PSONEWell, we'd like to show you the video of the Sony PS1 Emulator on the PSP. Right now, it shows the PSP running Ridge Racer, one of the first PS1 titles. And although it ran it in a letterbox format, what was interesting was that the screen size could be adjusted to fit the whole screen. And the game ran perfectly.

Also, it shows the PS1 game being directly booted from the Memory Stick. That's right, there isn't a seperate icon for the emulator in the firmware! This could mean that the games released for the PSP might be modified a little. Although it's just a speculation, I wouldn't be surprised if perhaps the textures are enhanced a bit. Plus a few things like removing support for the second analog controller and shoulder buttons.

It was announced that PS1 games could be bought online using a "Playstation Card", essentially a snazzy pre-paid card which would be sold in denominations, upwards of $50.

» So, it's seen the light of day?

Did they make any mention of when it would be launched? This summer? In the fall? I believe there was supposed to be one more update before the GPS and eye toy accessories are released. Does that mean that puts us somewhere around July?

anyway i would rather have a homebrew emulator so i can still play snes n64 game boy nes mega drive master system ect... lol

   by Juan (Unregistered) - 2006-05-10
 » ugh...

It's a PSP official emulator so no it will probably require an update to like 3.0, so yes you will still have flash.

It looks really nice, I would get it if 3 games were made for it: Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Star Ocean: the Second Story.

 » Its FAKE!

Look at the upper right corner while he's playing ridge racer, its curved! Also his fingers pressing the buttons dont match with the onscreen gameplay.... We're being tricked I tell ya!

DONT BELIEVE THE LIES!

It's all fake! Our only hope is a PS1 Emu homebrew!

we will never be able to played on other firmwares (until someone gets the key from sony),

 » but which ones?

how will Sony determine which games get converted into PSP compatible ones? I want Destruction Derby and Warhawk along with other old titles, not originals of the remakes that PSP already has (Ridge Racer)

 » why

 » About time......

Tomb Raider 1 & 2 on psp at last! It would've been nice if they'd bundled the first TR up with TR Legend that's coming soon but that's too much to ask I suppose.

 » sonys plans!!!!!

sony will make sure that you upgrade to 3.0 they'll start with some good classics then, higher the prices for the games u really want ."screwed"...i'll stick to my 1.5 all my emus with over 400 games!!!and,by the time it really looks interesting we'll se it hacked and ready to go on 1.5 "FREE!!!"..theres always a way to get sony back for overchargn' us for there electronics:)

   by celvin (Unregistered) - 2006-05-10
» Do you think we have to upgrade for this?

I'm hoping there's a work-around for this. I'll happily pay good money to play titles such as Final Fantasy Tactics on my PSP, but I refuse to upgrade it dammit!

   by R Kelly (Unregistered) - 2006-05-10
 » haha

I was joking about asking if it worked on 2.7... everytime i read the comments section atleast 15 *****s ask..does it work on 2.6?? in rapid succession and its annoying..2.7 is for douchebags and people that just got a psp..

by Anonymous Coward (Unregistered) - 2006-05-10
 » How about?

How about the games on the PS1 that required 2 joysticks or the L2 and R2 buttons? How're they going to substitute that into the game? Or are they not releasing the games that require that or somehow modifying the game to where it just needs all the controls from the PSP. Looks good though, ran very smooth.

 » Well..

I'd pay them AGAIN for a game I already own (Final Fantasy Tactics), but damned if I'll upgrade to 1.5.

Hell, there are a lot of current PSP games I'd buy, if they worked with the loader.

Don't they realize that people who steal games, will anyway... and that blocking people from playing homebrew only hurts potential sales? I'd imagine not..

   by majorcrabs (Unregistered) - 2006-05-10
 » hmmm

i hope this will kill the load time
