It looks like the recent PSP-3000 rumor isn't about to die down any time soon folks, as more new pictures of this mystery unit come to light. The images were taken via the PSPChina.net message board, and show what appears to be a prototype of the unit plugged into a USB cable.

As with the previous pictures, these shots indicate that the PSP-3000 will have a slightly different PSP logo on its back, a PlayStation button where the Home button used to be, and a microphone right beside the volume controls. Outwardly, it looks almost exactly like the PSP Slim, complete with the flat back and glossy black finish.

We have posted the new PSP-3000 pictures for viewing below. Once again, we remind the readers that this is strictly a rumor, with Sony Europe keeping mum on the whole matter. Visit us again in case run into any more details regarding this topic.

i wouldnt be surprised at all of that was true

   Re: pokemaol - 2008-07-23
 » nope!

click on the 3rd going right and see some front!!!!!!!!!!!

   Re: celebv1 - 2008-07-24
 » probably

thats probably modded, its not hard to drill a hole in the front of a psp, or change the back, or even replace a button
this might be a competing company trying to slow the sell of the psp, with no new one in sight

The PS button looks a lot different in these pics and the ones in the previous news report.

That was an oval, and this is a circle.

Looks like a custom PSP case to me.

I saw these pictures on two websites after I read your posted article yesterday...

I used to come to qj for the latest news but when this was all uncovered at one time in one article on other sites, I am starting to wonder if I should look elsewhere. No, I am not saying I would leave qj because you're a little slower than the rest - but when you break up news into different articles and quite obviously don't do your own research and rely on people to submit the news, it's not journalism, it's laziness.

Not criticizing is really going to improve the website?? How can they know when they are disappointing readers if no one tells them.

The only thing that I should have done differently is not sound like a complete prick. I do apologize for the rudeness of my manor, I was out of line.

Didnt show the front.
Were unable to shoot sharp photos.
Why did they watermark them (bottom right, bbs.pspchina.net) before resizing them?
What kind of cable is connected to the PSP? Its no Mini-B USB. Looks more like a normal USB.

Be quiet. Everyone means they didn't show the FULL picture of the front. They only keep showing the lower-left of the PSP.

 » interesting...

why does it look like the screen is protruding on the left side? Moving towards the right (above the psp logo) it looks like it is sunken a little lower. Doesn't that seem more like a poorly done shell replacement?

   Re: GW2 - 2008-07-23
 » well

looks like a screen protector to me.

   Re: Twenty-Se7en - 2008-07-23
 » screen protector...

I believe you are correct, but why would a screen protector get placed on a Sony prototype (or even early production model)?

I would say it's definitely not a model that is going to be at a show or to be photographed later, if that were the case they wouldn't be laying it on a hard surface like they are.

Looks like sony gave up preventing homebrew by firmware updates. Now the PSP hardware is getting updates. It could be up to 2 weeks before the security is hacked!

   Re: Dremth - 2008-07-23
 » yea

yes but hardware doesnt stop homebrew from the vast amount of people that have first and second gen psp's.

   Re: majorbb100 - 2008-07-23
 » it will be hacked

it will be hacked in no later than a month after its released, knowing what we know now.

   Re: Networkgamer - 2008-07-23
 » Orly?

You still cant truly hack even a slim. The method still requires a previously hacked fat psp.

   Re: kittykat - 2008-07-23
 » Well, actually...

The Slim is pretty much hacked, the only thing that is missing at the moment is full 1.5 kernal support. And there are hacks and homebrew apps to get around that already.

 » pfft

wutever, thats definently not the psp 3000.. $h!t looks like a custom built one.. and that can easily be done. ive seen funkier lookin psp's out there.

plus CHINA? pfft yeah ok. btw IMO it looks uglier.

   by pokemaol - 2008-07-23
 » This is no mod!

everyone its no mod
1.How could someone get the button on like that no marks!
2.wher the hell do you get the button!

3.mabey this one will have no frimware updates no that would stink!

   Re: Apeaggedon - 2008-07-23
 » dude dude dude

i'll keep it simple... ANYONE can make a home button dude.. think,if they did it (whoever did it in the picture) then anyone can.
making double joystick nubs is no different man.
na if sony is gunna change the psp then they will do way more then just add a "home" button... its a waste of time wen everyone allready knows wut that button does anyways. psp has ben out since o4 or o5 i believe so its not like anyones new to the psp era.
and your first question is dumb.. like i said if peeps out their are putting 2 analog nubs on the psp (without marks) then im sure they can put a simple "home" button as well.

   Re: Networkgamer - 2008-07-23
 » home button

If you buy a sixaxis or dualshock 3, it will have the exact same home button.
   by pokemaol - 2008-07-23
 » home button?

wheres the *****in homebutton!

   Re: xploren - 2008-07-23
 » STFU.

