Square's gift to the PSP: Final Fantasy I scans

Remember what we said earlier that this year may prove prosperous for the PSP? It seems that Square Enix believes in good fortune too, as we pick up images of Final Fantasy I for the PSP. Yes, loyal fans - we are now looking at early (and rather fuzzy) magazine scans of the game.

And the "20th anniversary" label adds weight to the evidence - old timers may remember the original NES title launching back in 1987. Given that the DS already has Final Fantasy III under its belt, we are very relieved to see an another classic land on the PSP. At this point, the game seems to use the old combat system we've seen since its NES incarnation until Dawn of Souls for the GBA. We'll let you know if we can pick up more detailed info for this title.

It seems that a lot of hard-hitting RPG titles are (finally) making their way to the PSP. We have Crisis Core coming up, as well as the Lion War title that complements Revenant Wings. And as a crowning glory, we've got Dark_Alex's 3.02 OE-B which now allows your PSP to run on PSOne titles - can you say FF Tactics, VII, VIII and IX? We'd like to thank Martin8me for this breaking PSP news. Hoist him on your shoulders, fellas!

Last note: It's pretty hard to see which Japanese mag these scans came from. Could somebody tell us which one it is?

hi i got ff antology on ps1 and i play it on my psp lol
square enix will use the psone version for the psp (with remade graphics and sound) and they wont sell the twoo in the same time...
and you will never see ff in ps store...

I think you should also include Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition, it is confirmed that FF II will be also remade for PSP!

By the way, on the magazine scan, it said "this is the FIRST surprise" (not literally). That means we can expect more to come, but, I just hope our favourite PSP will get more treat from SE.

This is probably because you're not old enough (and I don't mean that in a negative way) but I used to play FFI for hours everyday. It was the one of the greatest RPG's that existed for the NES. If you grew up with SNES at your disposal, then I can see why NES games are kinda boring and stupid, but as an original Final Fantasy fan, FFI is not lame. Although I admit that the only way I would ever buy yet another release of it is if they released 1-6 (including Mystic Quest) on one disc.

I DID grow up with SNES, and the thing is, FF was great for back then because it presented what no other games did (i could seriously throw mario games out the window after seeing this) BUT this doesnt change the fact that the plot isn't as engrossing as the later FF's.

Yeah SLIGHTLY revamped graphics from the NES? 2D... YES CAN't WAIT!!!

Bar the 2D originals it was SONY who really made square, and especially the playstation platform. Should really try better i think they deserve a killer game, not *****ing FF1 again, jesus

Hey what's wrong with it I'm a fan of the FF series since the 7th up to the 10th but I have not played the other parts of the series... improved graphics will surely make it more bearable playing because I don't think i'll be interested in playing it with GBA graphics or lower so this is good news.

I can already play a FF I remake ony my psp lol and have already beat it. All we want from you S-E is a remake of FF VII thats all no more crappy spinoffs or port of older FF just give us a FF VII remake then you can work on new games not ports or crappy spinoffs.

I've only played FF7 and up and this is good news for me because now I can get a chance to play these two. This will obviously be the better versions too with the enhancements. Not sure why everyone is whining, when we should just be glad square is supporting the psp and not releasing yet another game on ds.

You must not have a psp with homebrew because then you could play FF I and II remakes with all the enchanements and what not for free right now. Its not a total make over like they did with FF III for the ds its just a port of the gba FF I+II Dawn of Souls which was just a port of FF Origins of the ps1.

I'm not into homebrew, nor will I probably ever will. I'm not going to buy a gba advance for this or buy/or order the orgins ps1 game. If it's a port of a port, so what. Port are made to milk a game for money AND to give other console owners a chance to play a game they couldn't otherwise have a chance to play.

Whoever asked, yeah, thats the layout and design from Famitsu. The biggest giveaway is the little shadowbox that says 'PSP' and has details regarding the game in it. Also, there really is only one games magazine in Japan that gets the scoops.
