Sony PlayStation Portable - Image 1

It just came to our attention that Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) has rolled out a new firmware update for the PlayStation Portable, bringing the official firmware up to version 3.72. This update concerns models PSP-1001 and PSP-2001 sold in North America.

Here's the official changelog of newest system software update, PSP firmware 3.72:
  • You can now set a theme under [Theme Settings].
    • The home menu color, background and icons for XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) will change, based on the theme that is selected.
  • You can now search for a scene when playing a movie that is saved on Memory Stick Duo media.
    • You can select and play the scene you want to see from a thumbnail image.
  • Simultaneous playback of content under (Music) and (Photo) is now supported.
  • Games
    • New for 3.72: Support for PLAYSTATION ®Network titles has been expanded.
  • Network
    • [Assign Buttons] has been added to the (Remote Play) menu.
  • Video
    • Sequential playback of videos saved on Memory Stick Duo™ media is now supported.
Update: It now appears that PSP firmware 3.72 update also boasts of support for the PlayStation 3' Remote Start feature, a feature that'll be included with PS3 firmware v2.00. Here's the PlayStation UK posting:
  • Support has been added for [Remote Start]* of the PS3 system under [Remote Play].
    • To use this feature, the PS3 system software must be version 2.00 or later. For detailed information about [Remote Start], visit the PS3 Help & Support section at eu.playstation.com and select Connecting to other devices in the General Guides area.

Why would you want any one team of devs to waste their time on this useless update?

This dumb updates make me sick, they remind me of the 3.00, 3.02, 3.03 crap back in the day.

   Re: Ash735 - 2007-10-31
 » Sorry

I'm not a noob, just saying DA usually cracks and gets it done a lot faster now, even if it is a rubbish update (3.02, 3.03, etc). I don't really care, I'm on 3.52 M33-4 and happy with that.

   Re: SCLakitu - 2007-10-30
 » No.

HAY GUISE, WE WANT 3.72 M33 BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT HAS NO NEW WORTHWHILE FEATURES. AND ISN'T REQUIRED FOR ANY NEW GAMES OR DEMOS, I WANT IT BECAUSE IT HAS ONE DIGIT HIGHER, PLEASE M33 MAKE IT BY NEXT WEEK SO I CAN ENJOY LESS SUPPORT FOR HOMEBREW AND MORE BUGS, THANKS

Seriously, it's a worthless update, we don't need 3.72 M33 when there's hardly anything new in it.

^^ nice to know playstation has not abandoned the PSP :)

   Re: Wicked_Insider - 2007-10-30
 » True...

If thats all there is to this update, I don't really
believe it's necessary to create a CFW of 3.72,
instead we should wait till a more meaningful
FW is released with significant updates before
discussing new CFW version possibilities.

I think it's a psychological trick to keep noobs in their place. Seriously.

You: "Hey, man! I have a friend who can downgrade your PSP so that you can play homebrew! He's at http://stores.ebay.com/psp-unbricker "

Friend: "I don't know... What's he gonna do?"

You: "He's gonna install 3.72 m33!"

Friend "Oh, no. 3.73 came out. 3.72 is old!'

You: "No, but 3.73 didn't do anything special. Basically, just the last digit is different, nothing else..."

Friend "No, I'll just stick with my 3.73, because it's one number bigger than 3.72, so it's better and safe and I can't get bricked and I'm so much cooler because I have 3 instead of 2, and the reason that I'm better is because 3 is more than 2."

You: "Stfu"

Friend: "what's stfu mean?"

You: "It means shut the f up. Now, Stfu"

Friend: "No u"

You: "Noob. Kthxbai"

i think sony forgot to enhance psp's sound volume. this is the poorest sound production, why not putting their MEGABASS Here so that i'll boost the sound. everyone thinks that sony has best quality sound, not with this psp.

Find out what features are contained in PSP system software version 3.72.

An update to the PSP system software was made available on October 30, 2007. With this update, the system software is version 3.72. Features updated in system software update 3.72 include

Network

Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles have been expanded.
Support has been added for [Remote Start]* of the PS3 system under [Remote Play].
*To use this feature, the PS3 system software must be version 2.00 or later. For detailed information about [Remote Start], visit the PS3 Help & Support section at eu.playstation.com and select Connecting to other devices in the General Guides area.

Note:

This system software update includes all features contained in previous versions.
The new system software will preserve any settings previously made to the PSP (such as the Parental Control level).
Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PSP system software.
Do not perform updates using any data other than the official update data provided by Sony Computer Entertainment over a network or on disc media, and do not perform updates by methods other than those described in the product documentation or in this site. If an update is performed using data from another source, by another method, or with a PSP system that has been altered or modified in any way, the PSP system may not operate properly and may not be able to install the official update data. Any of these actions may void the PSP system warranty and affect your ability to obtain warranty services and repair services from Sony Computer Entertainment.

This also informs us that there will definatly be a 2.00 firmware, we just don't know when.

I just like the ability to turn on the PS3 remotely. Hopefully there will be a plugin for M33 3.52 V4 that does the same thing.

» I can't see or run backed up ISOs off XMB

in m33's 3.71 :-(. I can run the GOW demo, but when I look for other games, I can't see the other games from my memory stick under the Game folder. Devhooks don't help, either. I don't know if I've deleted folders incorrectly, but I've dl'ed old ultimate installers, tried to use them, and the same thing happens. The Sony logo comes up, then it goes to the blue screen with different languages on it, with the command to 'press O to repair', repeatedly. Also, I've backed up legal PSX games, and have turned on the the popstation in 3.71 m33's recovery menu, and the various games refuse to play. If my mem stick is a fake, would it let me play GOW demo? I had a similar problem in 3.40 oe-a, I believe, with the XMB, but the Devhook 2.71-3.01 hybrid would let me load the games. Help please or a forum guide, please.

Are you talking about the "Game" folder under the XMB, HakatoX? What's the 'right places', pray tell? I don't know why you'd be calling me a N00B; I've been around since 2.0 got downgraded to 1.5. That's long enough to see ChUUmps like you refusing to help folks asking for instructions for almost a couple of years. Thanks again, Chuump.

 » FINALLY!!! YESS!!!

Finally!!! I was soo hoping that they would release new firmware which fixes the Gapless Playback bug in the music player. I sent them a bug report and they actually read it and squashed it.

They broke gapless playback in the 3.70 update.
Now its back.