Dude, it's obviously a fake. It's just a modded PSP, and they made the faceplate and everything and just threw it onto the PSP. It doesn't matter if it's a Home button or a PS button, anyone can mod their PSP. So STFU, idiot.

   Re: pokemaol - 2008-08-01
 » F OFF

buddy f off
   by roddollente - 2008-07-23
 » CAN YOU JUST STFU?!

on the first image, the ring is definitely thinner. also, when you look at the top-right corner on the back of the psp where "UMD" is supposed to be located, there is like a slot kind of thing.

on the second image, the usb port is a bit thicker (or at least the cord), so amybe ti will be a standard usb port.

on the third image, the home button is replaced by a PS button. Also, between the VOL+ and PSP logo is a hole, which is most likely the built-in mic.

as for the fourth one, the only difference is that the TV cable port icon has two dots on it (one above and one on the bottom).

and lastly, if there will be a new psp model, then don't doubt china. almost everything is made there! so if a new psp is really coming, its parts will come and be made from china. i will be surprised if it's psp canada. but china? one worker could've stolen some shots from the factory or something. who knows?

   Re: ChaosX6 - 2008-07-24

The first PSP slims were jpn but the TA-85v2 is from china

Its probably one of those "PLOP Station" that come out they are fake and have games like Tetris and "Goalie" and only that. ITS CHINA PEOPLE they got the technology to do (or fake) what ever they whant

That looks like the new developer kit we have it has no umd slot and connects to a small black pc.

   by timster7 - 2008-07-23
 » Wow

This does absolutely nothing for the rumor. Look on youtube. Anyone with a few tools can change a button out on a psp. A kid put xbox buttons on a psp, does that mean xbox made a portable? No, of course not. They won't show the front because it's fake. The slightly new appearance could easily be faked. You can build any style of psp case you want. Remember early Slim photos. They at least showed the front and firmware version. This is all just hype over nothing. I doubt Sony would put out 2 psp's in one year. Remember 10 year projected life of psp. Are they going to make a psp now that will last that long? No!!! Anyone with modding experience can do this. Hell, I could do it in maybe 1 hour with all the parts. As long as it isn't pandora proof, I'll buy it anyway, when it comes out. I don't think it will be out until maybe late 2009. I still doubt it will be like this.

   by xLinkinwormx - 2008-07-23
 » well anyone

remember sony saying there making un-pandorable psp, this could be it, with the new hardware that stops pandora, for a mic you would need a new mobo(for the connections)

   by Binary - 2008-07-23
 » one word

PHOTOSHOP

   by fungusinmymilk - 2008-07-23
» That is most certainly fake

It doesnt add up at all.

mainly, if Sony DID put a PS button instead of the old HOME button, they would have to update ALL the UMD games, software etc so they prompted you to 'press the PS button' instead of the HOME one.

it also looks exactly like the PSP 2000. they've put a mic mod on there, changed the UMD door and put that crappy PS button there.

I dont think there will be a PSP 3000 till maybe this time next year. and it will have ACTUAL features that you will actually want to upgrade for, like the internal harddrive and second analogue stick, perhaps.

   Re: Foolmonkey - 2008-07-23
 » well

they wouldn't have to go that far. they could just mention its the home button in the manual. then incorporate it into the new games. heck, it's possible that they would even still call it a home button.

   Re: treyjazz - 2008-07-25
 » huh?

I've never seen a game that has told me to hit Home for anything. Homebrew is the only thing I've ever seen it assigned for something other than checking the battery level, time while playing a game or returning to the XMB.
   by timster7 - 2008-07-23
 » Hard Drive

I don't think a hard drive is a good idea unless they keep memory sticks. I want expandable memory. A hard drive with out memory stick slot would almost be a step back. If this was anything more than just a rumor, Sony would have at least hinted at E3, but nothing. I have to agree with the guy above me. All games would be off if this was the new psp with the "PS" button. Look at this. They can make you a psp case with custom design option. There are quite a few sites out there like this and it would only take maybe $100 to get a completely custom case and then mod it.

 » Pfft...

It's only a rumour - rather than argue about whether or not its genuine (no one knows for certain apart from the photographer) lets speculate on what it could mean...

Greater integration with Home? (PSP Trophies would be cool)

Internal HD? I'm 50/50 on that idea - it's only worth it if has greater capacity than a Pro Duo stick, which for me means 16Gb plus.

And I really don't believe for a second that SOny will takea away Pro Duo support unless it's strictly for anti-piracy reasons - it's a massive cash cow for them.

I really hope we hear more soon, I could go for a third PSP, the idea of having 3 generations of one product seems quite cool - after all, Apple replace the iPod every year...

China nope. 2nd, they took no picture of the front OR the serial number.

   by timster7 - 2008-07-24
 » yeah

A PSP like the one above would be nice, but Sony spends too much time on useless things. Like the search icon. How much time did that take or how much did it cost? Besides, if they did a little research, they would know that most people already have google as their homepage on psp.
