Skype - Image 1Indeed, the New Year is starting off with a bang for handheld gaming. The DS is finally getting its downloadable content feature, and now the Sony CES 2008 website states that the PSP will finally have Skype.

Here's what the website has to say about the PSP and the upcoming Skype integration: "Call friends, talk trash to fellow gamers or catch up with acquaintances via Skype for PSP system."

Trash talking via PSP? Yes, it is indeed the one of the biggest things that will hit the PSP since homebrew. Actually, this feature has been hinted at several months ago in the decrypted version of PSP firmware 3.10, but its only now that we finally have confirmation that yes, gamers can now spit out trash talk towards fellow gamers using their PSPs.

More updates as we get them!

» headset? recording with PSP to follow?

first post, but who gives a flying f*ck?
really looking forward to this.
Will they release a headsetty thing for the psp?
That would be great and i'm sure some devs out there would like to use a microphone for homebrew apps. Do i hear recording device?
i know there's already a hack for it, but its a bit techy.

 » yes...

communication in the PSP... they need the PSN one too... but for me skype it will be better and hope they put skype in the PS3 too... and yeah they have a headset for that but mine was stolen or I just don't know where it is because they almost don't use it in anything...

 » PSN

The PSN is most definitely coming. There's all sorts of references to it, from XML-based code for logging into PSN servers to registry settings for PSN usernames and passwords.

 » ookkk...

I didn't saw the video... I saw it now... but why I had to see the "make calls with skype" in pause and frame by frame?... normally I can't see it... look like a subliminal message lol

 » Nice

Skype on the PSP would be awesome! I don't have a headset for PSP anyway, so I wouldn't mind buying one. It's not like you're forced to use this feature, so give it a break already. Have fun talking your friends on the DS.

 » yeah...

skype is just another instant message program but it's cool that you can talk to them... I can't talk to the msn messenger in the 360 since I remember...

Another thing that I want to see is that they finally make a keyboard for the PSP now...

 » flip!

flipping awesome! I don't play my PSP as much as i should, especially with the premium i paid for it. I'm excited for this. It'll finally justify a lot of the $ i put into my PSP. i love the whole homebrew scene, I'm sure this will be a welcome addition. Can't wait to get into this. I hope that we don't have to use specific sony-only hardware. these accessories from sony tend to be decent but never worth it for the price.
