Console Accessories and Peripherals - Image 1

Sony has announced that it is expanding its Official License Program (OLP) to peripheral manufacturers in Japan, Asia, North America and Europe/ PAL territories.

This program allows peripheral and accessory makers to access technical documents needed to create licensed products for the PS2, PS3 and PSP consoles. The PSP Go will be covered eventually as well.

Once these peripherals meet the "qualifying SCE standards and requirements" they'll be slapped with an OLP logo. The official OLP site doesn't list down these requirements, but let's just hope that most of what comes out of this program are actually useful.

you can't have Officially Licensed Software because to reach the psp, it always have to been officially licensed

Was I the only one that found it stupid to begin with that Bluetooth accessories that never even physically touch the PS3 couldn't be licensed? Or other things like plug in/wall mount controller charging stations? It is a powered USB hub, nothing more, technology that has been around as long as USB has. What in the world could it possibly do that would damage Sony's precious equipment?

In some cases Official Licensed goods are a smart buy, but often times they are a waste of money. Example, if any of you bought the Sony HDMI cable, you are a special kind of jackass.

 » huh?

bluetooth accessories do exist for the ps3 and the wall mount charges also exist. anything that can you can plug usb to can charge your ps3 controller. i've used my alarm clock once.

You are kidding, right? That was exactly my point. However, only Sony's bluetooth headset is *officially licensed*. How can something that never physically touches a sony product be denied, or even require official licensing?

As for charging a sixaxis, I realize that you can charge off of any powered usb port, that was my other point. However the only *Officially licensed* charger is your PS3 using a Sony brand usb cable. No other type of usb port or aftermarket cables are allowed under sony's warranty. That, my friend, is bull*****.

... it's just idiotic to even think that using another usb port and a usbcable not made by sony will expire your warranty or wont be allowed by sony. Ofcourse if you would use a pc to charge your controller and THAT would be the cause that your sixaxis gets fried, then it's only logical that you wont get a replacement or a free repair... again, that's only using common sense.

Now will you please stop going off topic cause what you just said has nothing to do with the article (ok maybe slightly but still). What sony's planning to do is allow other manufacturers to make controllers, keyboards etc. which have the playstation logo on them, or a text on the package saying: compatible with ps3 or something like that. AGAIN nothing to do with charging your sixaxis with a pc, it's only about products specifically made for the ps3 (for example: sony lets us use standard usb keyboards, and they don't have to be licensed by them)

end rant here

 » I don't understand.

Why do bluetooth accessories need to physically touch the PS3? Also, what does that have to do with licensing?
