Okay, homebrew fans, here's something that could potentially be a big hit with people who want to run more and more homebrew under the latest firmware.

A new custom firmware, 3.71 VE, for the Sony PlayStation Portable is reportedly in the works by the Void Team. The biggest thing about custom firmware 3.71 VE is that it will supposedly include a 1.50 kernel. It will also reportedly include a special recovery feature and support for unofficial themes.

3.71 VE is still a work in progress, and there seems to be no ETA for now. You can check out the images below for a quick look at it, though. Hopefully these guys will find a way to finish this custom firmware. keep checking back here for more updates.

Thanks to Kaze for the tip!

 » Another one huh?

Well, I've never been one to discourage a good project. Keep it up Void Team, I look forward to the results. :)

10% chance that when m33 quits, this team'll take its place. We'll all be like "oh noes! Dark alex is retiring again - again - again - again" After which void team will be like, "Suckas! We was Dark Alex all along! But we're quitting after the next release..." LOL.

However, by then, dark alex will have a daughter (dark_alexa), who will work anonymously, and will one day reveal her true identity :D

Wow, so epic. heh heh.

Watch them wait to release it until 3.71 m33's 1.50 kernel patch comes out.

 » don't start!

people would talk crap about M33 when they first started and it resulted to be DAX. I doubt this is another DAX in disguise but, let's give them a chance! :D

 » "new" dev team, eh?

So I guess it is just a "coincidence" that this is announced less than a week after the release of 3.71 M33 (Dark_Alex)? Something is fishy here...We have already been though this before haven't we? ;-)

   by Chef1 - 2007-09-27
 » Hm...

I'll believe it when I see it. I doubt they'll release it before DAX(M33) does so no one is going to use theirs. Unless they put some really awesome features on it.

 » fake

Oh yeah, by the way, how come the screen shots provided are different sizes? Shoudn't they be the same size?

 » o rly?

anyone could spoof those images easily with a renamer app.
i used to run "v6.66" back in the day.

instead of just the version info they should try something specific to 3.71... (like an custom xmb menu running showing they can code in the first place)

dont get too excited and dont say im jinxing it im just pointing out the obvious.

(my guess is they're trying to make the illusion of competition in order to influence m33 to hasten their next release promising the exact same features. hmmm?)

just stop with the damn copy cat firmwares.

 » definitely fake (for Slim)

Dark_Alex himself has said repeatedly on the maxconsole forums that the Slim can never run 1.5. If this is for the phat, it's unnecessary, as DAX is also releasing his own 1.5 module for 3.71m33 soon.

   Re: GaveUpTomorrow - 2007-09-27
 » Just like...

how the TA-82 was supposed to be 1.5 proof, but the developers sure found a way. I bet one way or another, the 1.5 firmware can been run to some degree...its just up to the developers to find a way around Sony's fixes/firmware/hardware changes.

   Re: PSPZorZ - 2007-09-28
 » d

DAX is not a retard, so I can conclude that he never said that. 1.5 can obviously be run on Slim, it just hasn't been done yet (will it ever be done? who knows, but it's possible dumbass) Yeah not sure where exactly you read that from but it's false, also do you just simply believe everything you read idiot?

 » Thats just aswome!

It can Be Dax or it can be Another People! The important here is that if he is hiddinng fine so sony can't know anything and become cofuse! Launching new FW like crazy! But the work its done when its done! The important is that the CFW development still growing more and more and don't cease never! Well Team Void Keep your work UPDATED! And release that CFW when its ready to be realease. No like other CFW around here that have bugs and problems, and even are not well develop! Thanks!

   by alien2275 - 2007-09-27
 » hmmmm

i belive that this is probobly just a spoof or something else it's kinda something to think about cuz' the title of the cfw's by dark_alex change everytime there is something majorly different in the firmware it's self all the 2.xx fw's were se and when 3.00 came out which had the psx emulator we got oe after something was changed in the firmware that delt with themes i belive after 3.30 we got 3.40 m33 and now with a major change in kernal's were getting ve ........hmmmmmmm

 » 3.71 VE

Can't wait for this to come out. I'm done with M33 firmware for now. And besides, Dark_AleX said that 3.71 M33 would be the second last custom firmware he will make. 3.71 VE will not need you to install a 1.50 plugin, it supposedly adds a special feature in recovery and it may take use of Sony's Official Theme System. Meaning anyone scared of flashing a theme to their flash can just save the theme on their memory stick.

   Re: pepinux - 2007-09-28
 » bull*****

1.5 can't run on a slim with or without that plugin... this is fake... as usual... Why do always this kind of lamers show the same screenshots? System info, custom themes... you remenber Team AOP, don't you? I bet this team will never release this firmware before DA drops his plugin... these are the kind of people DA is fed up with
   by Binary - 2007-09-27
 » wtf

why you guys all in love with this custom firmware? seems useless since Dark_Alex is WORKING ON 1.5 subset for M33 3.71.

So this EV thing is not going to make it next the Dark_AleX

you have no idea how a firmware works. If you know anything about computers then compare it to the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) The Slim has new HARDWARE. the 1.5 kernel wasn't made to run that hardware. That's why the 3.60 pandora doesn't show anything on the screen (because the 1.5 kernel CAN'T DRIVE THE LCD SCREEN IN A SLIM) when you install it.

The only way to get 1.5 kernel stuff running on a slim is to write a hella_top_priority .prx that acts like a dynarec module (taking all instructions from homebrew and passing the instructions, while translating them, to the 3.xx kernel)

Sure in the world of computers anything is possible but as you can see, this will add some (or a lot?) of overhead to all of the 1.50 programs. Soooo... the ones that don't run at full speed, or are barely making it, will more than likely take a pretty big hit because of the 'overhead'. And on top of that hit, I don't think anyone has figured out how to use the MediaEngine part of the slim yet (which is what helped out a lot with snes emulation).

think 1.5 will run natively on a slim? Heh... flash an alienware laptop BIOS update onto your home computer (unless you're on an alienware... just substitute something else) and let me know how that turns out ;)

 » 1.5 kernel on Slim

Okay, I'm reading these comments and people are saying that's the 1.5 kernel is impossible for the Slim. Yes that is true but does the article say the 1.5 kernel will be for the Slim? It just says the 1.5 kernel will be working. It doesn't say it's for the Slim.
