Just a day after dropping "Universal" from its name, Vivendi Games is back in the headlines as it reveals its E3 games lineup. Vivendi is prepping up the debut of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon at next month's big trade show. While Crash Bandicoot will be exclusive to Nintendo DS, Spyro will breath fire on the Xbox, PS2, Gamecube, DS, and Game Boy Advance. Sorry folks, no PS3 and Revolution for now.

The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning is a recap of the purple dragon's origin story. It will include flying levels as well as stronger focus on combat. Krome Studios will develop the game for the console and GBA versions, while the DS edition will be handled by Amaze Entertainment.

Bandicoot will debut on the DS with Crash Boom Bang! It features 40 mini games, wireless multiplayer, and a communication system that allows players conspire against each other midgame. This is Bandicoot's entry to the party-game genre. Players will also be able to bet on the outcome of the matches, earning points that can be traded in for 80 different  game-altering items.

But wait, the Vivendi lineup doesn't stop there.  Other games that will be feted at the Vivendi booth are as follows:

  • PSP version of 50 Cent: Bulletproof
  • Scarface
  • Eragon
  • PSP game based on the upcoming Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx film Miami Vice
  • PC: World in Conflict, Caeser IV, Joint Task Force, Freestyle Street Basketball.
Rounding out the lineup is Vivendi's newest acquisition for the PC and Xbox 360, Timeshift, a First-Person Shooter game that gives players the gift of time manipulation.

PSP sales in Japan are like this: hardware is good, software is horrible.

In most of Europe? DS is beating PSP.

And in March's NPD sales, which just came out, DS had two games in the top 25. They both sold over 100k (the first 15 games did). PSP had one title at #25.

1 PS2 KINGDOM HEARTS II Square Enix
2 360 T. CLANCYS GHOST RECON: ADVANCED WARFIGHTER Ubi Soft
3 360 ELDER SCROLLS IV: OBLIVION Take 2 Interactive
4 PS2 BLACK Electronic Arts
5 360 ELDER SCROLLS IV:OBLIVION CE Take 2 Interactive
6 360 FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 3 Electronic Arts
7 PS2 MLB '06: THE SHOW Sony
8 PS2 FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 3 Electronic Arts
9 XBX BLACK Electronic Arts
10 PS2 THE GODFATHER: THE GAME Electronic Arts
11 GCN SONIC RIDERS Sega
12 PS2 GUITAR HERO BUNDLE Red Octane
13 360 BURNOUT REVENGE Electronic Arts
14 NDS METROID PRIME: HUNTERS Nintendo
15 NDS SUPER PRINCESS PEACH Nintendo
16 360 THE OUTFIT THQ
17 360 CALL OF DUTY 2 Activision
18 XBX THE GODFATHER: THE GAME Electronic Arts
19 XBX FIGHT NIGHT ROUND 3 Electronic Arts
20 360 BLAZING ANGELS: SQUADRONS OF WWII Ubi Soft
21 PS2 24: THE GAME Take 2 Interactive
22 PS2 GOD OF WAR Sony
23 360 COLLEGE HOOPS 2K6 Take 2 Interactive
24 PS2 ONIMUSHA: DAWN OF DREAMS Capcom
25 PSP MLB '06: THE SHOW Sony

And that is by $$$. Keep in mind those two DS games are $35. PSP games are usually no less than $40.

Now here is the top 20 in terms of units sold:

1 Kingdom Hearts II PS2 Square Enix
2 Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter Xbox3 60 Ubisoft
3 Black PS2 Electronic Arts
4 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Xbox 360 2K Games
5 MLB '06: The Show PS2 SCEA
6 Fight Night Round 3 PS2 Electronic Arts
7 Black Xbox Electronic Arts
8 The Godfather PS2 Electronic Arts
9 Fight Night Round 3 Xbox 360 Electronic Arts
10 God of War PS2 SCEA
11 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Xbox 360 2K Games
12 Metroid Prime: Hunters DS Nintendo
13 Sonic Riders GC Sega
14 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas PS2 Rockstar Games
15 Super Princess Peach DS Nintendo
16 The Godfather Xbox Electronic Arts
17 Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence PS2 Konami
18 Fight Night Round 3 Xbox Electronic Arts
19 Gran Turismo 4 PS2 SCEA
20 24: The Game PS2 2K Games

Of course I dunno 21-25, so MLB The Show for PSP could still be there. (It's probably 26-29 though.)

