Many have come to wonder if the PSP is a dying platform. After all, we haven't seen that many games this year (although we have seen some great ones like Patapon and God of War: Chains of Olympus), and we haven't heard of that many games announced to appear this year in E3. Even the homebrew scene isn't as noisy as it was before. So is the PSP a dying platform? Sony's Director of Hardware Marketing, John Koller, begs to differ. I'm predisposed to agree with his sentiments. Koller says that PSP sales are still "red hot." In fact, sales have gone up 87% since the Slim's launch last September. If it's the line-up of games that you're worried about, though, don't worry, Koller also says that: Our worldwide studio team is actively developing titles for that platform and we've been on a road show amongst every, major third-party publisher [...] and have been talking to them about really how to publish on the PSP, and the level of excitement is really palpable. I think in talking to [third-party publishers], and seeing some of the gameplay and even talking about some of the franchises that they're going to bring over, it's a good time to be a PSP owner. [...] Starting at the back half of this year and continuing into next year, we're going to see a very good lineup of quality franchise titles coming over to the PSP that are really unique. You're not going to see many ports anymore, and I think that's good. Also something to look forward to in the future is how Sony will further integrate the PlayStation 3 and the PSP. According to Koller, if the PlayStation 3 is being marketed as your living room entertainment hub, then the PSP is your living room "on the go": We're going to see a lot more integration with PlayStation 3, particularly as the install base of the PS3 continues to grow [...] The integration that is going to occur there is part and parcel of the strategy that the console is the living room hub and really where your entertainment flows. Then, your PSP is your digital living room on the go, and being able to access your PS3 in a wide variety of ways is really a key part of our overall branding strategy. That's going to be something that you're going to see expanded on in future firmware updates and other things. |

...still waiting
yup still waiting here..... getting bored....
maybe try out this before i bored to death...
http://exmafia.com/register.php?REF+4877
WHERE THE ***** IS THE GAMES???
Really the PSP libary sucks! theirs like only 1 or 2 games that's great on it.
Get your finger outta of your ass.
Are you retarded? PSP has over 1100 games, even the most picky tastes would have a couple dozen they'd like by now. I own 40 PSP games.
Maybe if people actually started to by their games, developers would have more of an incentive to develop games.
Sadly, this is what piracy does to consoles/handhelds. If you pirate, you have no right to say anything on the matter.
and where is the 1100 games at? Every wal-mart and gamestop around here only got like 10 on their stores.
no shet...
you expect walmart to carry ALL 1100+ games??
do you realize how long it would take to sell all of those??
i mean use your common sense. they would logically carry the newest and hottest games. obviously you're not a 100 watt bulb, or for that matter even a 30. but seriously man, they wouldn't even have space for 100 games. think before you speak next time please.
don't give a sh*t about what "Binary" says, he's just a troublemaker.
No I not expecting them to carry 100 of them. I expecting them to atleast have more then 5-10 games. There is plenty of shelf space for them.
Game-stop with just 5-10 PSP games, come'on man we might believe your lies if you made them believable. Everyone on this board has been to Gamestop before, probably wondered why they have soo many PSP games. At the Gamestop by my house they have more than 10 UMD movies. Besides I find it hard to believe they don't have 10 USED PSP games.
But man Sony we need more games man :D more games like FF7CC and maybe a Diablo port that will be awsome to see :)
play diablo via pops. but i agree with everyone, need more games.
What can SONY do? If their handheld is being targeted by Piracy. Why should 3rd party developers, like Square Enix, develop games, invest money and hard work into it, when all people do is pirate their work?
The more piracy, the less profits. Less profits + less appeal to the handheld by 3rd party developers.
i love my psp... but the games... >_< psp needs more rpg... even the nintendo ds, with less power than the psp, graphics based, has good games...
and what about all the psp users out there who dont own a ps3?... i own a ps2 and a x360... not planning on buying a ps3... all sony is going to do is make the psp-ps3 more compatible... instead of doing that release a new firmware with new flash support and some other applications... not crappy internet search stuff... blah...
