Sony's PlayStation 3 - Image 1

It was reported earlier that Sony Computer Entertainment of America is dropping TBWA as their ad firm and taking their account (their US$ 150 million account) to the Los Angeles ad agency, Deutsch, Inc.

TBWA has been SCEA's ad firm for the last 13 years, but all good things must come to an end. Deutsch Inc. is one of the five finalists in the review for the PlayStation account and whose clients include IKEA, Johnson & Johnson, Old Navy and TGI Friday's.

They'll have their work cut out for them if they're planning to come out with an ad campaign in time for the holiday season. It'll be interesting to see where the new agency will take the PlayStation brand.

Ikea has some mighty fine ads in Germany
and in my opinion beautyful photographed catalogues.

but we will see what the future brings :)

Believe it or not some people don't even know what a Playstation is. I think they need to show a lot of ads that give people that don't know about Playstation 3 more insight on it. They need to express that it is for everyone, has many uses that would be beneficial, and show all the good possibilities of having one.

» Reaching out to new crowds

For a long time now Sony's ads were placed to appeal to the hardcore crowd and were placed so that this crowd would see them.

Nintendo hasn't been doing that, and though advertising may not seem like much but I really think that Sony has lost a lot of people because they feel too hardcore now.

Like they don't care about anyone outside of their target demographic and don't care to make manuals easy enough to understand that the average person can use one.

I think a new advertising company could really help in this, draw in new crowds and get people thinking Playstation again. Though as an above user said, I'll start caring when I see the ads

» its about freaking time err late

they should have done this when the first batch of ps3 crap ads came out.

its very simple to reach the game fans, just show everything you got in your face full glory, and believe me they will flock to stores to buy the newest sony craze.

those stupid mind numbing ads that didnt even show games are junk. junk which cost sony half the battle.

show em system and show em pretty games then just wait for sale figures to come in next month. you'll be surprised with the simplest ad making the biggest impact.

 » Its a shame that

There long time ad agency feel down, i mean they have been with them for 13 years, but as time goes by some new blood is needed to help spur things up. I have a feeling IKEA Will make some great ads to help PS3 brand.
