We have been hearing a few rumors that the newly released PSP system for $199 might be coming with something more then a lower price tag. It has come to our attention that there could possibly be a

Why does Sony F*ck themselves with such "bargains"
i hope, that enough users are aware enough to buy older psp's. or if they do dont care about Homebrew...
I mean,
what harm did the GTA exploiters do to the Software companies? ISO loading wasnt possible.
But i hope, this is a Photoshopped image and no 2.61 exists. Wouldnt it also be available via software update??
Sony, if you want to set an end to homebrew, please give decent alternatives!!

well its very possible that there is a v2.61 but juding by this picture...it looks like a hoax.....cuz no psp is "orderd" to update....lets say its a 2.6...the psp itself will not tell you to update....only a game can...and as of now...i dont believe there is a 2.61 verison game out there....so this picture look soooo fake to me

For one, if there is a new firmware, sony would immediatly have it out for download on the PS site and be sending people on the mailing list notices to upgrade. ALso the fact that this picture is showing that this firmware update is supposed to be loaded from an UMD instead of pre-loaded on the system doesn't sound right ether.

Sony has NOT (and I repeat, NOT NOT NOT!) released an update on their servers yet.
I am automatically emailed within 5 minutes after Sony releases an update (both japan and US) (gotta love cron jobs, ey?).
I have not gotten an email, and the files that the PSP checks for an update both say the latest firmware was released on 11-29-2005, which would be firmware 2.6.
If it is real, I cannot say. However I very highly doubt Sony would release a new firmware without wanting people to update via Network Update.

I have a terrifying thought... I can actually edit the original PSP fonts in a way that will make it totally impossible to spot a fake. We should stop believing pictures even if they look 100% real. As a proof, I'll try making a 3.11 photo tonight. (I will stamp a huge FAKE all over it so nobody will take it for a real one... I just want you to see the perfect shadows etc.)
