You sure this is out yet? You wanna use your PSP to find out? That was fast. Only a few hours after Karl wrote up on that Dutch SCEE admin dropping hints about FW 3.01, CrEec mailed us that he's found 3.01 up on Network Update already.

Sony hasn't updated their websites past DA BIG 3-OH yet, but we found this FW 3.01 update floating around available for download. And based on the info we've been able to gather up to now, 3.01's just a security patch. In other words, as far as we can confirm, nothing major's added to the 3-OH, other than another potential loophole filled up.

Download link's below for the FW update - if you're still interested in jumping up a hundredth of a notch (0.01). Otherwise, let the speculation regarding potential exploits from the last article rage on in this one. (And for a moment we thought this would be a Rumor).

Download: [FW 3.01 update]

QJ is pretty dumb, its a bug fix, not much of a security update.

This si dumb, Why do we need a ps3 for ps1 games on the psp? They just want our money!

   Re: _F1 (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22
 » That's obvious

Of course they want our money, they're not giving us PS1 emulation out of their own good will.

The real question is whether forcing us to buy a PS3 (for now) instead of allowing us to download with PSP/PC will really increase their profits.

   Re: Dr.Cube (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22

No they just don't want Xbots to get ps1 games.

obviously they want our money thats what big companies do but i go to the hackers side cuz i now some guyz can hack sony and then Gat that emu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

   Re: Nice (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22

from wut i heard the games are eboots that run on the psp and run like regular eboots. that means there probably is no emulator just an eboot file.

i hope that was a joke. im thinking there is another way to run homebrew on the psp especialy 2.80 because they sent out 2 updates that are just security updates.

   by jrfhoutx - 2006-11-21
 » ...

people who didn't upgrade yet will now upgrade to 3.01 if they use network update, cause 3.0 won't be there anymore. and anyone who updates via downloads from the official Playstation sites won't get 3.0 (at least in the U.S. cause it never made it onto the support board or download section) cause it will now be 3.01, that's who will upgrade to this, anyone who wants to upgrade but hasn't yet...

Sony America (don't know about Europe though) is kinda slow on the draw as far as posting Firmware updates on their support page. Not to mention the fact that the online download that most sites post (before it makes the U.S. site) is the japanese release, they get everything first, the U.S. release is for the 22nd (even if they came out the same day it's already the 22nd in japan, you know dateline and all ;), so it may be up in the next day or two.

and for the last time you will eventually be able to download PS1 games without the PS3, just not right now. Sony has to get the infrastructure set up, damn people can be whiny and impatient...

Good luck to our psp community's hacking elite, we all hope 3.00/3.01 will be unlocked soon for all to enjoy without giving up homebrew and ISO/CSO Emulation!!

   Re: Casua1ty (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22
» Its not as easy as that...

Dark_AleX has said that 3.00 has been encrypted very differently so it will take ages to decrypt, and he also said that an SE might not be possible because of the lack of memory in flash0.

I wouldn't expect an SE or even a devhook for 3.00/3.01 any time soon!

Yet, all firmwares are hackable... with time. There is no such "unhackable firmware"

   Re: Snarg (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22

"According to ps2dev forums there is no flash0 in the new 3.0 firmware for the PSP. Decryption is no easy option anymore since its not longer using Flash0 FAT12 table. So don't expect any new devhook soon. "

if the games for ps1 run on eboot we can probobly figure out the path they use and make a program that loads emus and eboots to the ps1 emu and run anything from that we might not even need custom fw of stuff like that

» This is a good update, Well 3.00 is.

But i really don't have the money to buy a ps3 and most of the new features in 3.00 require the ps3.

 » LOL

I really hope none of the people that already updated to 3.00 will update to 3.01. If theirs a security patch that means something has to have been wrong with the 3.00...probably making it easier to crack. Dont update any further untill the PS1 emulator is available to the public through the PSP.

This is speculation but maybe these updates are Sony's way of telling the hombrew community that exploits are there in the lower firmwares like 2.80 and 2.81, or else.... Why didn't they just go 2.82 or 2.9......... This is just me thinking outside of the (x)box tho......

 » loop hole...bug

this is good news from sony coz they had just confimed to us the 3-oh indeed has bug. more bug = more exploit = more chance of homebrew possibility = more chance of downgrade. woo hoo !

Re: your trhe loop (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22
 » nonsense

why ppl would upgrade to 3.0 to then downgrade and lose all the features?
Moron.

   Re: coolguy5678 - 2006-11-22
» Have you ever heard of "Homebrew"?

Seriously, it's hard to use this site and not know about homebrew. Someone might have updated for the features but changed his mind after realising he wants HB back. Also, 3.00 being downgradable means we can get more people into the scene which is good for the scene. Someone may also buy a PSP that comes with 2.81+, and if 3.00 is downgradable then that person can get homebrew (if devhook for 3.0 or 3.0-SE is ever released, they can still have "all the features" anyway).

first of all...... your first sentence doesnt make any sense and second..... you completely contradicted yourself with the second one......
   by DiabloTerrorGF - 2006-11-22
» You guys know why you need a PS3 right?

First, you can't do it from PC to PSP, too easily hack-able.

Second solution is downloaded directly to MG formatted MS. Easy enough but... PSP's wifi has a huge problem, any file that is bigger than around 5 megs being transfered over the net get corrupted(not anything major, but it can be bad). There are ways around this.

Another thing is people could use hacked routers or PC gateways to obtain the files being transfered to the PSP and then release them without anyone needing to pay, while this sounds good to us, it's a loss to Sony and they want to avoid this. Solution? They have to make the eboots customized on the server side to certain mac addresses(or other unique data security method) so even if someone does transfer the files, they couldn't run them on a new MS or another PSP without the unique key or mac.

 » what about australians :(

@DiabloTerrorGF

So your saying we need a PS3? Australians should of got the PS3 in Novemeber to. But NO, we got pushed back till next year. So I have to wait 4 months to get a PS3 then to get PS1 games. F**K THAT S**T! By the time it comes out here, you could probly buy the games off the PC. I dont know WTF is going on!

» we need to run legal ps1 isos

we really neey a "magic program" that could fix the ps1 Isos right analog stick problem so we could run ower private collection of ps1 isos (if u allready run a ps1 emu on yer PC)
i mean i have legal isos i backed up from disk....i want them to run with a sony offical PS1 emu....but that might never happen (PSX-P needs more developers and testers i guess)
time will tell....................mabe we need to come at this problem from another approach...............hack the F#ck out of the PS3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!then mabe we can trick the psp into think it is running a ps1 EBOOT thru a ps3????????????

   Re: Scott (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22
 » Erm... No.

If you backup a ISO or ROM from a game it is illeagal.

   Re: Wrong (Unregistered) - 2006-11-22
 » Wrong Scott..

You're allowed to backup an ISO from a game that you own, as long as it is being made from your original copy. It IS illegal however to download a rom or iso, even if you own the game. But, because you wouldn't be circumventing any kind of copy protection on a ps1 game, it is legal (as long as you don't then sell the copy :p )

That glitch has been around since 1.50, though, so that's not the problem here.
