Sony's game division loses money, but not as much as last year - Image 1

Last year, Sony's gaming division saw a huge operating loss that cost them JP¥ 232 billion (US$ 2.2 billion). This year, Sony's overall profit increased but they're posting another loss with their gaming division, although the amount is considerably better than last year's.

Reuters reports that Sony saw its operating loss shrink by about JP¥ 100 billion (US$ 948,000). This still leaves them with a JP¥ 132 billion loss (US$ 1.52 billion), but that's still a big jump from last year.  It's likely only a matter of time before we see that amount turn around. Sony's had a good start to 2008, having outsold the Xbox 360 for both January and February.

Sony on the whole saw an operating profit of US$ 3.6 billion. Although they missed their own forecast, their profit still increased fivefold. The increase is attributed to strong sales of digital cameras.
