Ready At Dawn Studios - Image 1

"It doesn't depend on Nintendo or Microsoft - it depends on them." That's what Ready At Dawn Studios president Didier Malenfant told GamesIndustry.biz in an interview. Although for the most part he had been pointing out that the PSP was a great platform to work on, he also stressed the fact that the console giant's success will be determined by it's own actions.

He explained the many difficulties in entering the next-generation console market, the huge amount of money needed and how the transition of technology and equipment will be trying and slow at best. He said, "Next-gen involves a lot of money, it's a big investment, and it's going to be a difficult time of transition whether you're Microsoft or Sony."

Malenfant did admit that Sony's image dropped some notches recently, but he elaborates that most number one companies also suffer image degradation. "You can see that with Microsoft with operating systems - after a while, you become the favourite target, " he further explained.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the competition has been gaining blessings from Sony's negative publicity. Microsoft, for one, has been able to hide most of the fact that the Xbox 360 isn't selling much either. He later added, "[The Xbox 360] didn't really have any good games until Gears of War came out."

Ready At Dawn Studios produced a PSP-exclusive title, Daxter, some time ago and is now working with Sony on a new PSP game. Malenfant said that if the studio goes into next-gen development, it won't exactly be aiming for the PS3. "It all depends on the prospect. It could be PS3 or 360 or both," he claimed.

Why would anyone invest in Microsoft or Sony. PS3 is going to bomb. Games are 2 expensive for both game designers and players. Microsoft has worse games than the ps3 ever will. xbox360 has the best online play. The ps3 might turn out to be good but the blue ray player sucks. ps2 dvd player was horrible too. The wii is doing the best at this time but the graphics suck. ______________________________________ Personally i own a ps2 and wii. My brother owns a ps3 and gc. The psp is my favorite console right now if i can call it that.

"but the graphics suck."

Graphics do NOT make games great, however. It makes it look nice, but not good. And Wii Graphics are fine, besides, it's all about the fun of the games, not the freakin' graphics. :

 » Blue Ray

The blue ray player doesn't suck. In fact, the PS3 is the best Blue Ray player on the market. Look up the reviews of its media functions. Most people forget that the PS2 got the same ***** when it got released(too expensive, games cost too much to make etc etc). But the fact is that once the developers adapt to the new platform it doesn't cost as much to make games for it. Look at the quality difference from PS1 to PS2. We had developers crying about how expensive it was to make games for it. Well guess what, now that everyone knows how to work with the hardware, its not so expensive anymore. Most people will grumble about the fact that Sony is forcing you to buy a blue ray player. Whats the big problem with that? As a games device you can never have too much storage space on the media. Do you have any idea how much space textures(with normal maps) take up these days? Do you want all your future games to come out on 10 DVDs?

Please insert Disc 4 to continue.

 » PS3 BD player sucks?

have you seen it on a 1080P set? Or are you just assuming like most fanboys of anything! I know a 360 fanboy who believes that the cost of getting a core 360 then the HDD and component cables costs the same as getting the preimium when it costs $70 MORE to go the core route. thats the price of a GAME. Honestly no one really knows what they're talking about anymore and just assume. Thats why america is getting *****ing bombed by terrorists is because they see hollywood and say OHH THATS BAD! LETS DESTROY IT! when the rest of the countries just like WTF! and then theres people who are just idiots and just re-inforce these terrorists things. the media sucks! What's happening in africa. Dont know? Just poverty, death etc. But who cares about that! as long as theres no wars theres no interest acording to the media. Before i get flammed keep in mind what i say is my OPINION which is based off FACT. You cant ignore the facts that A) america is suffering terrorist attacks/threats, B) terrorists are still out there and only see our media as their source of information as what america stands for, C) Africa really isnt in the news anymore because all wars have stopped. theres probably still pillaging, killing, and the like but that doesnt concern us somehow... the greater good as gone RIGHT out the flipping window!

do you really think that having a better version is really better? does the 360 version of multiplatform games squashes it counterpart on the ps3? i you think like this your just a closed minded xbot fanboy. we the ps3 users acknowledges the 360 as a great machine and dont refer to 360 games as inferior to ps3 version, its just a matter of choice as to which console is available for you to play the game with. even psp and DS games can have advantages over ps3 and x360 games , it just depends on the purpose. and about the topic, yes sony can handle and have success on its own. and just always remember, xbox 360 will always be left behind on japanese markets hence a handicap for total console domination. japanese are loyal to sony and nintendo and i doubt it will ever change. anyways i like all consoles, thats why i bought all of them, so i hope for great success over the 3 major game companies.

