Undiluted PlatinumAccording to a friend of QJ, Undiluted Platinum (the world's first PSP modchip) could be here very soon, so its time to start thinking about placing your Pre-Orders! For those still in the dark, Undiluted Platinum was announced to a skeptical audience on May 26th, boasting features such as: bringing a bricked PSP back to life, open source development, button-press firmware selection, along with many more features.

Accompanying the good news of a near shipping date, joins the news of the soldering involved. Don't expect to install this without some work, as there will be "23-24 wires to install." If you wish to do this install yourself, be sure you have (or know someone that has) advanced soldering experience. If you're a soldering pro, expect the project to take a good 45-60 minutes. With how small the space to work inside of the PSP is, it will likely be very tricky fitting that many wires inside of such a cramped area.

Word is starting to gather about various international stores where you can purchase Undiluted Platinum, but we're glad to bring you news of the first and only North American outlet for UP, ModChipStore, will not only be shipping Undiluted Platinum from the U.S., but will be offering several professionally installed packages:

Although initial supplies may be limited, ModChipStore will be frequently restocked as the need arises. Additionally, they will begin shipping Undiluted Platinum the same day they receive their first batch. If you want to send in your PSP for a professional install and be first in line, they are already accepting shipments. While you're there, you might want to see what other PSP accessories you might need in anticipation of Undiluted Platinum - their prices for 1GB and 2GB Pro Duo memory sticks ain't too shabby, especially if they'll be shipping you Undiluted Platinum anyways!

Whatever you choose, please be aware that there is a chance of breaking your PSP in some fashion any time you open it up. Add a soldering iron, wires, and your open PSP, the chance that something could go wrong is very high. For your PSP's sake, it is best to have someone else install the Undiluted Platinum if you have limited or no soldering experience. We at QJ.net take no responsibility for any damage done to your PSP while trying to install this modchip.

And be sure to stay with QJ.NET, as we will have hot images, video, and install diagrams in the near future!

I'll see how Dev Hook developes..

I'm curious though if you can update the firmware on the mod chip just like the original
and than delete and put 1.5 on it again. =/

 » good for me

im great with soldering and the 30+ points to solder isn't that bad when you think that you can take a break when ever you want

   by InTheZone - 2006-06-09
 » HOW DOES THIS WORK????

Does this thing actually let you run one firmware that you can update and the other stays at 1.5?

What if sony somehow manages a way to disable the chip with 2.72+ firmware?

 » yay!!err...wtf!!!

How come its not sold in stores that i can just go to and BUY IT FROM!?!? Like WAL-MART!?

 » Rather expensive service.

Ugh. If a pre-modified PSP is $450, then the installation is probably $150 by itself - if I REALLY wanted this modchip, I couldn't install it myself.. so I'd have to find a MUCH cheaper installation.

 » WAIT!!

I am just going to wait for a few months until all the hype dies down, before i consider buying one.....see what sony has to say and stuff.

I hope sony won't try to block this with their latest firmware upgrades..kind of like how they prevent the 1.5 users (me) to not be able to play the latest games without upgrading the psp. ;D

» @2, Hell ya they get paid for this....

Take a look at the URL's to click on

http://www.modchipstore.com/customer/product.php?productid=16328&partner=qjdotnet

Notice the "partner=qjdotnet". Why else would they be pushing something that they have never tried before. ;)

 » QJ.NET wants your money

As if the partner links weren't enough QJ.NET even advertises totally unrelated memory sticks too (partner links of course too). QJ.NET will never get a good news source the way the act. The only care about the money.

 » I'll risk a little DIY.

I don't use my psp at all just now. Wouldn't be much of a loss if I fried it.

$450 for the pre-modded, lol... That is outrageous. Someone's making some serious money there :P

   by tch (Unregistered) - 2006-06-09
 » i bet...

that it isnt as hard to install as QJ says it is
they are obviously just trying to get us to send it to these people to install, since their getting paid for this, i mean look at how the keep on insisting that you shouldnt do it yourself

And at an additional $99 along with the $99 price of the modchip, its a TOTAL ripoff
