"No, I didn't choke on a mince pie :)," writes StrmnNrmn in his blog. Yes, he's back in action, almost a full year of no updates. Following Kreationz' announcement yesterday about StrmnNrmn reacquainting himself with the PSP scene and joining (i.e. "helping out") the DaedalusX64 team, the man himself has made known his presence. Of course, he apologizes for the lack of updates recently. He explains that he really has "regular periods of 'radio silence' followed by bursts of activity" due to a loss in momentum somewhere. And how did he lose his momentum? Well, he doesn't want to go into details, but he says that he's been really busy with work. More interestingly, he reveals that he's actually working on a game! This time around it's because I've been really busy with work. I don't want to go into specifics, but for the past couple of years I've been working on a high profile game, and since January most of my energy has gone into helping to get it finished. He continues by explaining how Kreationz got in touch with him recently, and how he's still committed to the Daedalus project. As he says, he's pretty cool with the idea that the DaedalusX64 team is working on his emulator. The whole reason for making Daedalus open source was to give people the opportunity to learn from the source code and update it as needed, so it's great for this to be happening. More about the Daedalus project now - yes, he is making a port of it. But! Hear this from StrmnNrmn: "I'm going to keep the target platform secret for now, but I think it's very exciting." Yeah, which of course begs the question... what platform?! We missed you StrmnNrmn! Godspeed! There will be cake! Related articles:

hmm could this platform be the all powerful Pandora??

» So?
So once someone else picks up his slack and starts working on his unfinished code he swoops in and grabs the headline?
Yeah, it's great to get the base foundation back on the project but let's not take away from the fact that it was another group that picked up his slack and has run with it up until now.
Credit where credit is due.

» Actually...
I know for a fact that's not the case he started the new port before we added even our first line of code to the original. P.S. He's @ the DX64 IRC with about half of the DX64 dev team atm... it irc.freenode.net #daedalusx64

Prolly the port is for the Pandora.

When you don't know what you're talking about, it's best to shut up. Of course, if you had coded a great emulator yourself you could talk, but you didn't, so how about you STFU instead of trashtalking people who spend/spent their free time for the community ?

QJ and their stupid lame jokes...what do Portal references have to do with Strmnrmn? I wish QJ would just shut up with their lame jokes and just tell the news. It's good Strmnnrmn is working on something new, but I have a feeling the project is on a console so we'll have to have modded consoles...I don't do modded consoles thanks.

» That was a joke, haha, fat chance.
Tough crowd. It's called gaming culture. Game devs do it themselves for their games, cross-referencing other games from totally unrelated games. Does the Altair costume have anything to do with the MGS4 story? And you should see the Wikipedia entry on "Giant Enemy Crab" and look at how many games out there actually make reference to it. Though we're not game devs, as a gaming site, we're still part of the gaming culture as a whole.
About that console bit. Fair enough. I suppose your response is valid. My guess is iPhone though. From what I know, StrmnNrmn does some Daedalus compiling using the Mac OS X (hence the related article).
FYI, you don't need to have a console modded to run homebrew. PS3 runs Linux just fine (as if you can "mod" a PS3 to begin with). And the 360 has the XNA studio too. ;-)
Have a cookie. You earned it.

Ivory_Soul. Sheesh kid, there are some comments that are stupid, but like stupid-funny. Comments that are so bad you just shake your head. Unfortunately, your comment is just flat out retarded.
First off, to sound like a broken record...
If you don't want to read QJ's puns/jokes/whatever, then don't, no one is forcing you to come here. Now you Could say "I was just saying I wish they wouldn't do that." In which case all QJ has to say is, "No."
Also about this,
"but I have a feeling the project is on a console so we'll have to have modded consoles...I don't do modded consoles thanks."
Geez oh man. I will send you a thousand dollars if it actually is. My bet would either be the iPhone, or Pandora. I still have mixed feelings about Pandora but since it's open source I'm sure he could do it then with 256MB Ram and it running Linux.

» My 3 guesses:
iPhone
Wii
Pandora
Wishful thinking: XBOX 360. The XBOX 360 is an incredibly powerful platform, and if coded right we could see some really nice emulation going on here. My ultimate wish if this came true, would be to see high-resolution texture support for the N64, as well as getting the Cel and Bloom shaders ported too. Come on people, Ocarina of Time in high-definition, 4xMSAA, Celda textures, with Cel shading plugin, played on a 42" HDTV and a comfy couch, with one of the best controllers to date? YES PLEASE.
@Gino D. - PS3's Linux offerings are no where near enough to get a decent N64 emulator running on it, seen as there's literally no 3D accelerator as we can't access the RSX.

» out of this whole mess
i didn't hear of any significant changes made to dx64......i use to play this emulator but it can only go so far with slow and skip frame rate not to add no music..........it almost feels like watching a black and white tv show with no sound......

Apparently you haven't compile one of the recent SVN builds. Mario 64 is very playable with sound and only 1 or two graphical bugs are left. You can stop by the http://www.daedalusx64.com/ site and find a tutorial for compiling the latest unreleased Alphas (AKA the SVN) there. These are fully tested and stable but have had a few fairly significant improvements.