PSP is not starting to suck at all, of course the DS has some good games, it better by now. PSP has tons more though. PSP is still getting non-PS3 features, and you won't see a new flash update till ADOBE makes one, not Sony. Adobe won't let other companies touch their code, and haven't updating their release for non-x86 processors. You may not like the internet search but lots of people do. Google suggested it to Sony because lots of people use Google on PSP.
What? Have you not looked up a game list for the PSP? Almost every other game out for it is an RPG. Seriously, I got my PSP at launch, and I still can't find the time to play all the RPGs I have wanted to play on the handheld.
I agree more RPGs would be nice, but they are definitely not needed.
That is sony :)
"Our product could be way better, but we will make you wait for it."
I swear...
Wait wait wait..blah sounds like their promise's has failed.
shuddup binary, make a comany yourself.
The idea sony has is that they will keep adding features to the PSP-PS3 intergration so people will go out and buy a PS3. Its a simple marketing strategy!
if the fact that PS3s are ridiculously expensive kind of puts that into an interesting perspective.
Yea, too bad for the people who buy it at release, they get shafted with a piece of *****!
And end up looking forward to updates all the time...
to beable to view my ps3 on my psp (NOT EVEN CONTROL IT. just use it as a tv of sorts) that way i can play my ps3 anywhere in my house thx to the bluetooth controller that would be sweet
I own 10 games for the psp that I only bought this year Feb 2008 and I think the Psp will do very well this year.
I use my PSP for Music, games and surfing the web.
The PSP rocks!!:)
Yes, PSP is a great concept, but developers blame Sony for making Piracy so easy on the platform (though they won't say it publically) and if Sony can't even name one franchise before E3 then they must be begging studios to jump on board.
Of course, in Japan there are some awesome games that sell like hot cakes, and if you import there are some gems to be had.
Sony needs to commit to marketing the games as well as the hardware, like Nintendo has done with the DS.
On the upside, anyone releasing a quality game will have a very large number of PSP owners to sell it to...
Oh, and we need more Limited Editions - you can't get a free artbook (Crisis Core) from a torrent. There's tons in Japan, all we get here are "bundles" - how many PSP's are we expected to buy?
The PSP is very very good protectet against piracy, in firmware AND hardware (anti piracy processor)
I hate the hackers who ruined the PSP, Sony wanted to make the perfect handheld and succeeded, it has many games at start but then DAX came....
and now everything is about CFW and homebrew....
And you can say: "The R4 cards on the DS is very populair too" The scale of piracy is much higher with the PSP.
Now everybody is screaming: "GAMES, GAMES, GAMES! AND NO SKYPE OR GO MESSENGER, WE WANT GAMES!" But wasn't eveybody waiting for Skype on the PSP? Sony DOES listen to the customer, people.
And now Sony is making 3rd party developers make games for the PSP and PS3 but the customers or must I say downloaders want games NOW! It takes time to make games, and I know if everybody would buy games like Dissidia,KH:Birth By Sleep and Midnight Club:LA (a good example of SONY wanting it to come to the PSP. why would rockstar wanting it on the PSP?) then the U.S. and the E.U. will get games like MH:2ndG, Japanese people are the perfect gamers because they buy there games.
And then Tomb raider Underworld will be ported to the PSP. The sites like PSPISO and PSPISOZ must be removed and there must be a fight against piracy.
LET THE PSP SURVIVE!
sony did b4 the hackers (and dont count the ps1 emu cuz popsloader was better )
the hackers MADE the psp scene what it is ...... even if there were no longer games coming out for psp sont could realease the new ultra lite/slim psp (no umd mayb no nub) and it would still sell lke hotcakes as long as it was hackable (***** id buy 1) hell if it had a built in hard drive it would prolli beat out ipod!!
