David Simonsson (Recipio) has entered into our Summer Coding
Competition with a 3D racing game. The game looks wonderful and plays just as
good. When I picked up the game, I was surprised to see such an entry (3D), and
it played like butter on bread. The "kart" moved very smoothly and
hugged the corners perfectly, making me believe I am an excellent driver. Download: [Kart Racer Ultra] |

Stop saying first, and dimb things like that!
By the way the game looks preety cool! Good Job!
they have nothing better to say, than a few words... oh wait.. just 1 word. lame.
Nice job first good looking homebrew in 3d i've seen yet!
This looks great. I hope we can see more tracks soon !
cooooooool
Well done :)
good luck in the contest
Looks well for a first release, hope it goes well in the competition.
Some things I noted:
- Create a HUD or something for the info and ditch the debug screen output, it ruins the graphics!
- There are some issues with clipping, try tesselating/sub dividing your triangles to remove it (or try increasing your near z plane value in your setup)
- I didn't really feel like the kart was moving around the track, it felt more like the track was moving around the kart.
This a pretty cool hombrew game but do these sad people spend all day on this site hitting refresh every minute so when a new post is put on the site they can woot woot 1st comment im cool and i take it up the bum why not comment on the game you saddos
nice looking game, well done
all the other entries in QJ's sad little competition... my votes for you
This one should win..... This can be the PSP's very own Mario Kart replacement!
nice! hope it'll look even better in release version
did anyone else notice the illegal mps files in the KRU folder?
matthew: Illegal? I don't know what the .mps extension usually is but I couldn't get the level to load with my 3DS loader so I made a converter and converted them to my own file format. I choose to call the files .mps becouse I didn't know anything else which had the extension. So the files only contains the 3d models of the level and the player.
with psparty second and the quake game third....
cool, could some one tell me where this competition is taking place? the only one that i know of is the neo one.
this ran smooth but the graphic engine has bugs
Wow, really good!
shame the gfx engine is buggy and theres only one track....
but nothing perfect first time =)
Thanks for all the comments!
By graphic engine bugs I guess you mean the clipping insomniac197 was talking about (the ground dissappearing a little when it's close to the camera). I'm going to try to fix it.
insomniac197: Thanks for your critiques. I've already increased the near z plane value alot. If I increase it more you'll see it clip the ground. I'll look in to sub-dividing/tesslating polygon when I have the time.
I know the debug text is really unfitting. Didn't have the time to fix it before the competition ended. I'll improve the physics a little before the next release aswell. :)
this game is winning
Doesn't need more tracks it needs AI people to vs
Thats crazy. It'll be hard to compete.
I never post anywhere, but this seems like a good leap forward in homebrew for psp. To tell you the truth i feel the homebrew community is very boring aside from emulators, but 3D games are hard to look away from. Great start, I hope to see more.
thats unfortunate that you picked that file extension! The mps file format is only used (as far as i know) for videos on umd videos. They are easily made using the illegal umd tools programs that were leaked to the internet a while back. i believe you, because that would have been stupid to release illegaly made files to the world (think pretty much every piece of xbox homebrew...) and because there are no videos in the game :P
Sorry for the mixup...
hey man, great game, I was wondering if you would release your code so we can learn about it, Thanks!
this shoulda been numero uno (#1) folks
