While the debate continues on tech blogs and forums (making the following essentially a rumor at the moment), the consensus seems to be thus: because of a change in the parts used in all PSPs that were manufactured after October 2005, the Undiluted Platinum mod chip may not be able to work its magic on newer PSPs. If the actual hardware (board) used inside of your PSP is not labeled TA-082 you will not be affected by this news. It all comes down to this: If the new PSPs (with part labels TA-082) use 1.8V powersupply and the Actel FPGA used on undiluted Platinum supports 3.3V/2.5V only, the mod chip may not work on the newer PSPs. |

Any more nice news?
So... in short, most of the people who can make use of a modchip are the ones with the older 1.5 firmware already. xD
whos going to waist there money on this Devhook is so much better and i can buy a 4gb memory card for the price they want for the mob chip and not have to open my psp! so unless they make this work on 2.5+ firmwares this is as useful as a bricked psp
why would u even want this ur probably gonna screw up ur psp just to play homebrew? waste
Thats means that alot of ppl can't use it. Millions of people got their psp's at christmas when 2.01 when in the psp.
MOD CHIP IS ABSOLUTE CRAP FOR PEOPLE WHO GOT THEIR PSPS AT CHRISTMAS (UK) im on about.
LOL a modchip that only works with the earliest PSP that came with 1.50 firmwares, how usefull !
"If you are curious about your PSP's chipset, you can check out this video which will guide you through the beginning steps of opening your PSP for examination."
LOL... I can see the faces of the adventurers that will disassemble the PSP....
"Buaaaaa....I bricked my PSP....buaaaaaaa..."
yeah opening ur psp is an adventure lol
"Imagine there's no modchip
It's easy if you try
No compatibility below us
Above 2.01+ only cry
Imagine all the people
Brick'in the PSP today...
Imagine there's no Undiluted Platinum
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to see or buy for
And no compatibility too
Imagine all the people
Crying the money that waste
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the 1.50 will be as one
Imagine PSP bricks
I wonder if you can
No need for dream or imagine
A bricked PSP man!
Imagine all the people
Saying... oh f**k the chip!
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the 1.50 will be as one"
Why can't they make the chip work on 1.8v power supply?
Those who had pre-ordered the modchip : muhahaha.
the music of that video is so annoying
because its more fun to make _assumptions_ on what the actel and circuits of something no-one has in hand to comment on, can do.
If indeed the PSPs in question have been around since October 2005, I doubt UP will have issues with them.
For all we (or ookm) knows, at this point the onboard 32M flash chip could even be 1.8V already, and onboard circuits could be doing voltage matching to 2.5V for older models of PSP
check out the modchipstore:
http://www.modchipstore.com/professional-pre-modified-sony-psp-handheld-console-mod-chip-1-282.html
they are selling pre installed UP PSP's, white ceramic, so i'm thinking those psp they are selling is most likely newer models.... huh?
5. » That Mod Chip is absolute CRAP

make something better then? or stfu.. i dont see you making anything.. these guys are puttin their work in to this, its not their fault you couldnt afford a PSP till christmas, or cant afford games to play on it..

What a piece of *****. Just buy another PSP or use devhook.
i still say its a hoax... think about it, for the price of a psp 250 this guy prolly bricked it. then desided to make a fake mod chip get people wired up about it, sell it for 100 each 1000 kids preorder it. he walks off with 100k and comes up with excuses not to reliece it. of iam ahving problems with 2.7 next thing you know he wants to wait to see if it works with 2.8 to reliec it blah blah
''So... in short, most of the people who can make use of a modchip are the ones with the older 1.5 firmware already. xD''
Y'know, it will come in handy for people that upgraded their psp like me. I have a launch PSP, with 2.6.
..And some "moron" there, attempted to flame me. But, he lacked the necessary wit to make it effective.
Anyway, I think people here should WAIT before investing money into this. There are many variables to consider when adding an extra chip to a PORTABLE device.
This is NOT a Ps2 or an Xbox. Handhelds dont generally come with cooling fans and extra pcb tenacity to accomodate 'extras'. My concerns were indeed compatibility and heat transfer and/or buildup.
The chip may work, but for how long and with what consistency over time?
I can guarantee you guys one thing:
a generic, cheaper modchip will follow in less than 3 months. MARK MY WORDS.
Ceramic PSPs were made recently, but there is still a chance they were made before Oct 2005. ($500 for a UP PSP wow!) We will find out soon enuff what the deal is either way!
I know a good deal of info on micro leds. I think that you would be able to leech the power needed for the modchip from either one of the leds that are used. Preferably the power on LED(since its continuous).
Just a thought that you might have overlooked.
That particular led needs atleast 3V to activate.(that color green)
Heya everybody,
I was wondering if this chip would work on the first version of the PSP.
I bought mine in january 2005, but it was built on august 2004, so i thought it might be too old lol.
Do you reckon it will work on my PSP ?
Thx !
To all the "tech" that produced this news.....you have more than 3,3 V on EVERY psp ever produced....the battery of a psp is 3,6 V...and the battery connector is right on the motherboard...add a diode and you have the 3,3V/2,5V you need.......