   Re: Seoulfood (Unregistered) - 2007-02-14
 » also

Gears of War is what made the x360 into the capable machine it is perceived to be now. Up until that point the 360 was not really seen for its next-gen potential. It was pretty much just an Xbox 1.5. Fight Night and Dead Rising were cool games, but they are not what people believed should be next gen. Then Gears came to the 360 pretty much out of nowhere, leaps and bounds above anything else that had come out for it previously, and still leaps and bounds over anything that has come out after it. This is really the first game you can be assured, that 360 owners take pride in. And rightfully so.

 » Xbox 360 games

The 360 didn't get any attention literally until Gears of War. Plus, i see Xbox 360's on shelves a lot more often than the PS3. Even though it's been out over a year, and PS2 still outsells the 360. I mean, if EVERYONE wants a 360, then why are they so easy to find? Only around 10 million avilable world wide, almost 2 milllion PS3's available in Japan and N. America, so don't you think people are saving up for the PS3? I think so since 360 is so easy to find and if it were that great, why do you care so much about the PS3?

   Re: uh-huh (Unregistered) - 2007-02-14
 » thats correct...no good games!

No good games on the 360 is absolutely right! PGR 3 and Gears are really good games ...and that's t! I own 7 games for the 360 and all of them but these 2 suck eggs. I also own all 3 next gen systems as well as PSP and a DS Lite. I play them all, my PSP the most and my 360 the least. IMO the 360 is really a last gen and a half system, not next gen. I am really disappointed by the 360, as I am thus far with the PS3( because of the crappy games, not the console itself, which is truly amazing!)I guess I will continue p[laying my Wii and nPSP until some truly great games come out for the 360 and the PS3, although I have just about reached the 'give-up' point for the 360.

 » Xbox360 fanboys love bashing the PS3

I own both a Xbox360 and a Playstation 3 and I purchased both of them during their launch. I enjoy both system and I am not a huge "fanboy" of either, just a person who loves to play games. I find most of the "Playstation 3 bashing" is done by Xbox360 fanboys and it is starting to get real annoying to everyone. Sure the Playstation 3 has its issues, but so did the Xbox360...so lets the facts straight.

The Playstation 3 are overheating!!!. Yes the Playstation 3 run hot, but so does the Xbox360! A recent comparison on the web measured the temperatures around the both consoles and found the air around the Xbox360 is hotter than the air around the Playstation 3.

The Playstation 3 has no upscaler chip!!!!
Wrong, with the latest release of the Playstation 3 SDK for game developers, the upscaler chip was revealed. Only Sony knows why they did not reveal this chip to designers sooner.

The Playstation 3 is easy to get "fried". Sure all systems have "failure rates". I not saying the Playstation 3 is higher or lower than the Xbox360 but can anyone here remember the "Red Ring of Death" for the Xbox360?

The Playstation 3 cannot background download. True for now, but with the 1.60 firmware update due out in March, the Playstation 3will be able to do that. It took Mircosoft almost 9 months to implement that feature on the Xbox360 while it only took Sony 5 months.

The Playstation 3 has piss-poor selection of games. True for now (except for Resistance: Fall of Man), but Perfect Dark Zero was a real piece of crap for the Xbox360 launch. Everyone has to give any console at least 1 year for the games to really start coming out.

