StrmnNrmn and Daedalus - Image 1

You'd be amazed on what sort of epiphanies you can get while you're on public transportation, i.e. the train, the tube, or the subway. Homebrew developer StrmnNrmn had such an epiphany - and it's really good since it concerns optimizing his Dynarec Engine.

Of course, faster and more efficient are always good and we all know that the trusty dev is all for that. StrmnNrmn was on his way to work when a couple of improvements dawned on him. The first one involves simplifying the code of the mechanism that keeps "track of pending events", while the second involves splitting "the function I was calling to do this testing into two different versions".

We know not all of you are really interested with the icky techie stuff, but rest assured that it all means that StrmnNrmn is working on it. The dev has reported "an overall 10-15% speedup over R12" with the current optimizations he's been implementing. In conclusion, here's something from the dev:

I'm quite excited about the progress I've made so far with R13. I still have lots of ideas for other optimisations I want to implement for R13 which I'll talk about over the coming days. I don't have any release date in mind for R13 at the moment, so there's no point in asking me yet :)

Patience is a virtue, kids. If you'd like to check out StrmnNrmn's complete Dynarec Improvement post, feel free to scoot on over to his blog by clicking the Read link below.

Oh, and we'd like to thank Grav3Mine for the tip!

This is a NEW and IMPROVED online way of making EASY/FREE MONEY this one has alot more features with alot more ways of making money online.. you gotta try it and see.
SWATcash - Where the checks they fire are never blank!
Great, fun site with a friendly community and nice helpful admins over there. This is a GPT site that pays via paypal or check with a minimum of $15 in earnings to request payout. 20% referral commision. Extra goodies like missions and an armory and weapon shop and alliances.

Missions: When completed all missions you get extra goodies!
Armory: Buy armor and weapons to increase your atk and defense skills so people can't steal your SWATcash (not real money- that's safe with you) and you can steal others once a day for extra swatcash.

Alliances: Out of 3 alliances, you may pick one. The highest amount in avg. earnings for each alliance, as well as infiltration points (you can attack other alliances), and referrals you get extra goodies.

You can get 2 free referrals with 25 swatcash by buying the Walkie Talkies in the armory.
That got me an extra $50 in my earnings. Also the weekly contests will get you atleast $1000 plus more if you are a lucky one

 » uh no

Lets wait till the N64 emulator works, then you can talk DS....Besides, this emulator is almost perfect, why stop now. After like 3 more updates, most games will run fullspeed I bet. So why stop now and try something that will most likely not work. lol

   Re: Bob (Unregistered) - 2007-08-13
» It's never going to work well.

2 Processors on the DS, it runs faster than the N64, which is giving a lot of trouble as it is, and they still need to come up with a good way to implement the touch screen, because the games that use it properly dont sit around and wait for you.

I think aiming for the DS is a bit too high. Theres a difference between a same gen competitor, and a console that's about 12 years old now.

Still, if any devs are willing to prove me wrong, go ahead. I wont personally be using it because I prefer how the DS feels, and I dont think controls can replace a touch screen very well, but it should be interesting to see how it works out.

WHAT ABOUT CONKERS BAD FUR DAY???PLEASE MAKE THAT GAME COMPATIABLE!!!ITS THE ONLY N64 GAME I REALLY CARE ABOUT!!PLEASE STRMNNRMN!!!!THAT WOULD MAKE THE EMULATER LIKE 10 TIMES BETTER!!

No, making it 30% faster would make it 10x better, while adding that game would at the very least make it 2x worse.
   by X (Unregistered) - 2007-08-13
 » nice

StrmnNrmn, let me just say that you are the man. I bet if you started making custom firmwares, it would destroy all of the others.

Keep on it.

by DS POS (Unregistered) - 2007-08-13
 » Why Not emulate it

I am sure the DS could be emulated, I don't consider it next gen, hell I dont even think of it as real current gen. Its only about as powerful than the 10 yr old n64. The PSP can run PSOne games at full speed and the DS POS is no where near as powerful as that system either!
I hope Nintendo pulls there heads out of there arses and adds power to there next Hand Held, touchscreen is nice but with no real power to make true console quality games it would be just like the DS a kiddy toy thats cheap as hell and thats why it sells!

   Re: sigh (Unregistered) - 2007-08-13
 » sigh

DS has 2 processors and totally different architecture. cmon now get real... PSX was way less powerful than the DS.

   Re: Nuuuub (Unregistered) - 2007-08-13
 » Thats just it.

The DS isn't a console, its a handheld. So its not surprising that we aren't getting 'console' graphics on the DS. Still, it'd be nice to have that kinda graphics on a handheld, although then it'd have to be really big to fit everything, or use the most advance kinds of technology >.
   by lansingone - 2007-08-13
 » funny how things changed

when he first started, people were telling him to quit and that a port of a PC N64 emu would never run right. now that it can run some games at almost full speed (with sound) nobody seems to say they were sorry for bashing on him all that time

This just in: StrmNrmn scratched his nuts. This gave him an idea to optimize the code for nut-scratching! 10% speed increase!!! Forget that he didn't release anything, or that his emulator barely runs any games, and eat the dumb story up.

Tell me when he releases a full, polished, 100% speed and compatibility emulator and I'll care. Until then, shut up and keep working at it. We love your emulator, but stop posting every little update that happens. It's F***ing Annoying.

   Re: .. (Unregistered) - 2007-08-13
 » ..

Then don't read it you f*cking retard. What do you think the story is going to be about when it says "StrmnNrmn update". If you can't make something better (which you obviously can't), then STFU you ungrateful piece of sh*t.
The world doesn't revolve around you, all of us with a brain actually care about the news.
You don't even deserve a PSP, nevermind an emulator. Spoiled b*tch. Smash your PSP and leave, it'll help the PSP scene. No one really cares about your opinion, or what you have to say. Oh, are you just jealous because you don't have any nuts to scratch? Mommy take you off breastmilk?

Have a nice day!
