WWEOn October 19, 2004, a lawsuit against THQ Inc. and JAKKS Pacific LLC was filed by the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in the U.S. District court. This is about the toy license with WWE and the video game license between WWE and the joint venture company operated by THQ Inc. and JAKKS Pacific Inc.

Named WWE Action, World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. claimed that both companies violated their property rights by improper sales of WWE video games in Japan and other Asian territories. Due to this, WWE is seeking termination of video game license of both companies along with monetary damages.

THQ and JAKKS Pacific denied the allegations in a press release recently, claiming that the lawsuit is "without merit" and they are planning to prove their case in court. One of the WWE video games from the joint venture is WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2006 for the PSP and PS2 consoles which was released in U.S. and Canadian territories on November 15 last year. With the lawsuit at hand, we don't know if the release of the game will be fulfilled. But we are keeping our fingers crossed that this case won't affect other WWE releases from THQ and JAKKS Pacific since so many WWE fans have been waiting for this.

I think this is great news. Maybe theyll get a better developer to do their games. Its been getting to be a regular EA thing, releasing game after game with the same thing/different roster. On top of that, dont forget the massive load times. Heres hoping Konami or Midway picks the liscence up.

Forget Konami or Midway...

Any real wrestling fan wants Asmik Ace Entertainment or the AKI Corp. to pick up the licensing on these games. Go back to the real good stuff. I hope THQ loses it. The games have sucked for far to long.

Sadly, this lawsuit was filed nearly a year ago and nothing has come of it yet.

 » Very funny.

If you seriously think this is GOOD news, than you are a stupid, misguided, ignorant fool, indeed.

THQ and Yuke's have done absoutle wonders with this licence over the long years of iterations. The gameplay and features have been tweaked to near perfection, and have become the STANDARD for all wrestling games by which all other have folloed.

THQ and Yukes have overwhelmingly proven to be the best developer.

No other untested developer could match the level of trial and error that THQ has taken 6 years to perfect.

You are a seriously misguded fool for even considering this and your opinion is both laughable and woefully irrelevant in the face of this evidence. Thanks and goodbye.

» Eugh, the WWE make me sick

I was a fan, and sure I would still love to have a go at SVR2007, but still Vince McMahon and the creative team up there are twisted. Who knew that Vince wanted to have an incest angle with Stephanie and her baby? Then he wanted to change it to Shane when she dissagreed. And also look at the Eddie Guererro thing to push a story line. The man is dead, let him rest. Waste.

» It'll Be A Shame If They Lose The Licence

I've NEVER played a wrestling game that's included quite as much content as SVR 2006. It's among my favorite games on the PSP, DESPITE the depressing load times. Since Smackdown!, the games have been on a slow and rocky road of improvement, but it looks like THQ has FINALLY gotten the formula right. I'm looking forward to SVR 2007, and beyond if 2006 was ANY indication of the caliber of game that's coming out from the WWE.