"Japanese people are the perfect gamers because they buy there games. "
Umm hello? wazzim. i've been to Japan and stayed there for 1 year. OMG! the japanese people are soooo rich men! i hav japanese friends and guess what? they also download ISOs and still buy games. My friend there has the ISO version of FFVIICC and "STILL" bought the UMD. He said game on memory stick is much more convenient than UMD because 1) the loading is faster than UMD 2) consume way less battery power 3) carry multiple games at once. The UMD driver of his psp(place to put the UMD) he does not use it for its intended purpose, Instead he put a foam and inside that foam has "FIVE" 8 gigabyte memory sticks! its packed with games, homebrew apps music etc etc! NOT including the memory stick inserted on the psp. so thats all "SIX" 8gb memory sticks all in all! I saw his collection of umds and so far he only bought the best titles. as for the others...u know what he does. Team M33 is amazing! and lastly he said that themes on CFW are superb(CXMB themes) he laughs on the official themes..
That's awesome, but piracy isn't. If the PSP ever had a premature death, piracy was what killed it. It's pretty dumb how that feature (playing ISOs) was allowed in the first place, no matter what reason DAX or anyone else had for it. All the people who enabled it knew that people would eventually pirate all games, but they let it stick anyway. I used to pirate myself, but not on a grand scale. I got bored, then realized what I was doing, and quit.
Honestly, you had enough money to buy the system, but not enough to buy any games for it? Oh, but you had enough money to buy that $50 2gb memory stick to fit some pirated games on. It's just ridiculous, and NO ONE who pirates can say ANYTHING to defend themselves. Either way it goes, you're stealing money from the devs, Sony, the stores, and anyone else involved. And you're killing the system that you're playing them on. Hope you're happy.
/rant
i actually pirated one game once because i have the umd (yes its still illegal) and wanted it on my memstick . i have no interest in new games for my psp because i alrede have a handfull of good games that never get old (gta x 2, lumines, metal gear PO, GOW)
dont blame DAX .... he included it because he would prefer for the iso loader to be built in work well. than risk some one making a eboot one and all it is , is a bricker.
It all depends on the user! Like in good hands playing your copy of monster hunter freedom as ISO cuts down load time from 5-8 seconds between zones to 1-3 seconds. So I use UMD dumper and copy it to my stick if I'm going to play it for a while. In evil hands they'll download a CSO copy of MHF at max compression and actually increase the load time to 8-15 seconds and complain cause the game sucks for load times.
Think before you pirate! Support the companies you enjoy.
it would be great if they brought out a psp with 2 (& better) analogue sticks and l2 and r2 buttons, a large hard drive (80/120gig?), more battery life and had the online store filled with every successful game ever on the psx, not just 20 or so, and all psp games for download, It would gr8 to have ps2 compatibility somehow. and also have a music store and video store online as well.
It would be cheaper to publish online, making games cost a lot less, which might encourage people to purchase. but here's the catch- they would need to make copying games impossible, which means you could only transfer files from playstation network or from your own CD/DVD/bluray collection something like that. when you buy a game
in-store, you would plug your psp usb into a machine which makes sure you have the hard disk space, and saves the game on your psp in like 10 seconds. if you run out of space, you save the game on your ps3 or synch it with the PCorPs3 playstation store and download it next time. each psp would have an ID, and only that psp can use the game.
a ps3p imagine dual analog sticks/nubs l2 r2, home button
hd screen built in flash hard drive (from 5 gb to 60 gb )
AND THE ABILITY TO PLAY ANY PS3 GAME (provided you own a ps3)
hell it wouldnt even need its own game it could just piggy back using bluetooth/wifi
imagine gta4/mgs4 anywhere in your house/ anywhere with good wifi
if my pc can steam games samlessly to my psp why cant my ps3 do the same
i would gladly pay 500+
psp can play ps1 titles off your ps3 hard disk (remote play) but ive never been able to get it working with games, only xmb- apparently you can even play it half way round the globe as long as youve got your ps3 on standby and got good internet speed, but yeh doing it with ps3 games should definately be possible, you're just streaming video to your psp and control input to your ps3. this wont work until we get more internal memory a hard drive - mem stick is too slow
Oviously the PSP is the best Handheld Machine Ever made, U think Companies are going to stop making games cu'z people pirated them?! Well on a part yes! But there's always people doesn't know a crap of CFW and they buy games, also people that doesn't care about this, and buy games.
