Sony rolls out official PSP firmware 3.73 - Image 1QJ.NET Forum members started a thread informing us about the new official PlayStation Portable firmware 3.73. True enough, just moments after the thread was opened, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has officially announced the said change.

As of now, we are still uncertain as to what extent this firmware will affect regular PSP users as well as those who use custom firmwares. The official Japanese official PlayStation website only has one changelog for FW 3.73:

  • PSP software-only play in the UMD loading screen to stop the symptoms has been confirmed for the UMD drive to improve operating stability.
Other PSP regions have yet to come up with their own versions of the PSP FW 3.73. Keep checking back here at QJ.NET for the latest on this development.

maybe a google translation..

I think it means that only PSP games will use the Load screen or something. I think it's something along the lines of a problem created by video UMDs or Music UMDs. Hold on, I'm going to hit up google for more info.

 » wtf?

This bricked my PSP!

Oh, so it didn't, to be honest... But hey, I never get to say that :P

Oh, as for research, I found this: A new firmware update is now available via Network Update for the PSP. Upon booting up the update on our PSP, we found only one familiar change listed in the changelog:

Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded

Definitely not an exciting update. Though it does mean that more PSN titles for PSP are on the way %u2014 and they will require firmware 3.73.

That's from exophase. But no mention of the weird thing about UMDs...

 » Uh?

Your parents are going to "let" you downgrade?

*what?*

Who's PSP is this? Why would you need your parents permission to downgrade your own PSP? No offence or anything, but that's a sucky birthday presents. DO it when they're not looking if it's that big, and ask for a candy bar. That way, you get homebrew and a candy bar!

His parents probably bought the PSP for him, and are afraid that he might brick it or something.

Either that, or they think that you have to buy a "downgrade"...

Or, maybe they bought Lumines early as the birthday gift.

Or maybe, it's in addition to another present for him...

Besides, I haven't gotten anything for my birthday since I was about 11... LOL, 7 years ago :P

one of the main features for the slim has just been fixed up a bit.

 » "Other regions?"

There has only been ONE region-specific firmware... and it was released by mistake. I think it's safe to say that they're universal.

Hey, freeplay's back!

Now, were's Sanjeya? I mean Fanjita? :P

   Re: El Xando - 2007-11-29
 » iamback...

What the hell are on calling Fanjita Sanjeya??? Do you think you're funny? And do you think you're hard because you make fools think you're not registered because you put (unregistered) in your username? Because you're not. Incidentally, which firmware was region-specific?

oh shut up.
i doubt they will be a cfw for this but meh

   Re: FreePlay - 2007-11-29
 » El Xando:

2.00. There was a Japanese version released one day before the universal one. The original Japanese 2.00 is 16,699,585 bytes, and the universal 2.00 is 16,732,033 bytes.

 » el xando...

it's people like you who are a plague on mankind. Get over it, it's a joke. Do you see that weird thing that I ended my post with? The ":P"? It's called an emoticon. That specific emoticon is known as the "tongue", because it looks like a guy sticking out his tongue in jest. See, when a person ends a post with that emoticon, it means they say something in jest, or as a joke (jk also means the same thing).

Calling Fanjita by the name Sanjeya is a play on words. Notice how all three syllables match... It's called a "rhyme". Observe:

SAN FAN
JEY JI
A TA

See? Clever, isn't it?

You should get M33 custom firmware. It's better because it uses a higher up firmware and because of popstation. And besides, both M33 and OE custom firmwares are made by the same developer, Dark_AleX.
