TGS 2007: Squall revealed in Final Fantasy Dissidia - Image 1

Remember when we announced that a new trailer for Final Fantasy Dissidia will be shown at the Square-Enix booth in this year's TGS? Well, it has come out and with it comes the confirmation that Squall of Final Fantasy VIII will be a playable character.

This fighting-based video game heavily draws on Final Fantasy elements and gameplay mechanics. A good example of this FF influence is character progression where you're tasked to level-up and gain more experience and skills by participating in battles and quests.

Not only that, the combat system doesn't appear to rely as much on fancy finger work like its contemporary fighting games. In the lower left corner of the screen, you will have different moves you can use based on the distance between the two opposing characters.

So far, there has been no announcement on when this game will be hitting the market. The chances of a U.S. release are pretty good since Square Enix has already registered the Dissidia trademark in North America.

I love all the Final Fantasy games, so I will surely buy this when it comes out. But I really really hope we get to see a couple characters from FF6, like Kefka or Shadow.
Perhaps they want their 'hidden' characters to actually STAY hidden for a while!!

I'd like to Sabin though. Hitting a Suplex or a Pummel would be sweet. Another possibility would be Cyan and his Swordtech abilities. ;-)