If Sony keeps doing games like APE QUEST, that u buy on Sony Store and have to buy the 3 Package (Yellow, Red and Blue) that have a Special Encrypted ID attached to the USER Login Information and PSP Serial #, it can be put on any PSP cu'z is encrypted only to be use it on that PSP.
If Sony makes the Whole games like that, there will be less piracy and more new games on the sale. U know some kind of ID Recognition, that u go to any store that PSP games are sell and u need a Special Account(like a Card of the store to buy games) so it have your PSP Mac Address, serial Number, Mother Board Model No., Authentic IPL, Authentic IDStorage and NAMD Authentification. So all this stuff have to be Unmodified or changed, this way they sell u the game with a special encryption and if u change a # or something on your PSP, u will not able to play it, also if u put it on other PSP it will not let u play on that PSP, because is not authentic. U will still have CFW, but the New UMD/ISO/CSO Games will be encrypted with the Owner's ID (PSP Authentic Data(eg Serial #, MAC address, etc.)
So if Sony invest just a little more of $$ in making Games with that kind of encryption, piracy will decrease a lot, still u will be able to have CFW and play HOMEBREW, but not to play those New Encrypted Games. Also may be sony will adapt that encryption to the PSP in a New OFW, that had more security on recognizing UMD Games or ISO, if they are legal or not, later will be hacked like some of the other OFW , but the UMD/ISO Security Encryption will be part of the PSP Flash Kernel and Removing it will cause the CFW or FW to brick. (eg, is like I take out of the Flash a Important prx of the Module , the ad_hoc.prx, u will not able to play ad_hoc and the PSP will be bricked. Also If sony makes it that if u take it out the whole System will Crash. Like that thing that the XBOX 360 does when a Screw is loose, the RED light of Death... Anyways...
About the New PSP.
I been thinking i a Whole new design for the PSP, a New PSP,
.Much Slimmer that the Original PSP and the Slim.
.A well Rounded New external design.
.NA Joystick, instead a new System Called T.S.P. (Touch Sensitive Pressure) Even more Sensitive that it was:
Like that thing the IPOD has when u swing your finger on the Round thing the volume goes up and down.
Well two of those things for the NEW PSP2
(@ [ ] @) ( 2 T.S.P.) Sensitive Joypad# 1 and directional pad on the left. On the right Joypad # 2 and [ ], X, / & ( ) buttons.
But instead of Volume up and down will be X, Y & Z Coordinates that when u swing up,down, left, right, diagonal up left, diagonal up right , diagonal down left, diagonal down right in both will act as Sensitive Joy pad and when u press up, down, left & right it will act as the Directional pad on the left of the Handheld and when u press on the right it will act as Buttons. When u use a control or PSP U just use your Thumbs to move and to press buttons. So u swing on the Sensitive Joypad 1 to move and swing on sensitive joypad 2 to look (like Joysticks on the Playstation Control)
When u need to use the up button just press instead of swinging and u need to use X button just press instead of Swinging on the Joy pad, U see U just use your Thumbs to play. Two Side buttons will be added too L1,L2 and R1,R2.
Just the two buttons on the left will be L 2 next to L1 not on back like the Original PS2, 3 controller. same with the R1 and R2 buttons.
.It can be Touch Screen.
.It can have one 2.0 Mega Pixel Camera above the LCD Screen.
.One 8.0 Mega Pixel on the Left Back.
.Integrated Mic on the bottom Front part (Under LCD Screen) and another Mic on the right front side.(For Cellphone Mode.
.Will be adapted to have Virtual Credential for Any Cellphone Compa
go buy a cellphone.