And now the March hardware sales numbers:

NDS 184K
PSP 186K
GBA 201K

Here is February's (no GBA numbers available):

DS = 150,000
PSP = 170,000

PSP went up by 16k in March. Here's the problem though.. it had way more noteworthy releases than DS in March:

Me & My Katamari
Untold Legends 2
Metal Gear Acid 2
Daxter
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Mega Man Powered Up
Persuit Force (late Feb)

Not a SINGLE one of them were in the top 25 for $$$ and they all cost $40 I believe (except Mega Man).

PLUS, the "price drop" happened where you could get PSP for $200. If PSP couldn't break away from DS in March, I'm sorry to say, it never will. ESPECIALLY with the DS Lite coming out in May. I'm fairly sure DS will be outselling PSP for the rest of the year at -least- thanks to the Lite.

 » Incorrect.

Wait... This isn't "Crash's first entry into the party game genre", there was another one for the PS1 with three or four different mini-games that had quite a few different variations for up to four people. There was no platforming in that game at all.

» The game that your thinking of is...

Crash Bash. And it indeed is Crashes first, and currently only foray into the world of Mario Party knock off. Actually wasn't too bad and the games were more complex. But few too.

And #1, your an absolute retard. The PSP games were already previously covered and their names even LINK to the pages they were covered on! Now if the links didn't just take people to a forbidden page they might actually be useful.

 » Pro Duo

its cause the psp is used to watch and listen to music more like a Ipod then a video game system. Sony makes alot of money on Pro Duo Cards.

 » NOT PSP NEWS REALLY

WTF CRASH AND SPYRO ARE SONY EXCLUSIVE.

I demand only PS2, PSP, and PS3 titles from them. Or else I'll have to get out my ninja mask and cut off some executives' balls.

 » why?

why did that gimp post all those stupid numbers?

number 3 go away, you're not wanted.

it does seem bleak for psp, this article reads like this:
'all these good games aren't coming out for psp, there are a couple of ***** ones which are mind you'

» Nice post about sales in Europe and Japan,

Nice post about sales in Europe and Japan, but what about here in the states, or does that list reflect that? The PSP/DS race is ALOT closer in the US.

Here's a question for you, do any PSP owners find it a little hard to find teh games that are 'just out' for the PSP? I usually end up finding them about a week after they're out in the big box retailers and the day of their release in teh smaller stores.

Maybe distribution is having an effect on sales? I know if I wasn't bound and determined to find Daxter and Worms: Open Warfare that first week they were out I would have given up. I had to go to three stores just to find them the day after they were out!

» Here's my vote to stomp that ***** down

Really, what the hell is the point of telling us about which games we are missing out on...I might add that Halo 3 and Final Fantasy 12 also arent on going to be on the PSP, is that a snub?

Crash hasn't been exclusive to Sony for some time, so get over it. As for the DS and its success, some people like to touch, but touch too much. Give me a PSP and EMU city...we need a functioning GBA emu, not news on what we dont have

No, Naughty Dog wanted to split from Universal but they had to give up the Crash series in order to do so.

» Crash Used to be a legend

Who remembers the old days of the original Crash Trilogy, When Naughty Dog made them, they were great games, and they were exclusive to Sony Consoles, Ever Since Naughty Dog left, Universal has just been giving the rights to anyone who generally want to milk the name for all it can :(

 » Crash Bandicoot 1 back in... 1996?

Ahh....memories.... I remember playing Crash 1 back in 1996 when the PS1 was just released. It was the first (and only) original game that I bought for my PS1 :P
It was very original back then and introduced us to some very cool innovative gameplay elements made possible by the 3d worlds and camera movement. (Jungle Rollers, Boulder Dash, Hog Wild, Road To Nowhere... anyone?)

... Damn, those were the fun times...

 » Yeah

Shame the PS2 version of crash was never as good at the PS1 ones. Good times.
