Considering the enormity of the PlayStation Portable homebrew community, trying to fit everything into one Weekend Warrior article a week can be a daunting task. This is why we've decided to give it its very own offshoot special through the PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior. Considering last week's major update with the release of Custom Firmware 4.01, things are slowly winding down as we see an influx of homebrew titles gearing themselves towards the new CFW. Aside from that, we also have several returning homebrew games which recently got updated with new builds. What are you waiting for? Fire up those handhelds of yours and take your pick of the hottest homebrew releases that we've spotted during the past week. A week filled with fun games and more CFW 4.01 compatible apps With the noise finally dying down from last week's Custom Firmware 4.01 from Team M33, it's finally time to see what new homebrew apps and games have spawned from the new update. True enough, there are a couple of homebrew aimed specifically for the new CFW. Most of these homebrew titles are more utilitarian in nature, with another taking the form of a Japanese kanji converter app. In any case, if you have any of the previous builds of these apps, please make sure to update them if you have CFW 4.01 running on your handheld. Link: prxutility v4.0: Now compatible with CFW 4.01 M33 Link: AnonymousDev2's Psar Dumper remodified for PSP OFW 4.01 Link: PspKanji v2.3 - now with Mac port, support for M33 Link: CTF Manager v2.0 - now create your own 4.01 M33-compatible themes Homebrew developer homemister gave everyone a sneak preview of the upcoming version of LuaPlayerHM by releasing the version 8 drivers for the app. The main purpose of the released drivers is to give developers the chance to incorporate their own code into the various prx files. It may still take for the official release of LuaPlayerHM version 8, but we'll be sure to cover it once it goes live. Link: LuaPlayerHM Drivers for version 8 The energy saving plug-in Hold+ also got several increments over the past week, with the latest version fixing several bugs found in previous releases. Bumping the program up to version 2.4, developer Torch mentions that the plug-in can now be downloaded through the project thread found on the QJ.NET forums. Link: Hold+ v2.4 - added new bugfix What's a week of homebrew updates without fun and games. To be more specific, last week's shooters make another comeback with the latest set of updates to satisfy your FPS cravings. The latest version of the highly celebrated PSP Dungeons (1.0.6) introduces a new 3D Editor for users to easily create their own FPS obstacles courses to enjoy. The editor is compatible on both the Mac and Windows, so why don't you give a try and see if you have some potential as a game level designer. The homebrew port of Wolfenstein 3D also makes an appearance, adding several fixes to make the game run a lot smoother. Version 4.7 also does away with the various EBOOT files and loads everything from a more organized file structure. Link: PSP Dungeons: Assault Run with 3D Editor v1.0.6 Link: Wolfenstein 3D v4.7 Finally, our winners for the best potential homebrew game titles include MadMax11's Maelstrom Alpha2 and Mia's AntiTetris v1.0. While both games come from completely different genres, they both have the distinction of sporting interesting gameplay features and game concepts. Maelstrom is building itself up as a nice epic space RPG, with a vast universe for players to traverse in their spacecraft. The game still doesn't contain much in the way of content, but with the way things are going, it looks like a promising homebrew game once its final build is complete. You'll never look at Tetris the same way again after trying it with some realistic game physics thrown into the mix. Running on the Chipmunk physics engine, you'll have a heck of a time aligning all your blocks in the latest version of AntiTetris. Link: Maelstrom Alpha2- added new ships, upgrades, and systems Link: AntiTetris v1.0 - Tetris powered with Chipmunk physics More homebrew to come... All in all, it was another productive week in the homebrew scene. With everyone still getting used to the new CFW 4.01, we'll just have to see if any new updates come in regarding it in the next few weeks. As a non-spoiler, QJ.NET will have something special prepared for homebrew developers very soon. We don't want to reveal too many details, but we'll be sure to give everyone the lowdown once all the organization and legal mumbo-jumbo are sorted out. Anyway, that's it for this week's update. Don't forget to check back in with us again for the latest PSP homebrew news in next week's PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior feature. |

» why?
Why should there be a new Daedalus or PSPTube? People like you are still going to whine about it not being perfect.
If you don't see the potential in the new PSP Dungeons or see the use of the hold prx then you're both clueless and spoiled.