The Playstation 3 is over-priced!!!
That depends, feature for feature the Playstation 3 it the best value for your buck. If you compare the 60gig version to the Xbox360 premium console and add the extras to the Xbox360 (Wifi $100, HD-DVD $200, Plug N Charge $30.00, 60 gig HD $$???) you will find that you are paying more for the Xbox360 than the Playstation 3. I did not add that $60/year for Xbox-Live where as the Playstation Network is Free.

The Playstation Network sucks!!!
Right now the Playstation Network has no where near the features that Xbox-Live has. Sony has stated that it is committed to have the best service for free. For online play, it is excellent. Playing Resistance: Fall of Man with 40 players an little or no lag is awesome.

I could go on and on but then I would appear like a "Sony Fanboy". If you really love your Xbox360, than you should be playing it instead of bashing something you really know nothing about.

Very True. Sony image did suffer with all the "Playstation 3 bashing" that was being posted on the net. The points you made are valid since I also own an Xbox360 and a Playstation 3 and I do agree with your opinion. The Playstaion 3 future lies totally in Sonys hand, not Microsoft or Nintendo.
With a bit more of marketing and a few killer games for the Playstation 3, the Playstation 3 should be a success. Maybe not as big as the Playstation 2 but still a success.

»  » WTF READ THE NEWS STORY YOUR POST IS POINTLESS reply

If your read my post correctly, you will read that I do indeed own an Xbox360! What I was getting at was no matter what "news" is posted on the Net about the Playstation 3, you will always find a few Xbox360 fans bashing the Playstation 3.
Yes I do love my Xbox360 and also my Playstation 3.
If you do own a Xbox360 and a Playstation 3 (like I do) then you can see how these PS3 issues are "over-rated"...unless your a Xbox360 fanboy which you appear to be. Get off Billy Gates lap and learn how to read a post properly.

I agree with the facts you bring up, and that pointless bashing is pretty silly, but I also agree that you bring up an issue that is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand. The reason I made that post was to the section in the article...."Furthermore, he pointed out that the competition has been gaining blessings from Sony's negative publicity.  » read the story...now for a talk

I have a ps3, don't have a 360 but my room mate had one so I'm very familiar with it. I'm not a fanboy of either...I do have to give Xbox props for their online interface though. Side by side, I would have to say that the ps3 is the better of the two - not because of what it does now - but what it can do. I installed Fedora Core linux on it recently and it's amazing. The xbox cannot do that without a modchip which hasn't even been built yet. Sony's always had a bad habit of limiting their hardware but it seems as if they're breaking themselves of that bad habit with the factory ability to install another OS. That being said, not everyone knows enough to install linux and I think even fewer are willing to take the "risk"....I say "risk" because technically there isn't any - you can reformat the partitioned hdd if you screw up and I don't fully understand how one could, especially with the Fedora Core kernel because it's so easy. If you have the guide from their website essentially anyone can do it, they just have to be immune to being intimidated by binaries and things they definately don't understand except that it will give you an operating system similar to windows, in a very general sense. If Sony were to release an operating system specific to the PS3 they would be in big business because it would no longer be up to open-source developers to tackle the next-gen transition on their own.
The big advantage to adding linux to your system is that you can completely control your console...I can turn mine into a media center complete with 1 terabyte of space for backed up movies and games (see youtube), I can stream those to other computers or consoles equipped with linux in the house - in short, one breaks down the barrier between a computer and a console.

   Re: LinuxJackal (Unregistered) - 2007-02-14
 » I agree

Most Xbox360 owners do not know what Linux is. I use Linux everyday and have gone over 4 years without using Windows or Mac PCs. Linux is a great feature for the Playstation 3 and I am surprised that the media did not pick up on it. Linux today is ready for the desktop and the PS3 might be a tool to help people learn more about it.

Gears of War is the best game on the 360. Just think of how many copies of Halo 3 will sell. I love Sony, Microsoft, And Nintendo. In my OPINION the 360 is the best. Im not saying the Ps3 is bad but the price is to much. The Ps3 has only one good game (so far) called "Fall of Resistence" (or some sort), But the 360 isnt done producing more great games like gears of war.
