Max Power Digital - Image 1Datel has just revealed that Sony is taking legal action against their service mode battery that advertised itself as a PSP-3000 hacking tool. This is following news of Datel's pulling out of the battery - the Lite Blue Tool - and changing its product description.

Actual specifics of the court case weren't revealed, however, this is the statement issued by Datel to PortableVideoGamer, in response to a query about why the orders for the battery haven't arrived yet:

Due to legal action by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe we are currently not able to fulfil orders for the Lite Blue Tool Battery. Any orders received for this product have not been processed and no charges have been made. We will inform customers about availability of this product when this situation has been resolved.

Current speculation over why Sony's taking legal action against Datel holds that they're building the case on the grounds that Datel is using proprietary source code from Sony (i.e. copyright infringement). Supposedly, it's this code that's used on the Lite Blue Tool that allows the "unlocking" of the PSP-3000. If Sony is now building their case on it, they could potentially say that Datel is infringing on their copyright because of their using of the software encryption key.

Thanks to Muffinly Bliss for the heads up!

 » What?

I thought it didn't do anything proving that it doesn't use any of Sony's copyrighted software.

The new motherboards require a battery that has an encrypted chip. They cracked and copied Sony's encryption. Then they tried to sell it in the battery. Just because it didn't have a use yet, doesn't mean they can't get sued. Cracking encryption and selling it is a bad idea.

 » Datel datel datel......Sucks

Datel had it coming, besides the fact that the new Lite Blue Battery is useless to unlock the PSP-3000 because all it does is put the PSP in service mode, but nothing else.

Thats why no one has been able to crack the PSP-3000 because of the IPL code which has to be cracked in order to inject the CFW. like in the PSP-2000 and fat.

Datel, your a lier and a scamer! tricking people in actually believing u guys have the key to unlock the PSP-3000

this is a plot by datel to get publicity.

They couldnt meet their order quota. So they made up the lawsuit story. this serves 2 purposes.

1) It makes all the doubters out there say that it MUST be legit, otherwise why would sony take them to court over something that doenst do anything anyway

2) It gives them a more legit reason why they havnt shipped the orders than just saying they forgot to run that shift that makes them on time.

thats totally what i was thinkin when i was reading the story... it would be soo funny if sony just comes out and is like... uhh no we didnt... ROFL

No problem. I saw it and I just had to share it. I also sent it to G4TV.com to see if they would respond to it. But its pirating issues, they may not care. Lol.

Also there is no space in MuffinlyBliss. :P I find this terribly funny and ironic.

 » its not

pirating issue, it's stealing their info and selling it. NOT PIRACY just illegal. I hope they go out of businaess, I HATE DATEL. Frackin homebrew stealing call it their own basturds

 » Ha

Datal just got pwnt.

I'm glad it happened, after they leeched off the the hard work of Pandora, and failed to supply all information about their "Red Tool" (the fact it wouldn't work without the files). Now its come to the turn of the Blue Tool and Sony has some dirt on them... even if its late they've got their just desserts.

The PSP-3000 could still potientally be cracked using a Pandora'fied battery if someone discovers what exactly needs changing, and if they could also crack the new IPL... personally though I'm happy to see exploits again, has that race feel it had in the old days. (Hackers v Sony)

Honestly all they did was rip off of the idea of pandora and they probably didn't give team C+D any percentage of the sales even though it was their idea. Im glad datels getting sued.

 » LOL PWN

They had it coming trying to profit off a FREE OE community >_> but still, if ithose reasons are valid, then the battery actually DID service mode the PSP brite. maybe whoever has a lite blue can find a way to pandora a normal battery again :P

they saw the warnings, they saw the signs but they kept on walking...

