Shallan from our forums has released an alpha version of his flash game Treasure Island Dizzy formatted for the PSP. Treasure Island Dizzy is based on the original 1987 game Dizzy, which was originally published by Codemasters. This version was made with the firmware 2.7 in mind, so this game should work with the PSP's browser on 2.7 from beginning to end.

The game map and graphics are based on the NES version of the game and solution, and contains a few (hopefully not too obvious) changes to the original. This is an alpha release, so if any bugs are found please tell Shallan in the official thread.

Known bugs/issues: (to be updated periodically):

  • Sometimes respawning after death causes problems
  • Collision is buggy to say the least
  • Preloader doesn't seem to work on PSP browser
  • There are no clue scrolls
  • On screen 68/69 instead of walking on the bottom Dizzy should drop off and die. At present restart game only option (will be fixed with respawn bug)

For beta: (to be updated periodically)

  • Replace Alpha debug( screen numbers) with location names
  • Include clue scrolls
  • Overhaul game graphics
  • Increase 'baddy' count
  • Create animations for puzzle completions
  • Optimise further so more can be added easily
  • Fix bugs reported

Shallan has hosted this on his PSP formatted website, but is on free hosting so repeated access could make the site go down. If you intend to play it regularly, we suggest you download the .swf file and put it on your memory stick. Then, to play the game, simply type in "file:/PSP/*Insert directory here*/Dizzy.swf. If you download it using your PSP's File->Save link target function, you can access it from "file:/PSP/COMMON/Dizzy.swf". Or you can just download it and play it on your PC if you wish!

 » FPS?

How's the FPS? you have to watch out, to much stuff onscreen will make it go helluvaslow.
I'll try playing it tomorow or so, but something tells me furtheron in the game it'll be a bad framerate.

but, you guys should post this big news here...

"Will star Big Boss in an action game set during the 1970s

In the most recent Hidechan Hideo Kojima mentioned some new details about the upcoming canon MGS game for PSP.

Please keep in mind that at this time these details are some very loose & hasty translations and should not be taken as 100% facts.

- This game is canon to real Metal Gear universe and is a continuation of MGS3 plotline, not a side story.

- The game is going to star Big Boss in 1970's trying to form Foxhound.

- The gameplay has been confirmed to be an action game where you play Big Boss controlling a squad of soldiers in a battlefield.

- The game will not feature an continue option, so if you die in the game you will have no continuation option (not exactly 100% clear on this bit)

- When an ally soldier dies, he is not brought back to life

- The game will be centered around the theme of death on battlefield

- You can use the "White Flag" option in the game to forfeit a battle so you will not lose all your troops. By surrendering you can end the battle without dying.

- At start of a battle you can decide to bet troops on the outcome of the battle or not (unclear if this refers to the Wi-Fi multiplayer game only or if it applies to the story mode too)

- If a player decides not to bet troops then they will not lose or gain troops based on the outcome of the battle (again not sure if this is just for the Wi-Fi section or the whole game)

- The game is going to connect to MGS4. (Not clear on it being an actual link-up to the game or a story relation)

- Planned release for fall in conjunction with 20th Anniversary of Metal Gear 1.

- The graphics are said to be PS2 MGS game level, but will have lower polygon count on the models.

- Some form of Wi-Fi battle/multiplayer gameplay has been implied

- Real voice acting is implied to be in the game (not outright confirmed)

If you are proficient in both Japanese and English, any update or correction on these translations would be very much appreciated. "

Try to right click -> save target as, or failing that just do it direct from the psp browser if you have 2.7?

 » Sad

Thank you for your efforts but this is pretty sad when compared to my Genesis, SNES, PMP, PSP Radio and everything else.

However, I agree with that other guy. I'd rather play Loco Roco over Daedalus any day, and you fanboys can live in your shell and say it's going to get better, or PSMonkeys will be full speed one day, but the truth is neither one will ever be tolerable.

 » Niiiiice.

Very good game. It's come along very nicely. There's no need to make negative comments, saying that you shouldn't have upgraded in the first place. LocoRoco is a great game, and I think that it's worth updating for. This game is very polished for a Flash game. I congratulate you for making something like this.

"now couldnt we find an exploit in the flashplayer? oh and also how come i cant download?!?!?!?! it keep direct me back to the software discription with the download button, i click on it again and it redirect me back again... what the heck?! anyone else having truble??"

Turn off your firewall and try again. I had the same problem.

 » 19 is Right

Comment 19 is correct, I have a load of flash games, so now i can play all of them on my PSP, now I have 15 flash games on my 2.7! 2.7 is the best firmware

The only flash games you can't play are the ones with too much memory, for your psp won't play them. But a hell of alot of flash works on 2.7!
