on :(
Just don't use a battery made by Pelican. Remember the exploding power brick?
Meh.