 » i wonder

regardless of how much of copycat datel is, they have some achievements in the ps2/psp/whatever community - they were the first ones to make memento (despite what they claim about "russian hackers", i think was datel all-right), it took psx-scene folks quite a lot of time to recreate their solution, and make it free.

datel made first ps2-compatible memory cards that worked out of the box with ps2 (by allegedly reverse-engineering magic gate).

they do have some credit for some of their products. they steal from homebrew community, they reverse-engineer sony's protections. sometimes homebrew community returns the favor ;-)

i think that's the way it is. they probably came with some ideas on their own, and copied the rest. too bad they don't give credit where it's due (as with their service mode psp batteries).

the thing about sony's lawsuit - if it has been proven that it does not work with psp3k - i guess it's a marketing stunt. or something along the lines.

did it all first long before datel. go t
read a few hundred articles on here before you post about this again. And I called Sony to ask em about this(just phoned) and they said they ARE in the process of legal conversation with Datel. So you're F*ked Datel. F**Ked

» They got what was coming..

What did they expect they released two hacking tools that effectively enable piracy in a console owned by a company with one of the best lawyers in the world. Pretty stupid idea on datels side if you ask me.

   by ahnp - 2009-01-12
 » ha

ill believe this when it comes from sony hr, they never proved they got it working and this could be a con on us all, if the god da says its not possible like that ill take his word, hes brought much more than datel and all they did was commercialize his work without his blessing, chance are it is possible and itll take someone like da to do it but while people exploit his work like this i dont blame him for not wanting to know, he gave it to us all free, his time, his coding, and they stole it to make a profit,p.s. i know their was more than da on the battery and this goes out to everyone involved with it, your work has been great even with what their doing its just letting everyone know its free when everyone stop stealing your *****

   by ahnp - 2009-01-12
 » sorry i didnt c above

but its what they deserve, their making a profit on hacking these thing, bit like all these companys that get hefty jail time for producing hacked consoles, they are doing this themselves and it would be wrong of the justice system to not make an example of them

 » morons

im sure ill get flamed for this ..... but SERIOUSLY, "im glad datels getting sued". are you kids THAT ignorant? havent any of you read that it requires a batter with an ENCRYPTED CHIP to put a psp3k into service mode? last i checked the average gamer doesnt have manufacturing facilities in his mommies basement that can produce batteries with ENCRYPTED CHIPs. so, me personally (and likely anyone else with brains enough to think before posting) this is a blow to US currently. and by US i mean those of us who use CFWs. so what if a company decided to mass produce them and sell them. i understand its copyright infringement, but did any of you notice how many people made a buck off of the pandora battery? people were selling them on ebay, selling theirservices on ebay, crap setting up whole new businesses based on their new free "abilities".

anyways grow up and quit hating on datel because they did what none of us could afford to do. true they may lose out, but now not only do we not have a CFW for psp3k, but we dont even have a service battery yet. its a shame datel wont get to ship these.

Why didn't Dark Alex or team m33 get sue when they actually did some harm to Sony's business. Datel doesn't do any harm

   by baronmotorsports - 2009-01-13
 » Pandora Services

Dark Alex didnt steal encrypted copyright files thats why. Also lexbian I am positive you are a child trying to act like an adult but to the point, some kid in his mothers basement? Stereotyping much and yea we did make a few bucks off providing our Pandora Services, I made like 0 and it wasnt illegal at the time because no laws were broken this goes for EULA and the Copyright laws. For the 1k and 2k putting them into Service mode did not include hacking the encryption it was simply a matter of redirecting the IPL. Another note Datel did not do this for publicity they lied screwed themselves royally by saying on the product that it was a decrypted code and what does that mean it means this "Hey Sony I stole youre stuff come sue my ass".

   by baronmotorsports - 2009-01-13
 » Datel is *******

I just called them heres what they said, "Sir, I am sorry but I am not authorized to reveal private company information but if youd like visit www.us.playstation.com to see if there is a press release about it" So obviously Sony didnt release anything thats why I called you jack***. Secondly Datel you are so ******* I mean hardcore *******. My bad that was there response in quotations to my question are you pending legal action in response to Datel's Lite Blue Tool that allegedly stole Coyrighted files?
