It seems a bit outlandish to actually integrate GPS with a PSP, but it may actually prove to be brilliant. In fact, we could really use a little GPS help when it comes to finding good comrades. Yep, I'm talking about Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and how the GPS is going to do something really cool to the game.

The GPS in the PSP lets you get in touch with satellites wherever you are and it tells you where the hotspots are. When you finally get there and connect to local Wi-fi points or PSP Spots, it's possible to earn powered-up bonus characters that you can use in the Comrade system. Remember that in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, there's a hotspot hiring feature that lets you earn various levels of characters stored for various IP addresses and zones. You can then make use of the GPS feature in the console in the special Scavenger Hunt for comrades.

The GPS receiver promises to be a cool enhancement to Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Hot Shots Golf Portable. There are, ofcourse, various other uses for it that Konami has outlined at the TGS, such as in the field of education and services.

The strange thing is that we're only seeing the Japanese PSPs carrying this feature, and the GPS attachment will only be available in Japan. Whether Konami will include the feature in English-language PSPs remains a question.

The GPS on the picture is a homemade one, not the Sony one (look at the hacked serial interface).
It really sucks if they don't release the GPS outside Japan tough...
And to 3, there are hotspots in every train station, mac donalds, quick,... here in Belgium.

That's not the gps for the psp. you think that the gps system for the psp will include all those wires then have you been living under a rock. The GPS system for is a add on device that plugs into the usb connection on top of the psp like the psp camera.

 » what??!?

No GPS for America? Man, I wanted one so I could use it in my car. I also wonder if it will need a subscription cost to use the mappping feature of the GPS. If there are none, then this would be a nice and cheaper alternative to $800 GPS systems.

First off all those wires in the picture about is a homemade gps for the psp. Secondly if there is no MGS GPS for N. America then why post about it anymore. for the first time ever I am going to say, F* *K YOU SONY, for letting me down................
The only game that I've been really waiting on and wanting so bad and they go and ruin it for all of us. Stoopid arseholes give us what Japan gets. We deserve it too or maybe you want to alienate yourself for the western world.....

somebody want that?!
It's so disgusting and doesnt fit with the PSP at all.
If they could slim it down to a simple attachement then maybe, but come one Sony, you can do better than THAT!

Lol,
That was the very first GPS implementation on the PSP I did
last year, they just used it for the article.
Yes, of course, I'm hanging out to see if homebrew can
make use of the official one through Devhook.

I dont understand why Sony even released the PSP outside of Japan because it seems anything good that they are releasing ends up being a Japan only release leaving all the US and UK PSP owners wondering why we bought this peice of ***** when it seems Sony barely cares about any1 outside of Japan. They should change the name from PSP to PSPFJO (playstation PORTABLE for Japan ONLY)
