This article was originally posted on June 24, 2008 at 7:05 p.m. As a follow up to the release of the official firmware 4.00 for the PlayStation Portable, Sony announced that firmware revision 4.01 will be released shortly. The new update is simply geared toward the features newly introduced in FW 4.00, which is the Google Search function and the slowdown/speed-up of movie playback. The changes to be expected are just as numerous as last time:
As for those more concerned about homebrew, we hardly believe that this update could push back the release of Custom Firmware 4.00 M33, lest 4.01 be the new revision number to attain. But we still expect some word to crop up from Team M33 regarding the new development from Sony. More on that as we get them. Thanks to Gilberto Jimenez for the reminder! *UPDATE*: It's up and about, folks. This one comes from the members of QJ.NET's forums, who've confirmed that the PSP's auto-update checking routine prompted them to go official. From here on out, the choice is yours. And no, we haven't heard of added DivX support either. Kudo to Natey for the heads up! |

» ..Certain file types?
Hopefully this adds support for DivX/XviD encoded videos. If so, $ony 1-upped Dax!

They'd be making a big deal of it if they were. It'd at least be jumping up on the .x's, not the .0x's.
Loads of people want more video support. If anything like that ever happens, chances are it'll even be a x.00 firmware. Though what being an integer firmware means has been killed off slightly with 4's google searching.

I was always suspicious that SONY would push an auto-update feature to keep us off custom firmwares. With that said, keep you wlan switches off as often as possible since that's the only way SONY can get in. It will be aot better when this feature is ripped by DAX.

» finally :D
I agree with you - finally XD. Being safe just update your PSP via normal way. It's a little bit longer but 100% safer.

TO hell with your computer for emulators... I use my PSP and they all run PERFECTLY. ALL 8 emulators I run are perfect.
Secondly, Custom firmware allows you to play backups of all those crappy games. (I haven't seen a UMD in like 2 years)
Thirdly, CFW lets us play our OWN PSX GAMES
ANY PSX GAME CAN PLAY not just the ones available on the playstation store.
Fourthly, I can use themes that are WAY BETTER than the official themes. CXMB is the best!
Fifth. CFW users can load plugins that greatly enhance the functionality of the PSP. Plugins let the PSP do amazing things that $ony never intended. things like screenshots, and all sorts of great stuff
Sixth, HOMEBREW! HOMEBREW PROGRAMS like iRShell, PSPTUbe, PSPFiler, and LOTS of others also increase and expand the functionality of the PSP
and YOU are a moron... for not having any of this common knowledge.
