Sony PlayStation Portable - Image 1Sony PlayStation Portable homebrew developer Illegal Machine has recently released the PC Engine emulator for the Sony PSP. It's called Turbo Grafix 16 and it does more than just emulate the older game system.

For one, Illegal Machine says that "this (emulator) has the icon.pmf that shows the original Turbo-grafix TV commercial, among other things." It's compatible with the Sony PlayStation Portable Slim & Lite and firmware 1.50.

Running games on it is fairly easy. Illegal Machine tells us to "just place the extracted folder into the GAME folder and place the ROMs in the Turbo Grafx-16 folder not a folder named ROMs." Pop all of these into the same folder as EBOOT and you're good to go. Enjoy!

e[mulator] logoThe wonderful e[mulator] has been updated to v0.82e today by developer e. If you've missed this one before or are a newcomer to the homebrew scene, e[mulator] is a multi-platform emulator supporting Gameboy, PCEngine, WonderSwan, Sega Master System, Sega Game Gear, and NES.

It also currently supports Atari Lynx but e has noted that this feature is still quite buggy; although a fix added since the last version should fix it. It is also supposed to support NeoGeo Pocket, but e has pointed out in his readme that it's still very slow and doesn't have savestate support.

Here is the changelog for this version:
  • Bug fix to characters that weren't displaying correctly
  • WS : SRAM retention, state retention and operation verification being completed
  • Lynx: Operation of the Lynx part of this emulator should work correctly.
Thanks for the tip Byte!

The current changelog reads as follows:

"e" has updated his PC Engine and Wonderswan combined emulator for the PSP to v0.80 beta 4. There have been 3 other releases of the v0.80 beta and all have included small fixes as well. This is the most recent of the betas (4) and contains some small fixes and notices. From a rough translation, here are the updated features -

  • Name decision final
  • Not yet mounted functional large number (?)
  • Do not save Swan using in-game functions, use the State Saving that the emulator provides
  • Various bug fixes

?e? has released a new version of his Turbo Grafx 16 (PC Engine) emulator for the PSP, version 0.70. The Turbo Grafx 16 (PC Engine) is a very small video game console which was very fast and efficient due to the use of its three chip architecture and use of HuCards, credit card size data cartridges. Changes in this release include:

? Sprite bugfixes for F1 Circus 92 and Y?s 1&2
? Incomplete Supergrafx support
? State saving modifications:
Old data cannot be used. There's a high probability that the format will change again.

To do:
? Sound corrections
? Mounting improvement and state saving correspondence

?E? has released a new version of his PC Engine emulator for the PSP, version 0.61 Alpha 2. Changes according to the wonderful translation by lob include:"

"Thanks for all the hard work, PS.PSP" BBS

I've only been visiting PS.PSP so I feel times are changing. Maybe I'll be quitting soon, too. LOL.

- Anyway, this release is in tribute to the end of PS.PSP.
- I stopped since save state files were recognized when the menu was displayed.
- Slow games have been sped up. Games like TATSUJIN and Paranoia should be playable but games like Outrun are not, like always.
- Save data is compressed before being saved now. The size of the data is about 3 MB.
- Support for loading ZIP files has been temporarily disabled.

I received the libmad for playing MP3s a while back from maman directly. I didn't ask any questions on 2ch!

You can get it in our PSP Download section [here].
Thanks for the translation lob, much appreciated =)
