Dissida: Final Fanasy - Image 1

Man, the game hasn't even been released in English yet and already they're talking about sequels?! Apparently, in the Ultimania guide for Dissidia: Final Fantasy, an interview with Square Enix's Tetsuya Nomura was published. In it, he reveals that plans for a Dissidia 2 were already in place, however, things sort of didn't go their way.

There are no current plans for a sequel. To be honest, I wanted to do one up until a few months ago. I even called [Mitsunori] Takahashi, the planning director, and [Ryuji] Ikeda, the lead programmer, to talk about sequel concepts -- I told them to think about what they were going to do and prepare themselves [to make a sequel]. However, circumstances inside the company wiped that idea out... to actually make [a sequel] happen would be very difficult given the situation.

It's strange to hear this bit about "circumstances inside the company." As 1Up suggests, one guess could be that the teams had to put all their efforts into getting Final Fantasy XIII released this year. Plausible? We can only assume.

Whatever the case, chin up, kid. Nomura leaves us with an optimistic note about the fate of Dissidia:

If a lot of fans ask for a Dissidia II, circumstances might change. I'd like to think about the matter again if that happens.

Hear that? That's the sound of Final Fantasy fans rushing over for an online petition.

 » Two words

Bad economy. I bet the company is playing it safe lately. Maybe once the economy completely recovers we may see it.

We need a console version.

 » sequel yeah

make something up for the story and add more characters, I was hoping to see Seifer on this one, perhaps they could add Tifa, Vincent, Zell, well most of the characters from FF7, 8, 9 and 10.

Here ya go, you got yourself a nice sequel, I still don't know why they had to take it from FF1.

"I still don't know why they had to take it from FF1."

That's because Dissidia's a game celebrating the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy. ;-)

Yeah they should add vivi and Dagger( aka Garnet) from ff9

I don't know about Dagger but Vivi should have been in this one(if he isn't already IDK). I'll laugh if they include Quina. She? probably will play like a Final Fantasy version of Kirby.

i was wondering why the hell did they omit auron, seifer and vossler, for instance?

if there will be a sequel it should have more than just two characters per each game. i'd love to see tifa's cat-fight with aeris ;)

btw, why the hell was jecht a bad guy in dissidia? my guess is that the real villain didn't get enough screen-time. (same as with ff9, when you see the real bad guy for ~5 minutes (necron))

The first game was amazing, I don't know why they wouldn't make a sequel. I feel bad for the people who are waiting for the US version lol it must suck to be them. A console version would be amazing, It would be like sonys version of smash brothers and would negate the reason i keep buying nintendo consoles.

» Of course there's room for a sequel.

Look at all the amazing characters everyone loves that they could put into the game. All they'd need to do is balance them out.

FF1. Ninja, Grand Master, Black Mage, Red Mage/Wizard.
FF2. Everyone.
FF4. Kain, Edge, Cid, Yang.
FF5. Everyone could be an alternate costume of Butz. No needing different movements, just replace character designs.
FF6. Nearly everyone. Edgar, Locke, Shadow, Cyan, Sabin, Mog, the list goes on.
FF7. Everyone.
FF8. Seifer, Zell, and Irvinie. Especially Seifer though. My favorite in the game.
FF9. Everyone but Garnet.
FF10. Everyone but Yuna. I think everyone would love to see Lulu with her breasts bouncing everywhere while running around the stage. Perfect fan service ;).

i was thinking about that the other day... they could make a counterpart game, like have Laguna or Seifer instead of Squall... Or Zack instead of Cloud... All the heroes that didn't get a place in Dissidia, of course, fighting Emperor Gestahl instead of Kefka would be quite lame :P

A Cid Brawl mode. This mode allows you to play as any Cid from all Final Fantasy games and fight the other Cids.

You remembered everyone except for...

Biggs and Wedge

   Re: kupomogli - 2009-01-31
» I was going to actually list them

I put everyone else and then was going to post. Also the many faces of Biggs and Wedge.

I'd like to actually see their FF6 version of them(both looking the same) and then their FF8 versions :P.

Cid Brawl would be really cool. Cid vs Cid. Best part: Cid would always win!
Vivi would also be great. His special move: melancholic emotional attacks ("Why am I living? What is death?"). This would mean sudden death for the opponent!

Let me get this straight...

Square Enix make a big RPG fighting game (but don't dare call it either else you'll face the wrath of fanboys?) which supposedly takes 100 hours to complete, reviews are at 83% (meaning it's not brilliant). Most people here probably either don't care about it or have even played it yet since it hasn't been translated...

Yet you want more?
Maybe I don't understand the hype behind this game enough...

Why don't you petition Square to make a decent RPG? A proper FF game but for PSP with a playable battle engine? Or at a pinch port the FFVII+ games to the system?

   Re: ~~ - 2009-02-01
 » ~~

What is your problem ?

83% is an amazing score, although lately magazines and websites have been handing out 9's and 9.5 like crazy.

Dissidia does what it says it does, its a great game, has some kinks in the battle system when playing on harder game modes, but hell, it's a great game and a sequel would be great if they iron out some kinks in the battle system to make it last longer and remove the 100lvl cap +)

so that this game can actually last you up to over 100 hours

I don't think a port of FF 7-9 to the PSP will fit the UMD without hindering the graphics or having 2 UMDs. But I agree to making a FF game for the PSP but I guess there are too many pirates for people to care about the PSP. CFW was the best thing to happen to the PSP and also became the worse.
