With the recent release of the PS1 emulator for the PSP, PSX-P, many have been wondering about the emulator's capabilities. Well, French gamer magiXien has immediately put the release to good use by trying to run a couple of PS1 games. He already showed videos of Ridge Racer and Tekken 2 running on PSX-P. This time, the PS1 game Tekken 3 has been caught on video to show that the emulator does indeed work even though it is still at a very early stage of development, v0.1 to be precise.

Though the game is still slow, it would only be a matter of time before the emulator's creator, Yoshihiro, works out the kinks in the program, thus bringing the emulator to full speed.

Looks great! I'm sure future releases of this app will be fantastic! Does anyone know how the emulator addresses the dual analog issue?

i dont think he's gonna figure out the emulators errors and mis-haps quite as quick as it sounds, the N64 emulator created by daedalus has taken months and months to get that far...

....and psOne is even more powerful so i reckon in about 2months we may have 7fps on ridge racer or perhaps 9 max,it depends i suppose... :S

@4 The Psx is less powerfull than N64

32 bit vs 64 bit

This emulator, written by Yoshihiro is a port pf PCSX which is maintained under the GPL license.

This means the 'author' of any port or derivative of this program must release it's source and acknowledge the original authors of the project.

Neither is satisified, thus this emulator is breaking the GPL license.

A plain as day example from EBOOT.PBP:

written by:
main coder: linuzappz
co-coders: shadow
co-coders: PacManFan for the PSP port
ex-coders: Nocomp, Pete Bernett, nik3d
[...]
Pcsx found that you wanna use a COFF file. COFF files not supported
etc etc etc etc etc...the plain as day stuff continues.

Yoshihiro most certainly ported PCSX, but he in on way wrote the entire emulator.

Not to mention the suspected writing to the flash the emulator does, disbling devhook .46's 2.71 capability.

Code theft, undisclosed flash writing, all this hype, you think Yoshihiro wrote it all from scratch too the way PSPU has been talking about it!

this is typical Yoshihiro. All the glory with none of the skill and effort.

come ON you guys at qj must know by now that yoshizero didnt right this emu, maybe he changed the menus around a bit but it says right in the config file PSPONE.

This emu is right where pacmanfan had left off, 4-5 FPS max with no dynamic recomp

Well the emulator is slow because it is an unoptimized port of a PC emulator. Once Dark_Alex completes his dynamic recompiler core for it, the speed will increase. Also Yoshiro should release the source code to the emulator so that other developers can possibly improve on it. Thats how this scene has gotten so big, collaboration.

@5: Yes, the N64 is more powerful (and runs at 3x the clock speed for starters) but the NEC VR4300 CPU used in the N64 is actually 32-bit (although based on a 64-bit MIPS CPU) and games run 32-bit code.

That goes down in rediculous statment history! :D

I want to meet this person and smoke whatever they're smoking...It takes me a whole weekend of drinking to get life that confused!

So what's the current framerate on tekken 3? 5 fps?

 » you guys,...

You guys are idiots, Nintendo 64 is more powerful and can run at 64 bit, why do you think its called Nintendo 64! Wow it has 64 in the name, it wasn't just randomly put there.

And the emulator looks great, I don't see any graphix errors like the purple shaded rendered graphix, which is great to know as the nintendo 64 has alot of that.

» I wonder how this compares to Sony's version

I would rather use a homebrew PS1 emulator than Sony's so maybe this one will be just as good eventually. Who knows how much $ony will charge for games, and a required firmware update is a given. This video looks much like the early Daedalus framerates so it's great for a first release.

 » Yoshihiro...

Clearly most people that are on pspupdates here are new to the scene.

I will never, ever, trust yoshihiro again. And wouldn't want to give him ANY credit, whatsoever.

One day or another it'll come out he stole the code or something, just like EVERY project he has worked on.

He can't code, I'm not saying I can. But damn it he thinks he can, and gets all the *****ing credit.

He should be *****ing hanged.

As for the emulator, it'll never come farther than this, and yoshihiro will get some more paypal donations for the emulator, and then silently fade from the public sight.

Damn you, yoshihiro!

In my opinion this is a pre-alpha release. I would suggest that this should be called Proof of concept or something like that.

he's gotta get a new screenguard! the bubbles on it look horrible!

 » this is great but

obviously the sony one will be a lot better . I'm all for this emulator but I dont see it reaching a great speed never mind full speed before the official one hits . and.. the dual analog thing is going to be tricky to implement and sony is workign on that rigt now...so.. as soon as they release it hopefully we can emulate the new firmware and have the official sony emulator.

   by What? (Unregistered) - 2006-09-25
» What the heck? Proof of Concept??

Mervin.....do you KNOW what a Proof of Concept IS?

This emulator is WAY passed that stage. Proof of concept would have been some of those screens PSMonkey had of his N64 Emu barely emulating lines of DEMO'S!

This one is actually loading commercial roms already (though not full speed, but it's doing it!)

 » This is Illegal

This emulator, is under the GPL licens,
and that means it is illegal until Yoshihiro release the source-code!!!

yes, that is some nasty bubbles. He needs to learn how to apply it correctly. Use a credit card to push them out WHILE you are applying. (not after)

who gives a fck if its illegal or not?

and theres no way this will ever run full speed, its just a *****ty port

 » PSX

Why don't we just extract the PSX Emulator from the firmware 3.00 and convert it to PSX-P Emulator for the 1.50 and TIFF for firmwares 2.00 through 2.80. I like how Kaz Harai adjust the screen size and say, "Its Wiidge Racer!" Did I say Wii? LoL!!! Anyway, as far as the creator of PSX-P will try to make it to full-speed, I hope this will come out early before firmware 3.00. For the PSX Emulator, its gonna cost $5 per title game, so once everyone got all the games from the PSP Online Content then we'll try to get this for $0.00! For the PS3, I was thinking about the PSP to output the UMD Game on TV via WiFi on PS3 Console. Forget about the PSP2TV, its too bulky and heavy. I hope all the Creator/Developer will come and join the PSP/PS3 Community. Well, I love my PSP, PSX, PS2 as well as NES, SNES, N64, GB, Gen, GG, DSL & X360. I'm still waiting for the PS3 & Wii to come out at launch. But first I'm getting the PS3 because of limited to ship at launch. So I guess, PSP-X will get into Full Speed and I can't wait to play the original Gran Turismo, since PSP doesn't have or release the G.T. For the PS3, HD Gran Turismo is sick & the gaming is like in real-time! Cheer! :)
